I was looking for a wedding photographer and found Emily through links on Pinterest. I immediately loved her style and use of light in all of her photos. My now husband and I went to meet her at her apartment to discuss details and look at more of her work. Even her apartment is adorable! You can tell she is an artist in everything she does. Emily was our photographer for our engagement photos last spring and wedding in September 2012 and she did an amazing job! Her photos are gorgeous! They are artistic and really capture the day. There are so many I want to frame. . .sigh, only so many walls to put pictures on. In addition to taking stunning photos, she has a very calming presence. That was important to us because my husband and I don't really like being the center of attention and taking tons of photos. She made us feel at ease and that really showed in the photos. There aren't enough stars for Emily. The day of our family photos was hot and buggy and I'd dressed our entire family in sweaters. Our toddler was incredibly pissed off and seemed to cry half the time. I was so bummed. AND THEN we got Emily's photos. I was floored. Emily photographed our wedding and did a fantastic job. Not only did the pictures turn out great, but she turned them around in a month! Most importantly she made the entire process painless. Like many guys I am not a big fan of candid photos. I often complain during extended photo taking sprees. However Emily was so nice, friendly, and not bossy that the process was fun instead of a chore. My wife was shocked because I didn't complain once! Emily was our photographer for both our engagement shoot in the Presidio and our July wedding in Monterey. I have known Emily for several years from my days in San Francisco. I have marveled at her impressive talent and always promised myself that I would hire her as my wedding photographer before she became too famous. I knew I loved Emily's work as soon as I visited her website, but meeting her in person sealed the deal for my now husband and I right away. Emily is the best! Not only is Emily an incredible photographer who creates beautiful images, she is also a calm and friendly presence in a day that can be quite hectic. Emily shot both our engagement photos and our San Francisco City Hall wedding ceremony. All of her shots came out beautifully and we could not be happier with them! Her knowledge of the City Hall space also proved invaluable since we planned on taking a shot of us coming out of the front entrance as a newly married couple, but the front entrance was closed that day due to the inauguration of the new mayor. Emily knew of another picturesque entrance and helped our friends and family gather there for the photo instead. The new location worked out wonderfully and we think it actually turned out to be a better option than the front. It was a situation that could have been stressful but ended up going smoothly and producing great images because of Emily's expertise. Emily did a fantastic job photographing our engagement shots and wedding day in August 2011. When we met with her, we were impressed with her attention to detail---her photos of the table settings are just as beautiful as her shots of the bride and groom. We did a lot of DIY for our wedding, so this was really important to us. She didn't let us down. Because our wedding had a modern retro vibe, we were very interested in any vintage washes she could add to our photos. In addition to the regular shots, she provided our photos in both a vintage black and white and vintage color and they are gorgeous! She has a background in fashion photography and many of our photos came out looking like an Anthropologie ad. So beautiful. We did our engagement shots in GGP, and although we felt very awkward in front of the camera, Emily did a great job of making us feel (and look) relaxed. The wedding and reception were both indoors at night, and her photos were just as lovely. We didn't want many posed photos, so a majority of our photos are candid, which we felt best captured the day. As a result, our photos don't look like a collection of posed shots; they are a collection of feelings. Her prices are excellent for the Bay Area, and she is very prompt in returning emails. She's professional, unobtrusive, and flexible. Everyone kept telling us that the photos are one of the most important costs and we feel lucky to have had Emily. My wife and I recently hired Emily to take graduation-themed photos (both individual and couples) on Stanford's campus. We have worked with many other photographers in the past and always find it a little awkward - not so with Emily. She made us both feel super comfortable, even though I'm sure we were attracting stares from other students. I could not be any happier to have Emily as our engagement & wedding photographer. Both my wife and I are HUGE fans of art work by Emily Scannell. Her color pictures are PHENOMENAL - she knows exactly how to use the natural light, so colors come out so sincere. Emily takes the time and energy for perfection despite her busy schedule. After the shoot, she spends time optimizing each image and applies different effects and color washes, which she calls "Action" :-) My wife calls it "Magic". They look like what you would find in a magazine or an art gallery, and you wouldn't be shy to have it enlarged on your living room wall. I'm picky when it comes to photography, and I hate those traditional wedding straight-on shots, like bridal party in a line looking straight at the camera with fake smiles. Emily is very quick capturing her shots, but her personality is so mellow. She knows how to relax people and make them laugh. From angles, details and backgrounds, to our different facial expressions, she really knows how to capture the art in the moment. Some people may have a shot list or too many request for particular set up or place when working with photographers, but you should just trust Emily's creativity to get the perfect shots. We learned of Emily through a family friend that was married in August 2011. My husband and I planned our Santa Rosa wedding from Chicago where we live, and Emily worked around our schedule when we were in California.
