I was referred to Anke by a friend. I can say, hands down, that she gives one of the best massages I've ever experienced, and I have had massages from many different therapists. What a wonderful massage therapist and what a wonderful person. When I went to see her because of a flair up of radiating leg pain due to herniated discs, she made an instant personal connection with me that made me feel safe and understood. I have dealt with soooo many different types of healthcare professionals and have very rarely come across one as truly interested and passionate about her work as Anke. To me, this is invaluable because not only will they try their best to help you, but their chances of succeeding are greater because of the communication and understanding. All of this was true for my session with her. The massage was both healing and relaxing, using a variety of techniques including hot stones. And I especially liked the emphasis on aroma therapy. I'm really sensitive to strong smells (they can make me sick even if they smell 'good') and whatever she used was wonderful. I was in the market for a new massage therapist and after seeing all her five-star reviews on Yelp and learning about her history of working with athletes, I decided to give Anke a call. I was not disappointed. Her home-based studio is a relaxing and healing space. Her massage combines a variety of techniques and methods (i.e., hot stones, essential oils, lymphatic, etc -- she knows the whole gamut) and she is incredibly skilled and strong. She also listens and is observant -- managing to find the exact spot that needs to be released. I consistently leave her studio feeling relaxed and energized. Anke has also studied healing arts at the Four Winds school, which I had never heard of. But, I did have curiosity about her shamanic practice so after a few traditional massage sessions, I felt comfortable asking her more about it and decided to give her Medicine Wheel class a try. It was a four week workshop, met for a few hours once a week, and was limited to 8 students. I arrived nervous and with one eyebrow raised, skeptical that it might be too new-agey or touchy-feely for me. It turns out, it was awesome. Yes, there were rattles and sacred space, which may not be everyone's cup of tea, particularly if you are a skeptic like me. But, at the end of the day, I'm so glad I gave the class a shot. The affect it has had on my life was profound. It helped that Anke is very genuine and down-to-earth. She's a real straight-shooter. No BS. Not pushy. Not new-agey/ethereal. Just very direct and straightforward, but also kind and remarkably perceptive. I admit I was surprised, maybe even a bit taken aback, at how the tools I learned in the class were helpful. I particularly found the three-card story and ancestral altar-building exercises to be great for self-reflection. But I was most surprised at the transformative affect using these tools had on my perspective and belief in myself! I had been at a place where I felt stuck for a long time, both personally and professionally. Her class gave me the boost and insight I needed to face fears head on and move forward. By the time the four weeks were up, I felt stronger. A few months later, I was able to line things up so I felt I could comfortably quit my job without having another one, take time to get some much-need rest, and have now secured a new job that I think I'm really going to love. Six months ago, I felt trapped in a cubicle, believed I was stuck and washed up, totally uncertain where to go next or what to do about it. Now, I am in the process of moving to a city that I've only dreamed of living in and for a job that I really think is going to work out well. I think to be successful with Shamanic Healing, you need to be open to taking a good, hard, honest look at yourself and not view it at as some kind of a magical cure-all for your problems. Anke and her co-teacher (Emily) for my particular class, supplied me with the tools I needed, but as with everything in life, only you can do the hard work. I cried on more than one occasion in my sessions, which isn't my typical modus operandi, so it was a safe space to be really open and she was great about supplying the tissue. My classmates were also very nice. I have told Anke more than once that, at least for me, her classes and our private sessions were more effective at helping me bring about life change in a short period of time than seeing a life coach or therapist. She helped me sort through some very tough issues and fears that had been holding me back for a long period of time. Now, I don't expect my life to always be rosy, but I do feel more confident that the next time life throws me multiple curve balls all at once, I have some effective tools in my bag to manage things better. I began seeing Anke for Physical Therapy to increase the range of motion in my ankle that has been messed up from a 25 yr old sports injury. While Anke does amazing massages, my emphasis is getting my ankle as normal as possible. Anke has been great at focusing getting me back to do the things that I desire. She works dliigently at the area of most concern, but works the entire body for balance. I rarely give reviews but when I find a business like this, I want everyone in SD to enjoy it. I'm very picky with whose services I use. I am NOT a "spa massage" type person. I'm busy, stressed, not a fan of "frou-frou" and won't be a return customer unless I'm wowed. Well, I'm wowed. She has the experience and knowledge to understand muscle pain, stress (and how it effects the body), techniques and knowing how to help without hurting you (which has happened with my last 2 attempts with other MT's). She has this great place overlooking Lake Hodges and the coolest part is her treatment/healing room is downstairs INSIDE these massive boulders. Talk about being "grounded" lol. I now use Anke and a Chiro (both of which worked for the SD Chargers) every week when I'm not travelling and it's literally changed my life of pain and imbalance. My advice is; 1) Have an open mind, this is not Massage Envy (meh), this is legit AILMENT REPAIR and this woman knows her Sh&!. 2) Follow her advice! When she tells you to ice, stretch etc DO IT 3) Accept the fact you will never end up going anywhere else. In 1-2 sessions you're going to realize she can REALLY help you and you will always run to her when you hurt! I'm not one to post reviews often but am motivated to leave one for Anke and Embrace Infinity. This is a quaint little studio in the hillside above Lake Hodges. One wouldn't necessarily seek out a massage in this area but I'm so glad I had the opportunity (thanks to a Groupon deal).The studio is in a "cave-like" setting downstairs from her home. The setting is very tranquil and relaxing, not to mention the peaceful atmosphere outdoors. Anke did an AMAZING job with a combination of hot stones, aromatherapy, and Swedish-style massage. You immediately feel that she puts all her soul and energy into her work. While she stuck to the 90 minute timeline, I felt like I was there for hours -it was that good! It's not often that I'm ready to be done after 90 minutes but Anke was very thorough in her work and I felt completely relaxed when she finished. I poured myself off the table feeling so serene, and blissful. My budget does not allow for massages often but I immediately purchased a second one for after the holidays. Anke is a true professional; knowledgable and capable isolating the root cause of specific pain and applying requisite pressure and manipulation required to relax muscles and eliminate pain. As a military pilot, often my gear and position in the aircraft for extended periods of time promote poor posture and the physical stress manifests neck and back pain. Periodically, I go see Anke, explain where my pain exists and she is able to immediately isolate the issue where is originates, which is surprisingly often not where the pain exists, and then work the muscles into relaxation causing the pain to exit the body. Recently, after a very busy season without much time to physically train, my neck had physically seized and both my upper and lower back were sore. I had an annual physical test approaching and was nervous my performance would be degraded due to my injury. Anke immediately knew what was wrong and during my hour session she focused on the issue with hot rock therapy, pressure application and muscle manipulation to drive the pain out. I was sore following the treatment but my back loosened, my neck more mobile and two days later I aced my physical test! Anke is such a gentle person and her genuine care is apparent upon first introduction. She provides a soothing environment and initial rapport to allow patrons to relax and rid themselves of the stressors of the world in order to truly sink into a meditative state and allow her to manipulate muscles appropriately without subconscious tension or pushback by the individual.
