Cork International Hotel is also walking distance from the Cork Airport. I had a huge suitecase, but I heard from other people at work that taxis will not take me to the hotel because it is so close. Sure enough, when I walked outside, I saw the hotel from the airport. The alternative to walking is waiting for the shuttle, but the shuttle only goes around every half hour. After debating for a little bit, I decide to just walk over. The walk was about 10 minutes, but if you have less luggage, I am sure you can get there in a shorter time I did. Once I got to the hotel, the front desk person was super nice. She let me check in early. The room itself was pretty spacious. I also like the fact that the walls were thick enough that I did not hear the room next door. The only thing that I did not like was the bathroom was sort of musty and smelly. I think it might be from the curtains or there is not enough ventilation in the bathrooms. I normally just closed my bathroom door to keep away from the smell. Aside from that, I had no complaints about the room. I got the room with the breakfast, so I wandered downstairs every morning. It was a pretty decent spread with all the basics. The only thing was it is sort of hard to find the chef who cooks the omlettes, pancakes, etc. Normally, when I stand around, one of the waiters would find the chef for me. Even though, I did not really have a choice on where I stayed for my business trip, I had no complaints about the hotel and would not mind staying here again.

One of our favorite stops was in Kinsale at The Old Presbytery. It was little nervewracking actually arriving there since it involved driving along Kinsale's RIDICULOUSLY narrow roads (see my photo of the front of their building - that is a two lane road!). But once we arrived we were extremely pleased with this unique and charming B&B. The owners were welcoming and wonderful, providing us with a hand drawn map of the town with recommendations of restaurants to try and things to do. They knew it was our honeymoon, and our bed had rose petals in the shape of a heart (see my photos) when we arrived. The room was large, with a separate sitting area and a small balcony overlooking their parking lot and the town. Our bathroom had one of those old fashioned, lion claw style bath tubs in addition to a shower. I, of course, had to make use of the tub! We did and saw a lot of things while in Ireland, but one of our best memories of the entire trip was buying cheap wine at the local Supervalue and drinking it on our room's balcony while watching the sun set. There was just something so relaxing and life affirming about that moment, smelling the peat smoke from nearby chimneys, listening to sea birds singing back and forth overhead. And of course, a review of a B&B can't be complete without rating the breakfast. This was also top notch. I had scrambled eggs made with local cheese which was so delicious. I posted a photo of the hubby's breakfast which included salmon in the shape of a rose (I know there is an actual name for this but I forget what it is). They also had this cereal & raisin soaked yogurt concoction that I've never had anywhere else, but sticks out in my mind to this day as being so uniquely delicious. If you're planning a stop in Kinsale, I highly recommend The Old Presbytery.

Neil welcomed my group of 13 with genuine warmth, & got us checked in to our 7 rooms. Our windows either faced the grazing sheep & lambs, or the lake & mountains. Swallows flew in & out of their mud nests on the eaves all day, and we could hear their tiny twitters. After checking in, we all headed down to the hotel bar where Neil introduced us to local stouts, ciders & vodka. My Stonewell Medium Dry Irish Craft Cider was DELICIOUS. He even showed us a picture of his grandparents in front of the original (much smaller than it is now) hotel, many decades ago. There is rich history proudly commemorated in the framed art lining the hallways - lots of stories in these walls! Dinner was amazing. We had seen Chef Katy's brown bread Youtube video, so it was a treat to meet her in person. She has daily dinner specials that highlight the fresh fish that comes in. We loved all our entrees, but the brown bread & this starter left several of us talking: Irish Cheese Salad, Local Gubbeen, Coolea Cheese, Cashel Blue Cheese, smoked bacon, roast walnuts, caramelized balsamic & orange dressing. Breakfast was a mixture of self service meusli, stewed prunes/apricots/figs, grapefruit supremes, scones & croissants, cold cereals, yogurts, Katy's delish brown bread, brown bread crackers & cheeses, juices & tea or coffee and a menu of hot items to order from. As a guest here, you will feel the deep peacefulness from being surrounded by nature, & from warm personalized service. When hearing that one of my group had become ill, Neil & his team went out of their way to make him as comfortable as possible, offering pitchers of filtered ice water, soup & brown bread, and tea & porridge to bring up to his room.
