The case took 6 years to finish and almost all of the delay was because Sokoloff Lawyers did nothing with my case. I first met Wendy and her dogs after my accident. She told me all kinds of things she was going to do to help me and it was all empty promises. To begin with, i signed up with her and after a few months I had a different lawyer on my case. My lawyer seemed to change every few months and so did the clerks working on my case. i must have had 4 different lawyers and 3 different clerks in 5.5 years and each time it seemed like nobody knew what was going on with my case. I am not even sure who were lawyers and who weren't. When I saw nothing was happening, I demanded to speak to Wendy. She didn't even know my case or me. She mixed me up and kept calling me a different Mohammad. How can my lawyer of 5.5 years not know my name? She didn't know anything about the my injuries or how my accident happened. She said I was at a light but I was at a stop sign. Worst lawyer ever. My new lawyer settled my case and now Wendy wants all of her fees for doing nothing. She is greedy and mean. I retained him for a child-protection matter and trusted him with very serious evidence. He refused to use critical evidence, missed important deadlines, and allowed the opposing side to take the lead on a case that was straightforward and supported by police, CAS, school, and medical records. When I questioned the bill, things got worse. He billed 35.2 hours of "emails and communication", even though he routinely didn't read or understand the information I sent him. His own retainer agreement discourages email use, yet he tried to charge thousands for it. The numbers made no sense, and there was no record of my retainer being applied. When I asked for the trust ledger (which every lawyer is required to provide), he refused. Instead of explaining the bill, he issued an even larger one. He then told the opposing lawyer that I was self-represented before new counsel was on the record, which caused unnecessary issues in an already sensitive case. After reviewing everything, I discovered I had actually overpaid by $3,985.35, and he refused to refund it. Because of all of this, I had no choice but to file a complaint with the Law Society of Ontario. This was not a professional experience. Watch the billing carefully, get all trust-accounting records in writing, and don't assume anything is being done properly behind the scenes.

Since I have the right to justice, and the right to access to justice, which are both guaranteed by the charter of human rights as outlined in the constitution of Canada (1982), I "feel" that his refusal to hear me out before refusing to help me, is a violation of that right. The law society allows half an hour of free consultation in order to discuss your problem with the lawyer, and my half hour was used up entirely by arguing with him about whether he will even listen to my problem or not. Yet since the constitution guarantees access to justice, and equal access to justice, it rather suggests that when necessary any lawyer is obligated to go beyond that half hour when necessary in order to fulfill that right to access to justice. Failure to do is a clear and direct violation of that right to access to justice.

I had asked if there was any benefit in creating a second type of shares. I was told there was no benefit or need. After incorporating, my accountant had advised me other wise.
