    Chicken fried steak

Traditional American diner, portion is huge. I ordered chicken fried steak, ended up can only finish half of it.

Crispy chicken sandwich. The food here is going downhill.

Gave this restaurant a second try once again I am disappointed. The crispy chicken sandwich is a frozen thin patty which cost over $18. This is unbelievable. I will never go to this restaurant ever again. I can't say anything about the service because I did not sit down in the restaurant. I did order this to go. Additionally the cornbread is horrible. I used to love the cornbread. It was so delicious and yummy. Now it tastes like flan very gross.

Mushy onion rings and Gianni burger missing grilled onions and meager skimp of product yuck
    Chris M.

Just ordered 2 of their Gianni burgers to go. Waited inside and picked up the moment the food came up. The burger was supposed to come w chipotle grilled onions. There were none. One tiny sprig of lettuce. The butt cut of a tomato. Onion rings cold and mushy, like they sat in water mushy. Disgusting lunch. Tried to call just now, no answer 2pm on a Monday. Eff this place. $40 and I threw on a $2 tip would like to get that back

Half Half a Big Belgian Waffle

I'm not sure if this is a sign of the times or what. But at Elli's Great American Restaurant you have the distinct privilege of paying almost 20 dollars for half a Belgian waffle. I don't know what they do with the other half, but it's definitely not on my plate. Service and everything else was great.

Chicken Fried Steak with three eggs over medium and hash browns and sourdough bread.

Oh yeah. Artery clogging comfort food. This was on a Sunday for brunch. Our service was in the bar area and it was getting busy after 11 am. As far as I could they there was only one person hosting the whole bar area. But noticed more assistance towards Noon. I ordered up the Chicken fried steak with eggs, hash browns and sourdough bread. It was definitely a hearty meal and need a nap or a long walk afterwards. I ordered coffee and I feel like it was an French Roast or something similar and not the usually Farmer Brothers stuff. Recommendation is to get there by 10 am for Sunday brunch. I will back to see what the rest of the menu is like.

Food was decent, waitress service was good, atmosphere was okay. However bad manager refused to comply with California's tax regulations.

Growers has a good setup--the bar is very lively and full, but it's not the first thing you see when you walk in, as it's off to the side. We had a nice booth, complete with real flower in a glass, and were served promptly by a pleasant lady. She helped me choose my entree, and was attentive and accommodating throughout our meal. I had the chicken Marsala, which is the best I've ever had (and I often order it in restaurants.). My husband had the bone-in pork chop. We had crème brûlée for dessert. Everything was tasty and very well prepared. The restaurant has a very pleasant feel, with lots of dark wood and nice furniture. If I lived nearby I'd come often.

Also, my friend said this spot is known for their prime rib. I'll have to make it in one day to try for myself.

We ordered avocado toast, French toast, banana pecan pancake, house potatoes, and an Aperol spritzer. My avocado toast was served on a single very thick piece of bread, which had a very generous amount of avocado smash and was topped off with this delightful and fresh arugula salad. I added an over easy egg for an extra charge that was the perfect balance. The house salad was simple with butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, radish, cucumber, with a light lemon house dressing that brought the salad together. It was refreshing. The French toast is pretty standard. Nothing that particularly stood out. The banana pecan pancake was delicious and shared with everyone at the table. The house potatoes were extra crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, which I found particularly satisfying. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and found Portabello's to be a good brunch spot in Salinas. The service was fast, the food portions were big, the food tasted fresh, and it was a nice ambiance. I would definitely return for the avocado toast and potatoes. Side note - I noticed Caesar Salad was misspelled on the menu as "Caeser"

The restaurant has a great drink selection and a great menu. We were pleasantly surprised to learn they offer a Tuesday dinner special that includes an appetizer, entrée, and dessert for only $32! This menu also had a special drink selection. I ordered the house salad, prawn risotto, and chocolate lava cake. The salad was very fresh with spring mix and butter lettuce, which I especially enjoy, and it was topped with a light vinaigrette style house dressing that was light and delicious. The prawn risotto was creamy, flavorful, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. The chocolate lava cake was rich and very chocolatey, a bit too rich for my personal taste, but still enjoyable. It also came with vanilla gelato, which was delicious. As a table, we also ordered the tableside tiramisu, which was such a fun and unique experience. I am a tiramisu connoisseur, so anytime I see it on the menu, I ordered it. It is my favorite dessert. Although this was not my favorite one, I very much enjoyed the experience. I will mention the espresso needs a little more time to fully soak into the ladyfingers, but the presentation and experience alone made it worth trying. The ambiance was lovely with nice background music, and the service was attentive and welcoming. Everyone in our party truly enjoyed their meal, especially the birthday girl.
