Dr. Cahill was very kind and had a pleasant demeanor. The glasses selection seemed pretty good to me. A woman named Glinda helped me go through my insurance plan many times to figure out what would be most cost effective, proving her patience to be very high. read more

My fully insured 18 year old son went into the Slingerlands Vision works (formerly known as Empire Vision Centers) to get an eye exam in order to update the expired prescription for his daily wear contact lenses that he was comfortably wearing. He expressed his satisfaction for his current brand of lens with the Doctor. He placed him in a brand of contacts for his trial that exceeded our insurance by $300. You know, that bogus fitting they charge to your insurance that requires you to come back; despite being a lens wearer for years, having no change to the brand or the actual prescription. He was then asked to order those contacts (then and there before the trial "fitting" period was over) and to pay the $300. Being a bright kid, he walked out with his super duper expensive trial contacts and didn't order, although they threatened that he wouldn't be allowed to utilize his insurance allowance if he didn't order that day. I called and spoke to someone there and explained that he wanted his original brand of lens and that he was returning to college in two days, leaving one day to "trial" the brand he has been wearing for five years. Back we went, only to find out that they didn't have his brand to trial, but told us that he should continue the trial in the brand he had no intention of purchasing. So he had to return for an appointment the following day to assess his trial fitting before they would release his script. Ridiculous? Yes. Unethical? More than that it appears to be in violation of the Federal Contact Lens Rule. From the Federal Contact Lens Rule: If you are prepared to sell your patients contact lenses, however, you cannot refuse to give them a copy of their prescription on the grounds that their fitting isn't complete. If you're willing to sell them the lenses, that means their fitting is complete, and you must give them a copy of the prescription. By trying to scam him and up charge him for the lenses that day they violated the rule by not releasing the script and making him return for multiple appointments. If they are unethical in their business practices, do you trust them to assess your eye health or accurately prescribe? read more

I went in today for an eye exam after a couple of years of going somewhere else and I had a great experience! I was a little late but Mckayla took me right in and I saw the doctor within 10 minutes, I walked out with a great deal on glasses and could not be happier with the cost I will definitely be returning! read more

I rescheduled my appointment once because of my own conflict, and once because of their conflict. Not one of those 3 phone calls did they tell me I didn't have the proper forms for my insurance. It wasn't until I walked in for my appointment that they told me I had the option to pay out of pocket or wait for the forms to be submitted and approved and reschedule. They were not nice. They were not friendly. It's very poor business practice/customer service to have your paying customer drive all the way to the appointment to then be told that I had to pay out of pocket or come after forms were filled. Took 45 minutes out of my day for this... Will not be returning. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Many times I have gone and sat in the waiting room for a minimum of 2 hours. Recently I had a 3:00 appointment to pick up my glasses. Due to COVID 19, I had to make an appointment just to pick them up, so this visit was not unplanned. When I walked in the office there were 2 men behind the counter and I was the only person in the waiting room. The Manager came over to me and apologized and said they got very busy in the morning and as a result, the technician took a late lunch. I asked what that meant and the manager told me that there wasn't anyone available to give me my new glasses and adjust them. He told me he would give me my glasses and hoped they would fit. As all businesses are behind in their work, I had to make an appointment 3 weeks out just to pick up my glasses. The point of doing this was to ensure they fit correctly. I asked him why he did not call me and tell me to come in later so I did not drive to the store for nothing, to this he had no answer. I then asked him if I was the only appointment for pick-up at 3:00 and he told me yes. I then asked him if I was the only 3:00 appointment how hard would it have been to call me as there were 2 people sitting there doing nothing. He then just sat there and stared at me with no solution. I told him I needed my glasses today as I was returning to work. He told me to come back at 4:30 - so does everyone at Visionworks take a 90 minute lunch? I asked if he could call me when the person came back, he did not want to. I said I should be the first person the technician sees upon return as I had a 3:00 appointment, again he told me to come back at 4:30. I realize things happen and schedules do not go as we hope. However, there was no excuse for not making a phone call and changing the time once they realized there would not be anyone there to help me at 3:00. It is rude and inconsiderate to let someone drive all the way to the store just to tell them there isn't anyone there to help them. In the age of cell phones this should never happen. I have been with this store since they were Empire Vision and the customer service during the past year, especially today, has become completely horrible and unfriendly. Take my advise - go to Walmart - they are much more pleasant and accommodating. read more

Incompetent. Had an exam and lenses prescribed. When they came in, they were totally wrong - I could see better without them. The associate measured them to see if they filled as prescribed, and found they were. I was asked if I wanted another exam, not available for WEEKS and I declined. They reversed the charges to my insurance EXCEPT the exam, which has to be redone. Fortunately ins co will authorize another exam. read more

Love this place. Such friendly staff and great service. Dr. Cahill is very friendly and knowledgeable and they all made the process fun, quick, and easy. No one to haggle me into buying things I don't want. read more

You get the feeling that not one person working there in the front if the store wants to be there even a little bit. When you walk in you feel like you've interrupted something important. I was only there for safety glasses that my job pays for. No chance of me ever leaving my current Eye Dr for this place. read more

I will not deal with this place again, which is unfortunate as they are a provider for my insurance, but the staff here is terrible and it's no surprise that glenda the manager is awful too. They tried to take advantage of my 21 year old daughter by charging her (me) $248.00 for contacts that were covered by my plan. When i called to correct the matter they kept putting me on hold for 10+ minutes, When i finally got to speak with glenda and set up a time to come into the store to talk w/ her she wasn't there and called in from the road to say she was on her way. NEVER once did anyone apologize for their behavior. Susan, who's claim to fame was she has worked there for 14 years sat like a bump on a log and kept saying" it's not my fault/ job" Hasn't she learned a lot in 14 years. Do your self a favor visionworks and give glenda & suzannne the boot. read more

Terrible! I go to pick up my glasses today, and suddenly the guy who's trying to find them tells and associate he has to go to the Price Chopper. No explanation or an apology to me. Another staffer sees I'm agitated and after she deigns to help me, tells me to relax. This place is the worst. read more

Horrible! Customer service sucks. No order. I write this as I wait and other people were taken ahead of me.

They really have no clue what's going on. They are yelling at each other while they are there and had to look at my insurance 3+ times to get my co-payment right. Was there for almost two hours because I had to wait for the person who does glasses to get back from who knows. read more

I agree wholeheartedly with all of the 1 star reviews posted. Empire Vision Slingerlands is the absolute worst consumer experience. The people working there are always so grumpy and unhelpful plus they are so unknowledgeable about not just your insurance but their products!! They simply add up their overpriced services and then sit back waiting for you to pay. My insurance requires me to go here and each time I feel like I am bothering the rep if I dare ask any questions re: coverage or options. They are soooo unhelpful! I am also certain that they have outright lied to me concerning services/options. If you can go elsewhere do it, they are grumpy, overpriced and offer zero consumer care. AVOID. read more

I had the worst experience ever at this place. I never really complain and I totally get retail businesses, doctors offices etc. However I was going to be late and called to let them know, and I even offered to cancel my appointment if it was going to be a problem. The woman who answered didn't want to be bothered and her tone implied I was really putting her out. She did however, say if I arrived in the next 10 minutes they will try to hold it. Google maps told me I had 10 minutes. With traffic I was about 12 minutes late, and as I walked in I even said am I still OK for the appointment. The woman said I would have to check with the doctor but made me fill out all the bloody paperwork that comes along for a place that's not even a doctors office. After she checked with the doctor and clearly saw I was still filling out the paperwork, as I was one of the few only customers in the building, she failed to tell me that I wasn't going to get my appointment today. I was irritated not because I was late, I totally get that that was my fault, but I had given them plenty of opportunities to say no let's rebook this and they played me like a fiddle to the very end filling out that bloody paperwork and then said "oh no not today we're not seeing you." The thing that's remarkable is that I usually spend a lot of money at I places because I have to and I'm willing to. I will make it a point to never go back to the Delmar vision Works ever again because they are so rude and can't be inconvenienced. read more

Hours before my daughter's scheduled eye exam they called and cancelled. Foolishly, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and made an appointment for myself. I called early in the morning to make sure I had the time correct and the receptionist told me there were not appointments today because the optometrist is still out of town and didn't I get their message on Saturday. Jeez no I didn't! Meanwhile I booked this appointment over a week ago and needed it desperately to get my contact lens prescription renewed to order new contacts.
