I personally don't know much about the theme but I'd recommend it to someone looking for a unique and entertaining experience. The concept of a wizard speakeasy is so cool!! I've been here twice and it's just so mysterious and fun. I've been inside their secret room before too and it was just a lot of fun. They do karaoke so my friends and I def took advantage of that. I have yet to try their drinks but they are pretty expensive. I think ice cream was like $11 or something like that when I went last year (not 100% sure tho). They also offer a wizard test to get into the secret room which after a bunch of failed attempts, they took pity on us and allowed to pass anyway lol. I saw this on TikTok and I just had to come here. It's situated in a cute little plaza with plentiful parking. You have to walk upstairs to get in. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with popping meme music and environment decorated with love. It's a mix of DnD and Harry Potter. Some decorations can even move! The staffs were all so kind and welcoming with awesome costumes. Their drinks are so fun and interactive. Slight warning is that their drinks are more on the sweeter side and this place is more of an experience than a professional tea store so don't expect the tea to taste like the best tea in the world. They also have a secret side that you can only unlock with a wand incantation. Please bring your friends and family here! It's just so much fun! If you're a fan of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, or anything related to those, this is a must-visit. Elixir Tea Bar is located in Costa Mesa along a small strip right off the 55. To get here, find the Purple Haze Smoke Shop and then go up the stairs to the right. When you walk in you are transported to a different world compared to the busy freeway that you saw just minutes beforehand. We ordered the prophecy ($11) and the labyrinth ($12). Yes, they are on the expensive side for boba but this place is for the experience. On their own, the drinks were actually pretty good and I particularly liked the labyrinth. They have memberships for $100/year that include some benefits such as private events and discounts. It's a cool place to bring kids as they can experience the wizardry without the booze. read more

Elixir is a place everybody should visit at least once. I've seen lots of pictures on social media and have been meaning to come here for quite a while. We found ourselves in Costa Mesa on a Sunday afternoon and made it a point to visit since they open at 1pm on the weekend. Definitely do your research ahead of time to know where to go because there are no visible signs of where it is on the outside. Look for the Purple Haze Smoke Shop sign, enter through the front door, turn right and go up the stairs. Once you get to the top of the stairs, turn left and you will see the front door of Elixir. Its semi-hidden nature gives it a speakeasy sort of feel. We arrived a little before 5pm on a Sunday afternoon. There is a red velvet rope and a horned demon creature eyeing you at the front door. You can get a little peek inside through the glass window on the front door. There was no line and we only waited a few minutes before a host came out and invited us inside. It was pretty full inside and we took the only available spot which was two comfy high back chairs with a table in between near the bookcase. You are immediately wowed by the environment as you are immersed in medieval times with a lot of great scenery and knick knacks everywhere. Even the ceiling has a lot of little greenish blue lights, green octopus tentacles, and stormy clouds. We were given menus within five minutes and there are nine tea drinks and thirteen flavors of ice cream available to order. It took quite a while before the server came back to take our order and it took about another 20 minutes for our two drinks to arrive. I ordered the Labryinth which is a jasmine green tea latte with honey boba and "magical crystals". When the tea maker brought the drinks out, he apologized that they were almost out of boba and there were maybe five to eight boba max in the drink. It wasn't really anything special for $12, especially with hardly any boba. My girlfriend ordered the Cirenity which is passion fruit guava, strawberry hibiscus lemonade with honey aloe vera and "magic crystals". It was an ok drink but there was no aloe vera in it at all and a little pricey at $13. I was tempted to try the Dragons Breath drink which sounded interesting but service was kind of slow and I wasn't sure how long we would have to wait for another round so I just asked for the check. We walked around the whole space on the way out to get a little better look at all of the interesting stuff inside. There is some bar seating, several booths, some two seater tables against the wall and two chess tables in the middle. There is also a merchandise area towards the front at the end of the bar. They have an annual membership which gives you access to a VIP area which is entered through a hidden door in the bookshelf. I'm not sure what the perks are to the membership. I don't know what I was expecting the environment to be like, but there were a quite a few kids and families sitting near us which made it feel more like a Disneyland vibe than an adult speakeasy vibe. There is definitely a lot of cool stuff to look at and it was fun to check out once but I don't think either of us feel like we need to go back. read more

Wow - this was an awesome place to hang out. My friend and I saw this on a feed and wanted to check it out as it has all the cool stuff we liked - magic, potions, ice cream, hidden rooms - and was open late so we could go after dinner. It did not disappoint. The eclectic decor all came together in a wonderful theme and there were so many pop culture references everywhere. We enjoyed looking at the decoration and seeing how many we recognized - there was quite a bit! We both ordered ice cream (delicious!) and a milk tea. Our consensus was that the ice cream was wonderful and while the milk tea was pretty to look at - it wasn't anything memorable. Overall, I think the menu could be expanded a bit more to include late night snacks and/or more variety in drinks. But, as the owner (?) stated - this was NOT a boba shop, but rather a magic shop that happens to sell ice cream and boba drinks. So, the menu might be limited for that reason. We arrived later in the evening, so didn't get to explore as much as we wanted to. However, we were let into the secret room and toured that space for a bit. Honestly, this place has such a cool concept and is well-decorated. The drinks are awesome and have cool concepts, especially the Prophecy which has a smoke bubble on top. I also love that you can change the sugar level to either 50% or 0% and the 0% honestly tastes perfect. The staff are friendly and really good with children. They wear fun costumes and have elf ears, adding to the vibes. Only downside is that when we went, they appeared understaffed or the table system was poorly managed. There were 2 servers for 6 tables, which sounds reasonable, but with the "Wizard Experience" that requires 5-10 minutes per table to explain and conduct, service became quite slow. We got there at 7 PM and there were a couple empty tables, but we weren't seated or talked to for a good 10 minutes as the staff seemed to scramble to seat us. We had wanted to do the Wizard Experience as well, but it took too long (waited 45+ minutes) so we opted for just the drinks. Definitely still a cool experience but perhaps having more staff members or not coming on an event night (at least I think it was?) would have helped. Also wish we could have seen the back room or done a flight of options without having to pay $100 and become a member since we were visiting not from the LA area. The entrance is hidden away near the vape shop, it's upstairs on the second floor! My boyfriend had found this place on yelp, and we were in the area, decided to check it out. What a great decision, we had so much fun! Food: good boba drinks and icecream, nothing too special about the flavors, sweetness was just right. But the presentation was so neat and cool. Felt like I was actually transported to the wizarding world. The plastic spoon even changed color based on temperature! If you sign up for the wizard bubble test, they give you a cool wand (I got Luna Lovegood's wand), make you do fun different things like reciting stuff and poses, then have you catch a bubble to bring down to your drink. If you succeed, then they give a cool sticker, which is now placed on my water bottle haha Price: about $11-13 for drinks and $10 for icecream, which are very reasonable prices, the wizard bubble test was $5 extra Ambiance: best bar ambiance that I have ever stepped into! Omg wow this place was full of fun decorations that all screamed fantasy land, all the props were so cool, the lighting was fantastic. Even the servers and workers were dressed in costumes. Great, now that that's cleared up, let's actually talk shop. Everyone knows a good elixir is the solution to all ailments and you'll find something for yourself for elf, dwarf, wizard, warrior, or goblin alike. While this tea bar doesn't serve alcohol (will they ever? Who knows), they serve teas and ice cream (and maybe more if you're a member of their society). The price is way more than a standard tea or ice cream shop (think $10-15 per item) but you're mostly paying for the ambiance and experience. I will say I enjoyed the ice cream more than the tea. However, if you're looking to prove your worth as a wizard for a mere $5/person, then this just might be your chance. Fail, and forever know that you're nothing more than a muggle. Succeed, and bring home a small something that may enchant your life, who knows. I'll have you know, my gf and I are naturals. No pressure. I had Elixir bookmarked because I love boba and don't really drink alcohol, so it was a perfect combo for me! We came for a belated birthday celebration with some friends. We found our way to the second floor to Elixir, and had about a 20-minute wait before being let in since we were a larger group of 5. The interior is not that big but is very decorated, with a cool atmosphere. There is a secret room behind a bookcase for VIP members ($100/year annual fee). Service was excellent and friendly with all servers in costume and fantasy names. The staff were extremely patient with us as it took several hours for the last person in our party to arrive. There were chess pieces to borrow to play chess on the chess board built-in to the table; just leave a photo ID (e.g. driver license) as deposit. The menu is small with a page of boba drinks and a page of ice cream. There is a secret menu with more items for VIP members, but as I am not VIP I am not sure what is on it. Prices are not cheap (~$12-14 per drink) but the drinks are very cool-looking and tasted great. The Prophecy comes with a free refill and the smoke bubble was cool. The napkins are stored in a box like a book, and they even have color-changing spoons for the ice cream. Even the ice water was served in crystal-shaped plastic glasses and dyed to multiple colors! This is definitely a full immersion experience! Four of us added the Wizard Test for $5 extra per person, and although more just a novelty it was fun using the wands and saying the spell, then trying to catch the bubbles and put them into our drinks. All in all, a unique and magical experience, kid-friendly up until 9PM, and open during the daytime Saturdays and Sundays only. read more

Second visit in a month, and still EPIC! It's my daughter's birthday, and she wanted to bring her friends. For an 11 year old, this really hit the spot. For us grown folk, it hit the spot too, without feeling like I'm at a children's party. Always a bonus for us! Since it's a "first come, first served" situation, you may need to be prepared to wait a little. On a Friday night, our wait was less than 15 minutes for 8 people! It's the parking that took us a bit to figure out. We were greeted and seated by the wonderful Ladybug once again, and she was ever so pleasant. Grateful for her warm welcome. AURELIA was such a rock star, walking 6 kids through their Wizard Test with ease. Truly, she made their night, and probably convinced a few kids to bring their parents back too. She served each of us with such an enthusiasm for her job that it was infectious. Highly recommend asking to be served by with of the two ladies who helped us tonight! It's so great to see the owner mingling with the crowd, and joining in all the fun too. He told me that they are adding a "Dragon Stew" and "Dragon Jerky" to their offerings as well, so we're all looking forward to enjoying that on our next visit. The drinks were really bad and pretty expensive. The interior is pretty cool but it's kind of a haphazard collection of anything that could be deemed as fantasy. The wizard test was silly and overpriced and you just get a sticker when you pass. When we came, we arrived about 6pm. They closed at 8pm so we had plenty of time but I guess they were having an event that night which was a paid event and they didn't tell us about it when we arrived so we were sat and ordered drinks and almost immediately rushed. Also, staff was busy setting up for the event and literally removing furniture around us so we were mostly ignored. My friend wanted oat milk in her drink and they said it would take some extra time (which they didn't mention the event coming up and the time crunch) so we said that was fine. 30 minutes later, they are trying to shoo us out and my friend still hasn't gotten her drink. You step into a land of fantasy, with servers dressed as elves and decor from varies pop culture movies/ tv shows (Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings, anime, etc). There's many secrets to discover, even a hidden doorway! Finding the location can be a bit tricky; you enter the front of the smoke shop (don't go in the actual smoke shop) and go up the stairs to the right. Follow the path and you will see lights and hear enchanting music. It will lure you inside... The tea drinks are really good. And the service is FANTASTIC. The staff really go above and beyond to create a fun adventure! The wizard test is tons of fun. But they have other fun games to do as well. I love how the staff stay in character the whole time. This is a cute concept, but I don't see myself going again unless someone really wanted to check it out. First off, thankfully I checked out some reviews beforehand and warned my friends that this is located inside the Purple Haze smoke shop, and up the stairs that are immediately inside to the right. My friends and I were pretty excited to check it out, and the inside was really cute and magically themed and decked out. We sat and eventually the five of us were all there. The drinks are cute but I'm not sure about $13 and up cute for a non alcoholic drink. No food options available other than ice cream options for $10. I caved and ordered some. You get a nice amount, but still, that is your only food option. I ended up ordering the Cirenity drink and the Princess Buttercup ice cream. I did enjoy both, but again, maybe not for the price. I guess you are also paying for the ambiance. My friends were feeling about the same as I did. Cute, but a bit overhyped and no "WOW" factor. I felt that this was more appealing for kids, and there were a lot of kids who did show up after we did. If you're feeling really saucy, you can become a member and purchase yourself an Elixir Wizard Medallion Membership for a whopping $100 a year. What does an annual membership entail at $100? Surely a lot. You get access to VIP rooms, weekly specials, cosplay parties & free monthly events, exclusive wizard menu (and still pay for that I assume), bring one guest, 10% off merch, up to 50% off drinks to go, a limited edition Ceraph medallion, and birthday party/private room rentals, plus a treasure trove of games. I did see a private room open up with people going in it a few times. I don't see how the price warrants this, especially if you are still paying for most if not all of these perks once you claim them. Service was nice. I almost never say this, but it was a little too nice. I have been complaining about lack of or poor service these days, but they were the polar opposite here. They were very, very happy and came by very, very frequently. While I appreciate good service for a change, it was hard for any of us to hold a conversation because we were constantly being interrupted by various staff members and I sometimes felt like I fell into a realm of fairy tale land. I could tell at the end that they were wanting us to go so that the next group would come in. Also the psychic was hanging out in here passing out her card and even coming by and interrupting our conversation more than once because she forgot she already stopped by. It's a popular spot, friends and I came on a Saturday an hour after they opened and we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table but we didn't mind. Mock-tails, boba milk teas, and ice cream are served here, no actual food. The drinks are themed as magical potions and for $5 you can do the wand test. It's fun and very interactive. Appreciate how we are greeted with a "Welcome Travelers" and how the menu full of wizard world themed drinks was explained to us. We enjoyed the black tea bubble tea with floating bubble on top however wished we asked for it 50% less sweet because it was waaaaay too sweet and likewise with the Thai iced lavender bubble tea. Wish there was more plenty of room seating and more accessibility here for wheelchair and cane user friends. Adored the grimoire filled library of books and dragon egg treasure chests all around. This has got to be one of the most unique tea house I have ever been to. If you are into witches, wizard and elves then this is a must. Elixir is over the top with their decoration. Even their drinks are presented with creativity and is on theme. It is definitely quite the kick it spot. They have games and activities for you to play. They even have a behind the bookshelf room that you can request. I came here with one other person to hang out and were were impressed. We were not expecting anything and were pleasantly surprised. We both got their only non- caffeinated drink which turned out to be really good. You can add boba to any drink if you like. It was a little too sweet for me but it was still enjoyable. The drink prices are a little high compared to other tea houses but you are paying for the experience. We paid $30 for two large drinks. The tea house is hidden. It is the same entrance as the smoke shop but up the stairs near the door. Once you go up the stairs it is pass the psychic spot and you find your self in a different world. You are paying for the experience when you come here. You have to go up the stairs on the right from the smoke shop entrance to find it so it's a bit secluded. We were seated at the bar which we had no problem with. There was an additional wait time on this Saturday afternoon to sit at a table and we didn't have a preference for it. The decor inside was beautiful and had a really nice ambiance We ordered the Illusion (jasmine tea), Merakai (thai tea), and the Oracle (matcha green tea latte). Our waiter came by just a few minutes after we ordered to introduce himself but he only came back around twenty minutes later to take our order. Then, making the drinks took another half hour. One of the waiters mentioned that the Oracle took additional time to make because they wanted to make it fresh. The drinks itself were good but incredibly pricy considering how small they were. Buying a normal sized boba drink is probably double the size of the drinks here. We were disappointed by that considering the drinks were over $10. It was not worth the price at all. We were there for a good 2 hours and in that time, about another 10-13 parties came in, but no one had to wait so I think it's safe to say that the initial wave of craziness has died down. The decor is beautiful, extremely thoughtful and detailed. The staff are friendly, committed to character, and all dressed in costume. The wizard kindly showed us the medallion member's room and it was equally as detailed and a delightful mix of Harry Potter and other beloved fandoms. As noted in previous reviews, come with low expectations of the boba drinks and you'll be set. They were not good. Luckily they do allow for sweetness adjustments: 0%, 50%, or 100% are the options. My only wish is that the boba flight and wizard test wand experience were purchasable outside of having a medallion membership. *Correction: have since learned it's possible to do the wizard test for $5. The decor was super cool. This was on our bucket list for a long time and we drove over an hour to get here. My favorite part was playing a game of chess. The service was terrible and the staff aren't accommodating whatsoever. They were unable to provide the Wizard Bubble Test for us, even though we asked for it when we sat down and reminded our waitress again after she brought our drinks. We saw them provide this for people next to us who arrived later. Our waitress told us rather accusingly we should have ordered it when we sat down (we did), and that 5 people were ahead of us. **March 2025: Saturday Afternoon Visit** My friend and I recently finished a Harry Potter Movie marathon so we were excited to learn about this magical tea bar in Costa Mesa. We came after enjoying a lunch down the street and honestly walked passed it a couple of times unknowingly. It's tucked away and you'll see a "Purple Haze" shop sign. You'll need to take the staircase up and there's a sign that'll direct you to the tea bar. The decor is magical to say the least and I absolutely loved the ambiance. It has so much character and it's really a fantastic place to nerd out with your geeky friends. The pricing for the noms and sips are definitely premium but you're obviously paying for the ambiance. I ordered the Oracle $14 which was a matcha green tea latte and boba. Unfortunately, that was quite disappointing as it tasted really watery. My friend ordered the Lo Pan's Magic (Lychee Con Leche $10) and that was delicious. I will certainly order that again on my next visit (which there definitely will be!). Service is very VERY friendly. They check up on you often to a point where it was sometimes annoying since we were always in mid-conversations, but that's better than no service. One thing to note about this tea bar is that it's located above the smoke bar (Purple Haze) and during the later part of my visit to the tea bar I'm sure someone was lighting up at that shop (not in the Elixir Bar - that I could see), but the odors definitely seeped in. I'm pretty sensitive to smells and the MJ aroma was really heavy and unfortunately, gave me a massive headache. I had to leave. I don't think Elixir Tea Bar has any control over it's neighbor, but it's something to note if you have sensory issues. read more

So sorry in advance for this negative review, but this was probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had somewhere. Definitely not worth the wait, price, experience, and drinks. First off, we waited over 2 hours to get seated. And when you do get seated, sometimes you share a table with others, which I wouldn't have minded if they just wiped down our table for us. Also keep in the, they have NO food here, just a menu with 10 drinks... and the wait is still that long. The service was TERRIBLE. Having worked in the restaurant industry for years, I do not approve of their service. The workers avoided eye contact every time so we couldn't even flag them down to take our orders. If we raised our hands to get their attention, they still purposely avoided us. It took 40 minutes to finally order 2 drinks and another hour to finally get them. This was supposed to be a cool speakeasy concept but the drinks weren't even good or aesthetic. And they were super expensive. Not worth it. read more

Finding the location of this bar was a journey, let alone the journey I would take later. The restaurant was decorated with interactive fantasy designs and decorations that no other place has except for Universal Studios. It gave the vibe of a bar, but this bar serves tea; not alcohol. The price for the drips are a bit steep here compared to other places, but it comes with a show when served; either a smoke bubble bomb or a spray of glitter. The owners were also nice enough to show us other hidden rooms and told us that they will be expanding using mysterious pathways. So I will be excited for that. Illusion (5/5): This is an oolong milk tea with boba, caramel, and blue syrup. It was pretty good and came with a smoke bubble bomb. Definitely enjoyed my experience here and can't wait for the expansion. read more

went here for the unique theme and magical decor! place did not disappoint, looks exactly like the pictures and videos. very pretty very cool. all the servers were so enthusiastic and kind and into their roles. very nerdy/geeky and it's so cool! AND really good drinks! all the drinks we got merakai, draven, and amulet (which was the drink you get with your wizard test) tasted great! i actually dont order coffee in boba places bc they often dont taste good but theirs did. i do wish there were more food items and games though. there are very few food options and i didnt see board or card games (might be mistaken) so it was just mainly a boba tea place. also introverts: slight caution! theyre very friendly and enthusiastic and i didnt know i needed to be loud for the wizard test so i didnt have to go out of my comfort zone. read more

We decided to check out Elixir Wizard Academy, Boba Tea Bar & Enchanted Ice Cream after seeing it trending online -- the whimsical theme and fantasy concept seemed fun and unique. Unfortunately, the reality didn't match the hype. We arrived to find a massive line wrapped around the building. We expected a wait, but it ended up taking over 2.5 hours just to get through the door. The place was clearly overwhelmed and understaffed. There were maybe two or three employees trying to manage a full house of guests, orders, and a very busy drink station. Once we finally got inside, we were seated quickly -- which gave us hope. But it all went downhill from there. We waited over 25 minutes before anyone took our order. Then, our drinks took another 40+ minutes to arrive. During this time, the owner (or possibly the lead bartender) was attempting to put on a kind of performance with smoke, lights, and "magical" drink presentations. While it was visually fun, it felt like the priority was more on entertaining the room than actually getting drinks out. It added major delays, and didn't feel worth it once the drinks came. As for the drinks themselves -- they were fine, but not remotely worth the wait. The flavors were average, the presentation was nice, but nothing that justified the extended delay or the premium pricing. We skipped the ice cream entirely due to how long everything was taking. Even paying the bill was a slow process. From arrival to leaving, we spent nearly 5 hours at a place that sells boba and desserts. It was exhausting, not magical. The ambiance is charming and the concept has potential, but unless they dramatically improve their operations and staffing, I can't recommend this place -- especially not on a weekend. What should've been a quick, fun outing turned into a frustrating time sink. read more

Really cool ambiance!! Decorations everywhere, staff are dressed up and drinks are themed. There is a hidden door to another area as well. It gets a little crowded with the small amount of room but the staff contain it well. Very friendly people and there are some activities. Only thing I would say is the drinks aren't the best, a little underwhelming. I heard the ice cream is very good! For the price you are getting a great experience overall so would still recommend. read more

Came on a Friday and there was no wait. Was expecting more of a Harry Potter vibe, but it was more like fairyland meets medieval times ship wreck. I felt like the theme was very all over the place with random stuff everywhere not cohesively going together including what was playing on the TVs. The drinks were very mid for the price. The food coloring in there kind of helped picture wise. Labyrinth 3/5: Tasted like your average jasmine green tea boba you can get at a boba shop. Dragons breath 3/5: Tasted like lemonade. It is the only non caffeinated boba drink here. read more

This is how you find the place: Head to the entrance of the smoke shop and turn right. Head up the stairs and at the end you'll see the entrance of Elixir! Had the best experience ever here! This is a speakeasy boba spot with a fantasy theme. You can definitely tell the owners put in a lot of thought and care into the decorations! It's like you entered another magical world. Their boba drinks are a bit pricey as they average from $10-14. The boba ball texture was perfectly chewy and drinks presentation were 5/5! Although price is a bit steep, the experience made it 100% worth it! Service was amazing, super friendly and our group even got a tour of their members only room where a medallion ($100) is needed. They're in the works of turning this VIP room into an escape room and within that room, it leads to another room that potentially will be axe throwing! Super cool concept!! Come check this place out! Super cool experience! There's most likely a wait time but it's worth it experiencing at least once. read more
