Dr Mizani is a miracle. When my therapist insisted I change psychiatrists from my last one to Mizani, I was reluctant because I thought "all psychiatrists kinda suck, I might as well deal with the one I have because it doesn't get much better." I have dealt with quite a few psychiatrists in my time, including at treatment centers; and all but her have supported this idea I had that psychiatrists have no emotional intelligence, but just a purely clinical view of the human brain and don't view patients as people to listen to but subjects to examine and push drugs on, always thinking they know better and saying insensitive things to invalidate my real struggles. But not her. She LISTENS. God, I have never met a psychiatrist who listens and really LISTENS like her. She cares what you have to say and takes everything you say seriously and into account before all of her carefully thought out decisions. She makes me feel seen, respected, taken seriously, cared for, and listened to. That's a rare find. And she really knows what she's talking about; her knowledge of psych and medication is very impressive beyond expectations. As soon as I started seeing her, she was able to immediately help what was wrong with my meds and change things around to the right mix. She always lays out multiple options (some containing adding meds, but always presenting alternatives and respecting any apprehension to meds), and takes the time to listen and weigh things out to whatever you feel is best for yourself. She helped refer me to mental health treatment in August when my depression was at its worst, and though the treatment was incredible, the psychiatrist there just couldn't compare. It reminded me of how lucky I am to have Dr Mizani, the best of the best. I have depression, anxiety, and a past of an eating disorder and she has been nothing but helpful and wise. These problems are big in my life but she has kept them under control like no other, and when they get less manageable, she finds the right solutions (like when she strongly encouraged me to go to treatment and provided those resources). Finding mental health professionals who know how to handle eating disorders and don't say totally triggering and incorrect things about them is surprisingly difficult, but she is one of the few who knows what she's doing and doesn't say triggering things. If you're struggling with your mental health and like me have fear around psychiatrists and their lack of emotional intelligence, please give Dr Mizani a try. She's different. She's gold. read more

I was referred Dr. Mizani when I was pregnant, dealing with anxiety and let's face it, I exhausted talking to my girlfriends about my issues and marriage. I would say I am a type A personality and I like things under my control. Pregnancy, however, turned my emotions on its head. Thanks to a surge of hormones, everything made me highly irritable and aggravated. I knew, or hoped, that it was just the pregnancy. I decided to seek help because I wanted my pregnancy to go smoothly. Dr. Mizani was the perfect person to hear me out. She heard me out and used her expertise to see patterns in my actions and offered me ways to approach concerns I had differently. She got mad with me, when I was mad, and she validated me just enough that it opened the gates to tell her more of what I was dealing with. She was able to discuss sensitive issues about my marriage that didn't make me feel embarrassed. She is highly professional and very experienced with working with personal matters and intimate matters of the heart and soul. I am so glad I was able to have her be my doctor . She is so well read, researched and up to date in her therapeutic approach. I have since referred two other friends to her who are also equally satisfied and comfortable with Dr. Mizani. read more

I have been with Dr. Mizani going on two years. She is the most amazing psychiatrist I have ever seen. She is everything I look for in a doctor, and has alwayssss had the best interest for my life. I've struggled on and on with bouncing around to different psychiatrist. I felt like most of the doctors I saw just wanted to put me on different meds, and call it a day. I really struggle with trust, and was unable to open up to them. I felt like I was just another file on their desk, and that they knew nothing about me. Dr. Mizani is not one of those doctors. She really got to know me, and for once I felt like I wasn't just a name on a file. She is incredibly professional, yet I feel like I am talking to an actual person and not a text book. Which is something that I really like and am grateful for. I do not know how she does it, but she has always been there for me in my worst. & when I do not know whats best for me, I do know I can trust her and believe that whatever she says or does is right even if I don't like it. This doctor is a total incompetent moron. I made the unfortunate mistake to come across her website desperate for help after a closed head injury I received in a bus accident . This woman paraded me thru a series of psych meds that only made my anxiety condition worse . I suffered heavily while being constantly switched onto different medications and was told I was dillusional and had no reality based thinking when I told her that I was having bad side effects from the medicines . I was a difficult case because my head injury caused panic disorder but this doctor refused to understand how the meds were effecting me and persisted in trying to place me on heavier medications . I'm very grateful I left this doctor after 6 months of her incompetent evaluations and found another psychiatrist who promptly took me off meds and recognized that they were only adding to the problem . Today I am a year med free and tho I still suffer from some symptoms of post concussion syndrome I am a world of a difference healthier then I was under the treatment of this woman. Yes this doctor is caring and compassionate and does go the extra mile w personal phone calls and emails but at the same time she will be quick to label you as psychotic or a hypochondriac if you are not responding well to her suggested treatments . I was referred to Dr. Mizani by my primary physician and did not expect to find such a smart, caring, and thorough doctor who listened to all of my concerns and placed me on the right medication I needed. Pill pusher; I was experiencing symptoms that interfered with my quality of life that were a direct correlation to the drugs I was on. I would state my symptoms, and a couple of times she would increase the dose of the medication that was making me exhausted. I never thought I'd be put on so many psychiatric drugs at one time. Each drug we take has an OPTIMAL dose, people metabolize drugs differently, and multiple medications at one time can interact with one anther- I felt that she failed to acknowledge this or even consider it... she would just prescribe, prescribe, prescribe- increasing two drugs proportionately that inhibited the others effectiveness... didn't make sense to me. Another opinion of mine is that she has a ginormous ego- confidently claiming to deliver the absolute the best care in the field when she has under 6 years of experience in her profession. Other doctors I researched when I was looking to leave her had much more humble and realistic statements to market themselves. It is a warning of her style. She made me feel completely disrespected and she's extremely smug and condescending. I felt like she was just trying to discover things that were wrong with me". I was being considered and diagnosed disorders and when I asked her questions about them, or to explain further- I wouldn't get anything. She just threw a bunch of labels in the air and that's damaging for someones psyche who is looking for guidance and trust. I'm so happy I left this doctor. I have friends who have gone to her too (in the recovery community-refered to her under the same sober care provider) and they report they have also been overmedicated under her care, and that since they left her and did things in a way that made sense to them- they have claimed to be doing much better. I followed that lead, and MY life is so much better OUT of her care. I switched to a psych with a much better bedside manner, who makes me feel HEARD. I feel healthy in my body and mind with the adjustments that were made. I am a person willing to put in the work to change my life- I believe in taking care of the body, mind, and soul cohesively and I have programs (the right meds, fitness, spiritual, and habit-wise) in order to do that. Anyways, I've been with my new psych 9 months and things are going well. Thank got Mizani is out of my life. Every mind is different and every mind is delicate. I am in utter shock that anyone could ever give Dr Mizani anything other than 5 stars and great reviews. We were referred to her for my daughter who in addition to having ADD and anxiety was struggling with depression. Dr Mizani was the first person who spent huge amounts of time with not only my daughter but with me as well. She treated this as a family issue which it was. She was right on target therapeutically and carefully and slowly introduce the proper meds when needed. Six months later when dealing with my severely depressed husband ( what a year) he needed a new psychiatrist. His previous doctor had him so over medicated that UCLA thought he had dementia! Reluctantly my husband agreed to see Dr Mizani just once, to pacify me. His previous doctor would spend only 15 mins with him, all the while just writing new Rx and not really listening or much interested in what he was feeling. Dr Mizani spent almost an hour and a half with him on the first visit and my husband was shocked. He had never had such a caring, sincere, intuitive experience. He ha now been seeing her for almost 2 years and is doing extremely well, although he does have to take meds. I come from a family with a medical background and give Dr Mizani the highest recommendation. The reviewer who said otherwise should be discounted. Go for a consult and you will see for yourself.
