Shady billing practice, rude front desk, and they never gave me my lab results. Go somewhere else…read more I regret visiting Peninsula Urgent Care in Torrance. What should have been a simple visit turned into months of billing harassment, zero communication, and a complete lack of respect for patient rights. Here's what happened to me, so you can avoid the same thing. First, they ordered an out‑of‑network lab without telling me. I came in for a minor concern and explicitly told the staff verbally that I only wanted treatment covered by my insurance. I had a valid traveler's insurance policy. The doctor prescribed a cream and also ordered a lab test. No one told me the lab would be sent to a third-party, Quest Diagnostics, which was out‑of‑network for my plan. I never signed a separate, informed consent for an out‑of‑network lab, as California law (AB 72) requires. My insurance denied the test because it was an excluded service. The test was excluded under my policy. That is something the urgent care could have checked before ordering it. Yet Peninsula still let Quest Diagnostics bill me directly. Also, they never gave me my test results or any records. Months later, I have never received the lab results, nor any notice from Peninsula about what the test even showed. Instead, I only got bills from Quest. Finally, the front desk was pretty unhelpful. When I called to resolve this, the woman at the front desk was dismissive and condescending. She told me the case was "too old" (it had only been a few months) and that the doctors have "nothing to do with insurance". She refused to help and told me to call the billing department. I called billing, during their posted business hours, and waited on hold for nearly an hour before the line disconnected. No one ever answered. Multiple attempts and the result was the same. They outsourced billing to Quest Diagnostics, which now threatens collections. Because Peninsula never billed my insurance correctly and never informed me of the out‑of‑network lab, Quest Diagnostics has been sending monthly "payment due" letters to an old address. They are now threatening to send the balance "I owe" to collections and hurt my credit. All of that for a test I never consented to, whose results I never saw, and which my insurance already denied as excluded. This place operates in a very dishonest way. They order unnecessary out‑of‑network tests, don't tell the patient, then let a lab hound you for payment. They hide behind a rude front desk and an unreachable billing department. They ignore California's surprise billing law and patient record laws. Of course, I'm taking this to California's DMHC. If you care about your time, your health, and your credit, do not go to Peninsula Urgent Care. There are plenty of other urgent cares in Torrance that actually respect their patients. Save yourself the headache. Go anywhere else.

The below was the sad outcome: I walked in and they already looked at me with a "what are you doing here" face. I said I had a 9am appt and sorry I was late (it was 9:03am). They said "she's not here. We don't have any records of you. You must have scheduled with main office. I looked at my phone calls history and said that I had scheduled with +1 (310) 517-0130. They looked at each other and didn't say anything. I asked: was it here? Liz said "yes". Sissily said: but I've already told you she's not here. Nobody apologized for not calling me to cancel appt. Sissily had a very negative attitude. I went to my car, but got curious on who could have called me to cancel the appt and why such a bad attitude for no reason. Decided to go back in there to say someone could at least call me to let me know and she just kept saying "she's not here". I asked for their names, and the name of the person I scheduled to see (so I could talk to her and complain about their front desk attitude). Liz was on the phone. Sissily didn't want to provide names. I said that I'd rather talk to the other lady (Liz) bc she had too much of an attitude. There was a lady walking in and saw this very last part only. I'd also like to apologize to her, if there's a way to do so. No matter how they treated me, I should not have used such a strong and negative work. Anyway, I understand people have hard days and sometimes let it affect their interactions with other people that have nothing to do with it, but I believe sissily owes me an apology for treating me with such an attitude and not being clear on what the issue was. She was not answering my questions properly; seemed like she didn't want to admit the mistake was on their end (for not canceling) and didn't even think of simply apologizing. A simple "I'm sorry" would have solved the issue, and we could move on to rescheduling. Now I'm back to square zero on my search for help with my weight loss journey that I so desperately need :(

The light sculpting helps tighten the skin, the vibra machines helps to increase muscle tone, while the water massage is just relaxing. Through out the experience there is old school pop music playing which helps you stay motivated. The girls are great! Friendly funny and caring. They take the time to listen to your goals and make recommendations without being pushy. One woman I met in the waiting room had lost 50 lbs and gone off her diabetes medicine. I bought a microdermabrasion facial on Groupon thinking that I might find a cool new place as my previous facialist had moved out of town. Booking my appointment was easy but the first time was cancelled by the office due to an ill facialist. Illness happens, okay, no worries. The second (rescheduled) visit though, was dismal. Minus Star - First of all, this is NOT a spa. This is a doctor waiting room playing spa muzak. Was horrified that I didn't know this and left my mask in my car. While they did provide me one, no-one at reception was wearing hers of the three visible staff. When one goes for treatment, there are folks chatting in the area just outside the treatment room door. Not relaxing. Minus Star - Second of all, the waiting room was packed. I overheard two ladies complaining to each other that they had been waiting for over an hour. The receptionist told me there wasn't a room yet available. After 25 minutes of waiting I told her I couldn't wait anymore. Ended up being treated within 2 minutes. That made my departure 90 minimum after arrival. Minus Star - The treatment room was not comfortable. I mentioned this to Myra my facialist and she said it was cold but didn't ask if I wanted another blanket or anything else that could make me comfortable. I had to ask for a bolster for under my knees, but what she ended up bringing me was a small pillow, like you'd have on the sofa. Minus a half Star - There were many positives about the facial but big ugh was bright light in my eyes whole time with no eye covering. While there were redeeming qualities about the facial, this was endemic to what felt like a lack of personal attention to the comfort of the client. Minus a half Star - the bathroom in the doctors office was not functioning. If you want to use the restroom, you have to go down the hall. Would have been nice to know this before my treatment.... Again, this is part of the lack of holistic attention to the client. The facial its self was fine. She did a good job getting my skin clean and the oxygen did keep it from running. However, the sunscreen or whatever topical cream she applied before I left made my skin sticky. Came back for my 2nd facial and it was a worse experience. Not as long a wait but aesthetician did not even introduce herself, never told me what she was doing as she was doing it and then when she finished, I asked her where was the oxygen and she said they weren't doing that anymore. What?! TL/dr: Not a spa experience but a okay facial.
