Found this church while driving through Sumter and fell in love. They are welcoming, have a great…read moremessage, tons of ways to get involved, and fantastic worship music. They have an awesome website (this is where I did most of my research) so I'd highly recommend checking it out and then coming by for a Sunday service. The services are at 9 am and 10:45 am.. lasting about 75 ish mins.

The wood is beautiful. all those this very old church is small I think there is an abunance of love and support here. There is a very old cemetary out back. The stained glass inside the sancturary seems to have family names at the bottom, I assume from the family who purchased it. I went to this church for the funeral of a dear family friend, and the women of the congregation made a wonderful lunch for us after the service.

Text from the national register historical marker (SC Marker Nr. 9-4): "1737-38, the elder Rev. John U. Giessendanner from Orangeburg began Lutheran work in this area; this was continued by his nephew until 1749. By the 1760s, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church near here was in use. A later building erected at this site in 1826 was replaced by the present church in 1900."
