First time at Elmer's, passing thru Pocatello. It was 5 mins off the highway, so no great detour. We arrived at 3:30 on a Tuesday afternoon and it was 1/4 full. Good sign. We were seated right away and our server (Alliyah) greeted us immediately. She was attentive and confident, very efficient. My wife ordered the Bacon Cheddar Burger, which arrived with fries, and I got the Chicken Fried Steak, dinner style, which came with mashed potatoes and choice of soup/salad. My salad arrived in 5 mins. It was crisp and cold, with dressing and garlic toast on the side. Good start. Our meal arrived 8 mins later The burger was juicy, plump and cooked perfectly. The CFS came with seasonal veggies, which was squash. Not my fave but I ate some and I was well seasoned. There were also the mashed potatoes, which were Yukon golds, my favorite! They were prepared the way I like: mostly creamy with a little texture. When I looked at the CFS, I was dubious: it looked like an overcooked cornmeal crust. Looks were deceiving. It wasn't overcooked, it was not all cornmeal but it was under-seasoned. The gravy was well prepared and seasoned. All-in-all, still a solid meal. The service was as good as I have ever had. Seriously fantastic. The family next to me was celebrating a birthday breakfast, and just seemed to be having a great meal too. Late breakfast at Elmer's, more like brunch. It was busy inside and our service was still great. The restaurant isn't quiet but it's not rowdy and even with kids at other tables, it was quite bearable. Mom chose an oatmeal with berries and bananas. A huge portion and she enjoyed it. I chose the German pancake and for some reason, it didn't rise. They were very apologetic and did make another one but I didn't need it. The flavor was there and I enjoyed it. I sure didn't need a second one. Perfect with just a little butter and squeezed lemon wedges. Powdered sugar? Nope! Good stuff for breakfast! read more

Husband and I take breakfast really serious. Gravy has to be like I'd make it (otherwise I should have stayed home) eggs need to be runny if poached, soft and buttery if scrambled and hash browns crispy. Only thing I complained about this breakfast was my English muffin on my Benny was just warmed. I like those babies crisp like a tostada (I don't even care for tostadas but you get the idea) having a warm soggy Benny is just gross. Edible but gross. The egg was perfect and the hollandaise was just perfect. When we return I'll be asking for a crisp muffin!! read more

Love the American food, there is a great deal of waitresses that go above and beyond the call to duty. I enjoy prime rib and it's great there. I have always enjoyed the waitresses, they are sweet, caring and helpful to customers. I have watched them being very professional, not just with me, but with other clients in the restaurant. I have eaten at Elmer's restaurant in Pocatello for over 35 years but never will again. During a recent lunch with a friend at Elmer's, we offered a credit card to pay for our meal. We were told by our very nice waitress that their internet was down and we would have to wait until it came back up in order to pay with a card. Not having the time to wait for an internet provider to come to the restaurant and trouble shoot, we scraped together the cash we had between us. The bill was 37$. We had 32$ in cash between us. I asked if we could get the meal for the cash we had. Out comes the owner/manager, Earl Coffman. Mr. Coffman said he would not give us a discount and told us we could give him our credit card to photocopy and that when his internet came back up, that they would complete the sale and shred the copy of our credit card. I said no. We decided to give them the cash we had and they gave us a receipt and a bill for the 5$ we still owed. Mr. Coffman wanted a copy of some kind of ID that he could use to send me a bill for 5$. I let him copy my drivers license. A couple of days later, as my husband and I were leaving for a long road trip, I stopped by Elmer's to give Mr. Coffman the 5$ that I owed and to give the very nice waitress a tip. I got a receipt from the waitress for the 5$ that I paid. All good, I thought.....until I returned home. This is the lovely letter I received from Mr. Coffman along with the photocopy of my drivers license. He could not even get my name right. read more

This place has been here forever! A good place to stop between Ogden and Yellowstone. At least that is what we do. Elmer's has been for as long as I can remember. They have a menu that is several giant pages long. It is usually at breakfast that we stop and they have great breakfasts. Wife has a waffle or something like that (she hates eggs). And I have one of their great omelets. Same this time! They use to have an omelette that I loved but they took it off the menu. That was the taco omelette/skillet. It was the bomb. Service was great and our server was always there to check on us. So, the food is very good, service is always good and a very friendly staff. The prices are very fair considering the portions. We will always stop in when passing through. read more

my fiance and I went out on our anniversary he order the Reuben and I ordered the fish and chips. the Reuben was amazing as always! but my fish and chips were way to oily when I reassured the waitress she got the manager which were both overly sweet and helpful. but the men in the back were very rude stared us down and kept talking loudly about how bullshit it was that we didn't like the fish and chips and this and that. when we walked out they both started us down shaking their heads with their arms crossed. very unprofessional if you ask me. especially to be talking about your probation violations and problems as your cooking my food. read more

This food is garbage! I ordered the turkey dinner with a salad. The best part was the salad. Sad. The "mashed potatoes" were from a bag! come on people, we are in Idaho!!! gag! The turkey was thin sliced meat from a turkey roll, very processed, thin and tasteless. The stuffing was not fresh and the cranberry sauce had been sitting around awhile. To top it off they did not even have turkey gravy! The served yellow, thin disgusting chicken gravy on the turkey and "potatoes"... waste of time and money. Never again will i return to this establishment. Food served cold and tasteless and there were flies buzzing in the window of the booth we sat in. Its sad because Pocatello has such limited choices in restaurants. The food reminded me of very bad hospital food and the only thing i got was bloated and an msg headache from all the sodium. Good parking, Plenty clean enough, Good service, good food( lingonberry crepes and bacon, ya just don't get that everywhere) and considering all, good price, and good Iced Tea. Elmer's has had its ups and downs over the years and I am happy to say its currently in an UP phase! Breakfast on a Sunday morning was the perfect antidote for a night of partying . The food was good, the waiter was attentive, kept my coffee filled and we got served pretty quickly. The thing I like about Elmer's is that you can sit up front in the coffee shop in the faux leather-covered boothes or at the counter, in the back in the fireplace room or in the diner at a table and chairs. The food isnt going to be 5 star but based on my last visit it will be about as good as your going to get for breakfast in Pocatello, Idaho...above all its comfortable and friendly. i want to give it 4 stars for feeling like home but I dont want to mislead...its like a 3.45 stars...just not quite enough to round up... read more
