We had to notarize a response for a counter affidavit for submission in the Philippines to respond for a perjury complaint we filed for our cousins. Basically theres an ongoing scam between filipino that they force filipino americans to default and mail their summons in different addresses in america. To combat these we signed a perjury complain affidavit for my cousins. So as soon as we got the affidavit, I sent my sister to the embassy, she drove 5 hours and we requested for an urgent processing to pick it up the same day as there is a strict 10 day deadline for the Philippine Prosecutor. This notary would not budge and told my sister that they will drop it off the next day and even refused to let us take a picture of the signed affidavit since we will email the signed affidavit to our lawyer and a signed receipt. She then accuse my sister of by questioning her why didnt we schedule an appointment sooner. Well, I scheduled this complain and this was the first available appointment. You need to explain to me what is more important than submitting to trying to meet a 10 day deadline to a criminal complain? Moreover, why are paying customers not allowed to take a picture of their very own signed form? Lastly and most importantly, why does it cost $25 to notarize a simple form? read more

We drove 11 hours just to be told they couldn't help us because our birth certificate is not PSA copies. On the website they just said bring original copy of birth certificate, and on the bottom it says get your PSA on this website. We brought a certified copies from NSO which they now call PSA, and now they just reprint the certificates on a yellow paper. They still bring the red tape habit here in the US and this is just another corrupt branch of Philippine government. They should've said PSA birth certificate is required. The staff feels entitled, rude and unhelpful especially the gay one with horrible eye brows. Typical Filipino government employees who thinks they're above all else. They have no compassion and consideration. They just want more and more money to steal. I'm mean we're willing to pay. read more

Sadly, the Embassy of the Philippines with its generic four-story beaux-arts design appears to be little more than simply a diplomatic outpost. Were it not for the paintings by Filipino artists portraying Filipino people on display inside, I'd barely have known this place had anything at all to do with the Philippines. And considering that construction on the Embassy did not being until 1991, I'm even more baffled as to why a greater effort wasn't put into making this building a relevant cultural symbol. read more

I came here to celebrate the around the world embassy day tour. More than 50 embassies in Washington DC, representing six continents, invited the public into their stately mansions and exclusive compounds to experience their country's food, art, dance and music. In the Phillippines embassy the ambiance was pretty festive. There were young kids dressed in national costumes available for photo opportunities. I tried on different tribal outfits from different regions. The performers showcased regional dances such as "tinikling" and visitors were encourage to try. The "singkil" the famous dance of maranao people of lake lanao is a crowd pleaser. To top it all, free native snack and cold calamansi juice for everyone. I was proud I have the opportunity to introduce a non Filipino to my culture. read more

In my limited experience with Consulate/Embassy offices I have often found the service and human quality lacking. That being said for the first time ever I received a call back. I was looking for clarification on a process, The digital media had me confused so i called the consular services dept to try and have it explained. I was directed to an answering service and left my name thinking that would be the end of it. In under an hour I received a call back by a very friendly lady who answered my questions and talked me thru the process. Employees here are very friendly and helpful. The process of ROM and passport was pretty fast. I dont know why other Filipinos are losing patience and getting upset while I was there maybe because they have been waiting for hours and they flew all the way from other State. Duhh! We are on the same boat. Please don't treat them like you own them, they are just doing their job. DMV is way worst than this. Trust me! My case was actually complicated and they were very friendly and kind. They do answer phone calls, they are very efficient and you'll not be treated here like you're dumb eventhough you don't know a lot of stuff. Make an appointment in advance to save your spot, if you do walk-in or you have to wait longer, go out for shopping or eat something. Like what I did. The Consulate was actually across the street from the embassy. Both look really nice. Prompt service. Love the kiosks for signing in and text messages for when it's your turn. Wait wasn't too bad at all. I found their process efficient. Staff were friendly and smiled. They appeared to be so patient with people who didn't have the right forms etc. We found a garage to park about 2 blocks away. I went there today (9/5/17) to renew my passport and found the process pretty efficient, quick, and relatively painless. Granted I reviewed their website and read everything at least five times and photocopied the exact number of copies they listed on the website. I also read the reviews here and on Google and took note of other peoples' experiences. So I was prepared and expected the worst. I got there at 1:30 pm and the room was fairly crowded but I still managed to get everything done and be out by 2:45 pm. A few things to note: The consular's office is no longer at the current Philippine Embassy (1600 Massachusetts Ave, NW). They moved to the brick building (1617 Massachusetts Ave, NW) across the Philippine Embassy last year, in between the Australian Embassy and the Johns Hopkins University business school. If you're going to take public transportation, the Dupont Circle Metro stop is the closest stop, about a 10-minute walk. There is a Colonial Parking garage that charges $11/hour but you'd have to pay $20 first and they'll refund you if you actually make it back in an hour (Ha! Good luck with that!). The garage is between the Johns Hopkins school and this consular office (you drive into a skinny alley and make a left). Read the website thoroughly. If you've read it already, read it again a few more times and then make a list of the documents that you'd need to bring. To renew a passport, you'd need to complete the application/renewal form, bring your greencard and 2 copies of it, bring your latest passport (if you have one) and 2 copies of the photo page, original birth certificate and two copies of it, and $60 cash. Make all the copies before you go there. And bring cash. I can't stress this enough. If you go there with incomplete documents or without the exact $60 cash, you'd have to leave the building and look for an ATM or a photocopy machine (maybe at the next door Johns Hopkins School of Business). If you're picking up your passport, there's only a very short pick-up time, which is between 3 pm to 4 pm every day. It doesn't matter if you get there at 9 am, they won't release your passport until 3 pm. I didn't experience any unfriendly or rude people manning the booths/windows. They could be friendlier but they were all professional and business-y (which was actually nice if you just want to be in and out of there). The woman at window 2 was actually helpful and patient with me as she explained the process and what the next steps were. I'm giving them 4 stars only because I wish they accepted debit/credit cards, offered photocopy services, posted clearer instructions on-site, and made their website more reader-friendly (text is in tiny font and there's way too much information to scroll/wade through). All in all, it was a good experience for me. If I haven't stressed this enough, read the Philippine Embassy website several times. Make a list of what documents to bring. Make copies and bring $60 cash before you go there. If you come prepared, you'll save a lot of time and stress. read more

Came here for a young filipino's networking event. The staffers were really very helpful, and informative. The location is great, and the building is standalone- parking can be a bit precarious. The air con is fantastic! ;) I do wish that this embassy had a bit more filipino 'flavor'. Normally I never really write reviews unless something needs to be clearly addressed. First, the lady at the window couldn't service me on because she was assisting someone else when my ticket number was announced. The woman then almost skips over me seconds later. What. I was just at your window not too long ago. Since when did I need to present a copy of my birth certificate to have my passport renewed? My driver license is a *legal* form of an identification from the last time I checked. The woman with the glasses questioned why the section of my middle name in my passport was left blank (as if I had the answer...?) when the document clearly says it was issued from this specific location. She needed to "see" where my middle name was coming from because she couldn't efficiently solve it in her mind (really?). I never had issues with it before presenting both my ID & passport at major security places, so why now? Oh. I forgot to mention this person moves at a glacier pace. There's only 1 person assisting & it's only window #3. I was advised to arrive no later than 2pm & I clearly saw why. Try early morning. I bumped into someone outside that was told his passport was going to be "ready" at 3pm, it was 3:12pm when I looked at my watch. Back in 2011, the process of getting my passport was a breeze, but now it's a nightmare!! If you thought that scene from Zootopia with the DMV scene was real, it is here. Don't bother, just get it all done in the Philippines if you can. PS. Make sure you bring lots of cash because they don't accept cards. read more

I am sooooo PROUD of my country and at the same time PROUD of the people working inthe embassy. My husband and I made an appointment last June 1 and now my passport arrived in good shape and amazingly surprise how wonderful our updated passport now is. It's very presentable and at the same time neatly done. When we were there the people were so nice and am very satisfied with my visit. I felt like I was in the Philippines that time that we even took a photo of our President DU30 which was hanged on the wall. Nakaka PROUD lang talaga how fast our transaction! Good job to our co-Pinoys! Hope our fellow Filipinos will have a good and satisfying transaction when they come visit our embassy. A little tip: Please do read the details on their website and bring some cash with you since they don't accept debit/credit card payments yet hopefully in the future. I don't understand how you could hire rude employees in an embassy! They're supposed to be approachable and help the people that needs assistance, not look down on them. 5 years ago they used to send the passports through mail even if u don't bring a self addressed envelope. If I could give them a negative rating, I would. Worst customer service ever. I sent multiple emails and left multiple voicemails over the course of two weeks to receive information on how to authenticate legal documents drafted in the U.S., and received NO responses. Zero. Nada. Calls to the main line never get answered either. They don't even have any kind of automated service to tell callers that all their representatives are busy or to direct callers to a voicemail box. Finally, today, I decided to call their consular "complaint" line and, voila!, someone answered. Shocking. I gave the representative a piece of my mind about their poor customer service, and she had the gall to say she wouldn't apologize for it because any lack of response was the fault of the specific individuals I tried to contact. Way to pass the buck, lady. Additionally, when I mentioned that general emails through their website and phone calls to their mainline go unanswered, she was still unapologetic and said if the secretary is busy, the calls are just rerouted and rerouted ad nauseum. So basically, a customer just has to wait and let the phone ring and ring and ring and *hope* someone has a modicum of professionalism to answer. THEN, to add icing to the shitcake she already offered, the representative condescendingly told me that all the information I was looking for was allegedly on their crappy website. Listen, if you guys don't want to answer your phone calls, voicemails, or emails, or, you know, offer the bare minimum in customer service, then at least have the courtesy to have an answering message or service specifically directing customers to where they can look on the website. It's that simple. And don't hide behind your website and what is or isn't offered there as an excuse for your horrible customer service. This place is a freakin joke. I called 3x in a span of 1 week, nobody ever picks up; the voice prompt tells u to leave a voice message; did that 3x too and nobody calls back. I sent an email; no reply. Trying this many times to contact them must be so important right? Yeah. To them? Hell no! So I decided to fly all the way to DC from FL just to get here, and what do I see? A building that looks like a red brick house. It looks nothing like an embassy. If it weren't for a flag outside, you wouldn't be able to identify what this place is. They did not do much to make this building represent Philippines, including the interior. As for the customer service, turtle slow. They have a number system and around noon, they all go to lunch and not say anything to the people waiting. What happens if you leave & come back not realizing that they're back from their break and started calling out numbers again? What if your number got called but you went out to eat lunch? What then? The consul was not apologetic about it at all. This is just one of the many reasons why I'm not proud to be a filipino. read more

I don't even know if they deserve a star. Imagine, I am trying to get hold of the SF office and with no avail, I called the Embassy. The SECRETARY of the CONSUL answered the phone call. I asked her about SPA's... and she tells me to call SF because Seattle is under them. So I asked why is that? Does that mean that SF and Washington DC have different regulations regarding SPA's? It is saddening to say that the service is better in McDonalds or Wendy's if you try to bring up a concern. Passport renewal date: 1-24-13 (Wife), 1-23-13 (Myself & my son). Got ours last month in the normal amount of time. Called 3-19-13 to get a status, all options during the calls go to a voicemail. Unbelievable! Called again today and was able to talk to the operator who stated"Just got a diplomatic bag containing passports and they are still sorting it out. If her passport is there, it will arrived this week" I am appalled with the kind of system in place wherein you can't get a definite answer. It's like spinning the wheel and if you are lucky yours will be there. Last time I checked, the office is in the U.S. where there is available technology and examples of procedure that can be adopted from neighboring embassies. Please note the location is called "Embassy Row" in Mass Ave, DC. She even mentioned that she has been overwhelmed with calls of the same nature. I advised her to tell her Supervisors and all she could muster was "They know but they don't care"! There you go folks!!! It sums it up!. Expensive fees, incompetent processing of docs, sub-par service which is a total reflection of the person running the show (Consul Gen A. Penaranda). Advise to all nationals who have no choice but to conduct business in this office, bring a lot of patience and understanding that it will never improve to the standards we expect living in the U.S. 4-11-13: Called on 4/8/13 to follow up on the status of my wife's passport (note date of renewal 01/24/13) and the lady told me the person who has access to the other computer is in the Bahamas for an outreach program and will be back on 4/11/13. This office is UNBELIEVABLE!. A person goes out of town and the customers, fellow Filipinos, suffer because this incompetent office/employee does not have a back-up to serve the needs of customers trying to get answers regarding this concern. If he was to be out for a number of days, then there should be someone who can do this simple system inquiry (that is if there is really a system in place) to satisfy all who are trying to find out what is going on with the passport and where exactly it is. I hope Ken G of N.C. does not experience this type of delay much more the agony of following up to get a simple answer, where is my passport. Imagine if you are about to travel and have given them enough time to take care of this process but still it becomes a mind-boggling experience/headache then we are all totally screwed. read more

We just went to the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC to process a Renewal of Passport and Special Power of Attorney last December 12,2017 @ 10:30am. Everything is fine except that the receptionist in giving out numbers for the passport renewal and the receptionist in receiving documents for the SPA ( Special Power of Attorney) are a little bit rude. Just a suggestion , for the renewal of passport wherein it was stated that we bring a self addressed stamp envelope (either priority mail or express), is it possible to list down in the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC website the location where the nearby US postal mail services is located. People who does not have this, were directed to that nearby USPS location. It would have been easier if it is already stated on the website. A suggestion for those picking up SPA especially for the elderly, is it possible that it will be released in an earlier time considering there health condition . I was so thankful and blessed for the young lady who assisted us on the release of our SPA. This happened around 1:20pm December 12,2017. I cannot thank her enough for considering the one asking for the SPA is an elderly. Thank you very much for your assistance. God bless. Their phone services needs to be improved. I have been trying to call ALL the numbers listed on their website but the single response I ever got was, "The mailbox is full...." I find it ironic because even the emergency number and their complaint/ grievance department has the same automated response. I have been calling them daily, both in the morning and afternoon but to no avail. Honestly, go to the website and check beforehand what are the requirements or else you're gonna spend your time looking dumb like I was. They usually have PDF documents of stuff you need to fill out, just print those out, twice. Make sure to photocopy twice of everything because chances are their copying machine does not work. The door was locked, someone from the inside has to open it and so, it gets frustrating when nobody comes by the door to check if there are people outside waiting. In the morning, yes, it gets busy and the ladies in the counters speak to you in a condescending manner. Around noon time though, the line dies down and somehow they changed their mood to being less cranky. Passport people have to take a number window 2 and and then non-passport related have to sign-in on a sheet placed on the counter of window 3. This was the situation I was in at the time I came. They are relocated to another building across the street (1617 no.) Im just letting you know to avoid getting lost and looking dumb. Like I did. read more
