Solo cup in my room that wasn't mine
Alexandra H.

Would put 0 stars if I could. There were so many things that went wrong! My room wasn't cleaned before I got there, It was infested with bed bugs, a worker walked in on me changing in my room. 0/10 experience it has been over a month since I stayed here and they still have done nothing to resolve the issue. They are trying to say it wasn't bed bugs but it was

Bird at breakfast both days
Christian E.

The hotel itself is beautiful and has potential but the breakfast area is not big enough when it is busy. We had to wait about 30 minutes for our omelet to be cooked then there were no empty tables on Saturday & Sunday morning. Ruth Chris steakhouse takes up a lot of the seating area or they have seats blocked off so they can usher you into one side to check your room number. There was a bird flying around during breakfast too. The bed was lumpy and the room smelled like cigarettes. They have this tiny little step out ledge (not big enough for patio) but probably where everyone is going out the door in their bedroom to smoke because both rooms we had smelled like an ashtray. They charged for parking although they never even asked if we had a car. How do they know we didn't uber or taxi there? If you are going to charge for parking you normally provide parking passes. All of the staff were extremely nice but I've stayed in much better Embassy's before. There was 5-6 people in the parking lot on Friday night sitting on top of a truck partying till 2-3am keeping us awake so apparently this security wasn't paying attention.

First impression is they need a remodel. I arrived at the hotel early for my stay and proceeded to ask Tiffany if I could check-in early. I've been staying at Hilton hotels for years now and have never had an issue with checking in early. She told me I had to wait until after twelve noon and she would call me. No offer to wait in the lobby, no offer to explore the city and get something to eat; just you'll have to wait til after 12. I proceeded to sit in the lobby to get some work done because my meeting started at 1:30. I drove into the city from Atlanta for an event. I ended up changing my clothes and freshening up in their bathroom on the first floor around 12:45 because my room still wasn't ready. At 1:15 I got a call that the room was ready. I had co-workers coming to meet me at1:30 and they had just arrived at the hotel and were waiting in the lobby. I went ahead to the front desk to get checked in. Someone at that front desk smokes because that was all I could smell. It smelled horrible. I kept asking if she smelled smoke and Tiffany kept smiling and saying she didn't. When you don't smoke, you can smell it very well. That odor of cigarette smoke was disgusting and it was all over that front desk area. After getting me checked in she asked me if I was driving and told me I would have to pay an extra $5 to park. I was flabbergasted. This hotel looked and smelled OLD. I'm not paying $5 to park until they update some things in here. I got to my room and the door was stuck. Finally got it open and the light wouldn't come on. Went to the bedroom and there was a stain on the sheets. Checked out the bathroom and thought it would be okay; until i went to use it the next morning. i met my coworkers in the lobby and immediately left the hotel. i didn't return until after 1 in the morning. This was when i noticed a stain on the lampshade, plastic cups on the floor outside my door, and the outlet in the bedroom was coming off the wall. When i went to use the shower, it turned into a bath. The shower would not drain no matter what I did. I took my shower/bath and got out of this mishap of a hotel. This place is terrible. Their customer service is just halfway okay. They are nice nasty here; when they aren't ignoring you. For what I paid, almost $150 for a night, I expected much better. I did at least get two bottles of water for being Hilton honors.

Ruth Chris located in the hotel

Very friendly hotel staff. The omelet bar at breakfast is tasty and quick. Perfect start to my day. The property is currently undergoing renovations, but for the updated suites, the decor and amenities are nice. Very convenient to have a Ruth Chris steakhouse in the hotel.

Some of the Asian lady beetles in the 1st room.

Though the staff was nice, the hotel and rooms show signs of deferred maintenance. More importantly, extermination services are certainly needed. I spent three nights at this location, and due to the bugs (Asian lady beetles, stink bugs, and roaches), had to be moved to a different room each night. Every room had bug issues, including the one I stayed in for my final night. My work trip was extended for two extra nights, but I knew I could not risk another night at that location because I did not want to leave with bugs I did not arrive with. Instead, I was forced to relocate across town to another Embassy Suites location. In spite of reaching out to Hilton Honors and being told they had sent a message to the hotel management asking them to address the issue at checkout, there was ZERO effort to make me whole or compensate me for the grave inconvenience of constantly having to pack up my belongings to relocate. I am a longtime Hilton Honors member and have come to expect a certain level of customer service everywhere I go. I was taken back by the lack of effort to make amends for the substandard accommodations I endured during my stay. After my trip concludes in the morning, I have ZERO intention of EVER laying my head at any Hilton-branded property until this matter is properly addressed with the respect due to any guest.

For the price we paid to stay here as a group I would have expected way more as far as cleanliness and overall accommodation. Upon distant view this looks like it could be a decent hotel and stay. But as you look closer it was disgusting or something was not functioning to some extent. First without warning when we arrived we found out the pool was closed, then our room had dirty sheets which were asked and received new sheets, then our toilet didn't flush which was fixed after a 30 minute wait. The things in the room was on its last life and the hallway had the same mess on the floors for 4 days at least because we left on day 4! The good? We got breakfast and a happy hour. Why did we stay, we were stuck as a large group but never this place again.

Climate controlled lobby with water features and wildlife. Spectacular!

This is an absolutely beautiful property, but there are just too many little things not up to par for a hotel of this nature. Indoor pool was closed. My soap dispenser and toiletry rack were empty. There were no linens in the room for the hide a bed. Many of the ingredients out for breakfast were noticeably not fresh. Outdoor balcony smelled like weed (not the hotel's fault) This would be a 5.0 review if more of the employees (and administrators) here simply gave a damn.

Koi pond
Ted S.

First impressions were great, the koi fish pond was eye catching and it was just beautiful. However, the staff was EXTREMELY rude and were very judgmental and gave me Attitude, specifically the people at the front desk. Since my room was not ready we had to switch rooms and go to the eighth floor, I am scared of heights so this was not fun for me, and there was construction and plastic wrap on the floor. I slept terribly, the bed hurt and the pillows hurt my head, the only good part about this experience was the decor.

Looks like old blood stains on the mattress
Leslie B.

The hotel is gorgeous. When you walk inside the staff is really nice. However, the rooms are horrible! The first room I was in the carpet look like it hadn't been vacuumed in days. The ceiling was pilling in the shower above your head and top it off and look like there was blood splattered on the mattress! Yuck! I was offered the second room and in that room again the carpet look like it hadn't been vacuumed in days. There was food on the floor so we knew it hadn't been vacuumed. There was candy stuck to the couch and the mattress was filthy which means that it had not been cleaned we didn't have any type of soap or anything inside of the bathroom. Then when we asked for a hair dryer, they said it was on the back of the door however, there was no hook on the back of the door. To top it off water ran all day and they fixed it once but every time we took a shower it did the same thing and that was just really annoying and disgusting. The sink in the bathroom was clog up so I don't know what was going on with the plumbing wasn't up whatsoever, however $100 from incidentals which made it almost $1000 that they were holding on my card. I'm not rich. I can't turn around and get another hotel when you tell me it's gonna take four days before my money will be released off of the card that you were holding this hotel really needs an upgrade and whoever these rooms need to do a better job room. It was so disgusting and then I ended up with a respiratory infection while I was there so I just will never stay there ever again. I called the Hilton to make a complaint and they just, acted like it was nothing and asked me crazy questions on the phone like did I let the hotel know about what was going on in the room well, yeah you did give me another room and you did and maintenance up to try to fix the issue in the second room, so obviously I did tell somebody what was going on with the roomsI just wont stay there again EVER but the staff is really nice

This is the quality of the shower we found it in. (Discolored, and missing the water temperature handle)

The Embassy Suites is my preferred hotel, but this one is unlike any other Embassy Suites I've ever stayed at. Upon arrival you're somewhat greeted and given a 'welcome gift' of two water bottles. After checking into the room it smelled very strong of cleaning chemicals, (this could be bad for some but it was comforting to me). But after looking closer the room is not up to the standard I'm use to at the embassy suites. Settled in and ended up going to the lobby drink service, which ended up just being a makeshift bar they set up in the breakfast serving area. The lobby is beautiful, but there was leak from the roof leading to a damage control area in the lobby. Essentially everything is outdated, but still in decent shape. Everything is usable and in working order. Overall it looks like this was a great hotel in the early 2000's and NOTHING has been changed since. It felt more like a value hotel, than the Embassy Suites I'm used to. I am leaving this review so people with the same expectations do not book this hotel thinking it's the same standard as other Embassy Suites. No complaints about the service, or actual stay. After night one we ended cancelled the rest of our stay and changing to another hotel down town.

When we got to our room we were amazed on how big the space was. We all had plenty of room so there was no overlapping of space between 3 people and there was plenty of nearby restaurants that we were able to walk to and Railroad Park to enjoy a day in the sun. The breakfast was good considering it was the holidays and the mini store was reasonably priced. My wife said that she would love to make this our regular hotel whenever we come in town. Great job!

The main reason we chose this location was because of the excellent experience we previously had at the Home2 Suites location in Hoover, Alabama. That property was superb, so we expected the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the downtown Birmingham location fell far short of those expectations. Upon entering our room, it was clear that cleanliness was an issue. The bathroom sink had brown residue in it, the shower floor was dirty, and there was hair throughout the bathroom. I actually had to clean the bathroom myself before feeling comfortable using it. The couch in the room was also covered in visible stains, making it unusable for us during our stay. To make matters worse, the ironing board completely fell apart while we were trying to iron our clothes. As a result, we had to iron our clothing on the bed, which is far from ideal and does not provide the same results as using a properly functioning ironing board. This was another indication that the room furnishings and equipment were not being adequately maintained. I will say that the beds were comfortable, and the hotel's downtown location is very convenient. Being close to restaurants, entertainment, and other attractions was definitely a plus. Another major concern was the parking situation. Guests are required to pay for self-parking, yet there was rarely any available parking. To make matters worse, catering vehicles from Taziki's, a restaurant located across from the hotel, appeared to be occupying spaces in the hotel parking area. Those spaces should be reserved for paying hotel guests. While the location is excellent, that alone does not make up for poor cleanliness, poorly maintained furnishings, and a lack of attention to the overall guest experience. This stay was a stark contrast to the outstanding experience we had at the Hoover location. Because of that, we will not be returning to this particular property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests can have a better experience.

The room overlooked a couple of buildings but it was a nice view to see some of the local businesses. We saw many apartments in the area from our window view. The tub was spacious and the room had a very nice long table to utilize. There was a mini fridge, microwave and keurig that were nice to have. Posting for a friend. Email account is Christylee6578@gmail.com…read more She will be contacting corporate. Had a bad experience while staying there. I rented a room for my daughter's 21st birthday. We went to Moonshine to celebrate. We were going to have food and drinks there and light her birthday cake so that we could have pretty scenery and pictures of Birmingham. As we walked in the door, found our spot a mob of staff came over to ID everyone and said that they saw someone that looked under age on their cameras. The only person that was young was my daughter who was 21 and had a birthday sash that said she's 21 so that was kind of weird. After everyone showed their IDs we asked if we could light the candles for her birthday cake and the bartender/staff said no that there had been a gas leak and that we were not allowed to have lighters and that we could not do that. So we decided to take the cake downstairs to the room. No birthday cake with candles and 21st birthday wishes or pictures to capture the moment and the memory. A little while later we returned back to Moonshine ordered food and drinks. One of the girls in our group of 7 (All individual tickets ) food was not brought out after 10 minutes of everyone else receiving theirs. We got up to check and they said that they thought it was already out, she finally received her order & eventually by that time everyone was already finished with their food and beverages. The next day checking out, the staff member at the front desk, asked how was everything and I had told her what it happened the night before with the incident upstairs at Moonshine. She raised her eye and nodded her head back-and-forth and said there has been no gas leak and if there was they would not be serving food much less have the hotel open for safety precaution. She said that that did not sound right at all. She said probably because it was a group of girls the bartender/staff maybe was just being rude because she said that she was aware that plenty of parties that would include cake and candles have been hosted upstairs plenty of times. The whole story about the gas leak is what really had me questioning what was going on? Was the girl just being ugly to us? Was there really a gas leak? All I know is that the cake that I purchased was useless and my daughter did not get to blow out her candles for her 21st birthday Noor capture the candid moments of doing so at this beautiful hotel for her special occasion. Well, I will say this, the concierge and everyone downstairs at the desk were very nice throughout the time there that we stayed and apologized for what it happened the night before. It's almost as if from the beginning, the bartender/staff came up to us and asked for our IDs, that denied using a lighter to light candles, and then the mixup with the order of our food seemed very intentional. I even began to question why they would be watching us on camera and single out one of the girls in our group who definitely doesn't look under age, but yet they did not have the problem with the actual 21-year-old birthday girl, but asked for all of our ID's and I'm 48 if that gives you any insight, the ladies that were with us, they were not children. These are grown women. The whole thing just ruined a special moment that my daughter will not be able to have again. You only turned 21 once. Spending money on a luxury hotel, food and beverage at Moonshine, ordering room service the next morning plus the purchase of the cake that we did not get to life at candles too seems to be a waste. Beautiful hotel, but definitely would not recommend to anyone that wanted to have a celebration. God forbid you light a candle.

Nice remodel into a hotel and very creative as well. I peaked into the rooms being serviced while I was leaving and none looked the same as mine in the inside. My room had a cool mail chute built into the wall. There is also the old directory in the lobby that listed the branch managers and workers that were on each floor. The inside interior design is very well done. The lobby area is so pretty. I love the graduating wall paint. Incredibly cool. My room had some strange nooks and crannies in it that really made it even cooler. There were windows tucked into tiny corners. Tons of uniqueness. The room was clean, well stocked, coffee maker worked, hot waster came fast, and the bed was super comfy. So much in fact, I thought I was home when I woke up to use the restroom in the night. My only gripe is the it's a bit rough around it. Not much you can do about that. The homeless people that are around are sad to see, and there were quite a few. I wish more could be done to help them. It's tough to sleep in a $250/night room and know people are asleep on the ground outside. Not shaming these fine folks, but it is what it is. I'd return. For sure. '26 - 50

We are loyal Hilton Diamond members and have stayed at multiple Hilton properties around the world. This was one of the worst properties we have ever stayed at. We stayed here in February and from the time we attempted to check in, it was disappointing. We were upgraded due to our Diamond status and upon checking into our room it was absolutely disgusting. The bedsheets appeared dingy and the bathroom was gross. There was hair on the ground and a vomit stain on the tile. So vile! We called downstairs right away and were moved to another room that was not much better. However, we were there for a family function and has other guests arriving that we has suggested the hotel to. We did notify the manager on duty and he told us he would escalate our concerns. The next day, the hotel manager, Tonya was on sight and sat down and spoke to us regarding the issues. She agreed that our experience was 100% unacceptable and promised to compensate our Hilton Honors points for our entire stay. She assured us that she would make this happen. Also, despite our complaints and meeting with her, our room was never even serviced by house keeping our entire stay. Now over 1 month later after no follow-up call or email, we contacted her and at first she acted as if she has no idea what we were talking about. Then she stated she escalated the issue to corporate but was unauthorized to issue more than 20,000 points, which covers absolutely nothing. And stated there was not really anything for her to do! She totally and outright lied to us, after she had assured us in person and in an email that our entire points would be compensated. She even had the audacity to even yell at us on the phone. This is not the type of experience I expect as a loyal Hilton Diamond Member. In conclusion avoid this disgusting and poor quality Hilton property at all costs.
