The stuffing was as dry our as you could possibly imagine and the 2 trays of potatoes were dried out and hard as wood from the length of time out under the heat lamps, once you cracked them open however they were fluffy and tasty inside. They could have been nice when they were first put out (obviously a long time earlier) The veg was ok, the mustard and horseradish were crusted over. A young lady asked us what we wanted for dessert, we said we hadn't seen a dessert menu. She seemed very put out and asked if we wanted to see the menu and gave us a piece of note paper with the desserts written on. When she came back to take our dessert order she swang a chair round from the table next to ours and sat at our table to take our order. We assumed at first that she must be pregnant and need to sit when she could but she didn't appear to be. The desserts (2 ice creams and a brownie) took forever to come but were nice when they arrived. We kept going to the bar to ask for the bill and after 20 mins we all went to the bar on our way out in a final attempt to pay the bill. £170 including 'service charge'!!! The cheek! At no point were we shown a menu detailing the service charge policy or told about it at the billing stage. If the service was good we wouldn't have minded but it was really bad. We wanted to tip the lady with the pink hair that looked after us but NOBODY else deserved a tip but they automatically added a service charge to the bill that we had to ask over and over and over again for so we didn't have a choice. We'll never go there again.

The new landlords have obviously spent a lot of time and money renovating this landmark pub and have done a cracking job. Both the interior decor and beer garden (and even the washrooms) have been fitted out to a high standard. I was recently staying with family in Eltham (during an Olympic test event at Royal Artillery Barracks just up the road) and we popped in for an afternoon drink, and to escape the rain! We were warmly greeted by Dave the manager who showed us into the lounge area, furnished with leather armchairs and a huge sofa. After looking over both the bar menu and restaurant menu we decided to stay for food and moved into the restaurant side. My 8oz sirloin steak was perfectly cooked and, at just £9.99, easily beats the price and quality of a lot of other 'chain' pubs and Carveries. The cask ales on tap included Bombardier and Greene King, good solid London favourites :o) We came back for more at the weekend and I look forward to visiting again when I return for the Olympics. The White Hart is a fantastic family friendly pub that London can be proud of, we desperately need more like it.

I phoned 3 months ago to let them know about the ticket and was told it was cleared and i had no need to worry. Today i discovered they had sold it to a debt recovery agency destroying my credit rating as well as having bailiffs threatening my disabled older mother to recover the parking ticket debt. Very rude managers (apart from one who was friendly). The food isn't bad in this pub and nor are the drinks it's just the attitude of the management and the issues with parking which means I'd never visit again.

I was not keen on the bacon, but that's probably because it was smoked and I'm not a fan of food tasting like sweet smoke. My fellow breakfastarians between them tried the Eggs Special Royal (to celebrate our new princess!) which was apparently delicious, but came with cold avocado under the egg, which made the temperature of the whole dish a little odd. I hate to use this word, but I'll use it anyway (because I can't think of a better descriptor): the service here is "super" friendly, and very knowledgeable, particularly regarding the ales on tap. The barkeep gave us a few sample pours without waiting for us to ask, which we greatly appreciated. Because of that, we were more than happy with the pints we ordered. Moving on to the food: the roasts were delicious, in particular the pork loin, which was moist and flavorful. I enjoyed my roast beef as well. The Yorkshire pudding was wonderful and I might have been just as happy eating that alone for my meal, to be honest. The pub is in walking distance of the touristy areas of Greenwich, so it's easy enough to put some good food in your belly and continue on to your sightseeing, afterward.

Goddards at Greenwich is a traditional pie & mash restaurant that opened in London, England in…read more1890. It was founded by Alfred Goddard. 'Pie and mash' is a traditional English meal that became popular in the 1800s. The pies are actually savory and filled with minced meat such as beef, chicken or lamb. The pies originated in the 1700s as eel pies. The Thames River was once heavily populated with eels. They would be spiced, stewed in stock, and placed in the pies as a filling. These pies were often sold as a street food. By the 1800s, the price of eels has gone up so the pie filling was replaced with minced meat. Several pie shops began to appear and served pies with 'mash' (mashed potatoes). Alfred Goddard successfully ran his pie shop in Deptford for several years before passing it on to his sons Robert and George in 1936. A second shop was opened in Greenwich in 1952 and each brother managed one of the two locations. The Goddard Family still runs the business today, although only the Greenwich location remains. In addition to the restaurant, they also opened a factory which produces and distributes savory pies around England. I visited Goddards in April 2019. My wife visited there when she studied abroad and wanted me to experience traditional English pies and mash for myself. We stopped there for lunch after visiting the Royal Museums of Greenwich. After looking over the menu, I decided to order the Traditional Minced Beef Pie with Mash and my wife had the Chicken and Mushroom Pie. She told me to get gravy on everything, but we noticed that the menu listed gravy and 'liquor' as dressings. We wondered what exactly this 'liquor' was; was it alcoholic? Two locals overheard us and explained that the 'liquor' wasn't actually alcohol but rather a parsley cream sauce. They also explained that this is the more traditional dressing, not gravy. We decided to take their word for it and order liquor. Although eels are no longer stuffed into the pies, they are still a popular side dish so I ordered some eels as well. Everything was delicious and we ordered some local hard ciders to wash it down. It was so cool to have a traditional English dining experience and we will definitely go back the next time we visit London!
