We were worried as it was late to start speech therapy as a teen, but it's never too late it turns out. Luckily we found Springboard Speech Therapy. It didn't take long for our son to show improvement, and he showed more confidence speaking up at school and is now even in the debate club which requires fast and clear talking. She was very highly recommended by our special ed, advocate for her experience working with autistic children. For my child, Kai's strength has been her work on social communication and language usage. For example, Kai is teaching my child how to make longer complex sentences, how to sequence and organize his thoughts, and how to make age-appropriate descriptions. Kai has successfully worked with my child on pronunciation too - my child has learned how to say certain forms of  "l", "r" and "th" that he could not do before. Kai also discusses with my child why learning these different parts of speech and language are essential. She listens to my child and fosters a back and forth dialogue. At the beginning of the pandemic, Kai seamlessly pivoted to virtual learning over Zoom. My kid showed all kinds of signs of selective mutism…read moreat age 3 and we went through a series of assessments and appointments with professionals including our pediatrician, social worker, public school special Ed program, early intervention, psychologist, another speech therapist, etc. Nobody else could provide us the answer that we needed until we met Randi. It's apparent from the very first phone interview that she understood all of our struggles, and when she finally met our child, she was able to get her to talk and answer questions within the first 10min. It was the first time my daughter ever talked to a stranger since she could speak. My daughter started talking at school within a couple months of treatment and by the end of the school year, she could talk freely in all social situations including school. Ever since my daughter was 3 years old, we have been trying to get her to chew with her mouth closed, not realizing she didn't have the adequate muscles to do it. Right from the first phone call with Ellen, I could tell she knew what she was doing, and she takes the time to talk and explain everything. You never feel rushed with her at all. My daughter's bite is perfect now, she can chew with her lips together, and her tongue won't push on her teeth anymore, so now that her braces are off her teeth will stay straight. We drove from Shrewsbury to Brookline for our appointments with Ellen, and I would only drive that far and deal with the rush hour traffic getting home because I thought the therapy my daughter got from Ellen Role was top notch. Ellen Role had been my son's tongue and speech therapist for almost three years. My son was…read morediagnosed with an incorrect resting posture of the tongue, tongue thrusting during swallowing and speech, and with speech articulation errors. It was obvious right from the start that E.Role understands what she is doing. After a thorough evaluation of my son's tongue habits she assigned specific tongue exercises to change wrong habits. She checked the results periodically and adjusted the exercises immediately if the expected changes would not show. She would always discuss the exercises with me and my son together and make sure that we both understood how to do them correctly and their purpose. The therapy was a commitment for my son. But Ellen Role is not just an excellent therapist. She pairs her professional skills with a wonderful ability to motivate. She also has such a positive personality that we always left her office in good spirits. And I honestly can say I don't think there are many therapist out there who would have been able to keep my son committed over the period of time that was needed for him like she did.
