Located in the silos in the town of St. Jacob's, around the corner from the EcoCafe, Conestoga River Pottery has a lot to offer anyone walking through the door. Every shelf is filled with unique peices and collections for purchase. Its inspirational and quite lovely to bear witness to such beauty and creativity. I walked in and took my time in looking around. Found this gorgeous travel mug, a heart ornament and a small magnet made from another local artist of the landscape from BC. Where I had just visited months earlier. The young lady working was friendly. I called before going to ensure they would be open. She was talkative and upbeat. Definitely chipper compared to the other person there. Not too sure if the older gentleman was the potter/artist. He didnt seem very friendly, unfortunately. Perhaps my expectations are too high these days for people to offer a little bit more warmth. Especially with respect to this current, temporary pandemic. I understand everyone has their own ways of coping and we are all individually processing the changing times in whatever ways we can manage. When business owners are not personable, it makes me not want to be supportive. That's how I think as a patron and that's my bottom line. The mug I got is pretty awesome. It has a corked top. I encouraged some friends to visit, hopefully they'll follow through on that. And they'll have some good interactions with the shop owner.

Coming from Toronto, I'm spoiled with a spectacular shopping scene and the whole idea of a small town with a few chain stores kept looping around in my head. But I love my sister, and I'm not one to turn down shopping, so I obliged. King Street actually has a few neat shops, but my favourite by far was Andie's. A small, independently owned boutique, Andie's is a haven of girly dresses. Some are slightly business, some more casual and some for fancy parties...all in all they have a great selection and carry a variety of brands. If I had to describe the overall style I would say it's classy, but definitely fun. Andie's also has shirts, pants, skirts, and jewellery (although the dresses are the main focus). Decor of the store is gorgeous! Beautiful accent wall at the back, with patterned wallpaper...I'm not sure what the print is called, but I want it for my house now. Change rooms also have that boutique feel, and make you feel like a socialite. Service here is fantastic too! The sales girls are friendly, but not pushy; they're helpful, but they give you space. They also know their stuff when it comes to fashion, and it genuinely seems that they love what they do. I mentioned to my sis that one of the girls seemed particularly helpful, and she whispered to me "oh, that's Andie." That's right, the owner of the store works out on the floor and sees that everything runs smoothly. And that just gives me the warm fuzzies. Prices are a little high, but in this case you're getting every penny's worth in quality and style. My overall rating? Andie's -- it's worth the drive to Kitchener.

I will most certainly be back, once I finish these 4 projects I just picked up... Wowsers! Note: I am giving Len's a 4 out of 5 stars only because they don't offer upscale yarns (such as alpaca or qiviut), and because it is a warehouse. Mind you, when I expressed my pleasant surprise at what I found there to one of the clerks, she indicated that this was only a small portion of the yarns they do offer. If I ever go back and see the natural fibers I so love to knit with (over and above the sheep's wool, that is), I will most certainly post an update here. I went to Hatashita for an engagement ring and subsequently, for wedding bands. While the…read moreexperience of picking up a ring was very pleasant, with the wedding bands we had the opposite: a bad, full of questions and comments experience. I wanted to do a custom ring for my wife. And after I saw a lot of jewellers (including the places in the mall) I ended my search with Hatashita. The diamonds they showed me were very nice and affordable. The custom ring that I designed for the diamond came out exquisite. I have to mention that throughout my meetings with them I haven't met the owner, Joni Hatashita. When I did meet her, it was for the wedding bands. And because my wife's wedding band had to be customized to fit the ring I gave her, she had to design the wedding band accordingly. It ended up costing us 3 times as much to just add a different shape than the round one. My wife didn't want diamonds all over the band, but only in 2 places. They put diamonds all over so when it was time to pick up the bands, hers had to stay behind for adjustments. Of course they didn't adjust the price, Joni said that they added the diamonds by mistake so the price that we paid in the beginning was the correct one. I doubt a jeweller would add more diamonds when the request isn't there, but we didn't argue too much. When we finally got the wedding band, one of the diamonds appeared darker than the rest; the engagement ring (which we left with them so that the band and the ring can be "glued" together) had a crack in the gold beneath the diamond; the area where the diamonds were put "by mistake" was not polished (we could still see the holes where the diamonds used to be). Joni argued that the diamond is darker because light falls in an angle on it (even though the corresponding diamonds on the other side are fine); the crack she had nothing to say about and she polished the surface nicely. The problem was that no matter how much we told her that we are not pleased, she wouldn't even apologize. She even argued to every point we made to change our mind. We are not impressed with her efforts to make us happy even though we dropped a lot of money in her lap. At one point we even told her "we're not looking for flaws, but we want to leave happy with the rings that we are going to wear forever" and her answer to that was "that's fine". Not to mention that we made appointments with her and even though we had to wait 45 minutes in the store for her to be available, she didn't apologize once or even seem that she noticed us. Bottom line, they have very nice jewellery if you buy from their display cases. If you need to make adjustments, be prepared to pay a few times the value of the item. And be prepared to be in a small fight with Joni if you don't like the final product. And be prepared to feel that they are doing you a favour by buying from them.

My father purchased my mothers engagement ring from Hatashita in 1983, and had it updated with a larger diamond a few years ago. Both of my brothers purchased their wives engagement rings at Hatashita as well. So when my time came to get engaged, there was no question as to where my fiance and I were going to purchase my ring. I had in mind the exact design I wanted, but I was afraid I was going to be to picky on what I wanted and wasn't sure it would work. I didn't want to sound like a princess either! The staff at Hatashita was extremely knowledgeable and listened to what I had to say. They made my design ideas come to life! My fiance was especially impressed, he had visited a few other stores in town before he decided to include me in the process, which I am so happy he did! The whole process was stress free and my fiance was pleased on how quick the ring was made. When I received the ring a couple weeks ago I was so happy it brought me to tears, it is more beautiful than I could have imagined!!! We will definitely be life long customers of Hatashita Diamond Centre! Thank You!!!
