I am a Chief Officer here in San Diego County with over 25 years on the job. I attended this class recently for reasons not relevant to my review. This is a great school, if you want to be challenged and really learn solid EMT skills plus be well prepared for the NREMT test, this is the place. It is not easy, but when you are a student here, they take great pride in your education. Being a Chief we are constantly evaluating whether we want to or not, it is in our DNA. When I was in a lecture or in the class room for practical skill assessments I was evaluating the staff. One word sums up my assessment of them....impressive. My daughter paid $14,000 to go to this school. She failed a quiz by 3 points and she has some trouble with her B's and D's so they probably mistook some answers. Never did they even call her back to ask her about her answers. I think this school just wants the money. Not in it for the people. Which is sad. I attended Emsta every two years for my EMT recertification. I did my recert here for twenty years and I was always impressed with the level of professionalism of everyone involved from the instructors to the administrative staff. I did at times need some one on one help, which was always provided without issue. These folks bend over backwards to make sure you know your stuff. When it comes to the National Registry test, Emsta gives you all the information you need to pass, but because of the way the National test is designed and worded to try and trip you up, you'll still need to get two or three different prep test books and do them all a couple times and you'll be ready. I spent about a week after graduation doing the tests in three different prep books and I passed the first time. But it still wasn't easy! read more

I was a Navy Corpsman for eleven years, and an EMT-B for that time frame as well. I went to EMSTA to discuss enrolling in their paramedic program. The woman at the front desk informed me that my military experience isn't adequate because "over there we don't work with children." When I informed her that in fact there are children in Afghanistan, and The U.S. military does medically treat them her response was "Yeah but you know what I mean, like real people". Their paramedic program requires students to interview for acceptance, and I really didn't want to explode in their office. I politely finished our conversation and left. Now I just want to give my brothers and sisters out there a heads up on how disgusting this school is. Don't waste your hard earned GI-Bill here. read more

Great instructors, well organized classes and great passing rates. However, my biggest complaint is the front deck ladies. They have major attitudes, amateur record keeping, and overall poor customer service. They are stand-offish and always on their phones. They reply with "Are you serious?" when students ask questions about their enrollment, among other snooty remarks. They must be hired because they're family or friends to the owner because they don't seem appropriate for reception/customer service. It was almost a deterrent for enrollment. read more

A few points here. One, you only get out what you put in. For those that say it wasn't worth the money or the class didn't prepare you properly to pass the National Registry, its just classic excuses because you did not put in the requisite time for study and preparation. Second, if you are serious about taking the 8 week course, do yourself a favor and sign up for the day class because my prior instructor, Stacey Myers is the man. He is a seasoned practitioner and instructor that has the knowledge you are looking for. As for the ladies manning the front desk area, they were nothing but helpful and competent. I had no complaints. My only real suggestion would be to increase clinical skills time with the instructors. And I must say that learning under my clinical instructor Chris Winters was challenging, frustrating and rewarding because he demanded excellence while putting us through our paces. I can say with all honesty, EMSTA college was a great experience and I learned valuable skills to help further my career. Thank you EMSTA! read more

I chose EMSTA for my EMT education in summer 2015, and have returned for paramedic school, and have received only the best attention. The teachers here are currently in the field, well experienced, and know what they're talking about. The facility is open 24/7 for paramedic students to practice all hours of the day. The equipment is up to date, and the teachers genuinely care if you understand a concept. read more

I really enjoyed my time at EMSTA College. The instructors make sure everyone is onboard and will stay after to help you catch up if you're behind. Everyone there makes you feel important and they care about your success. I was really nervous to start my class but Stephanie and Jenna took me on a tour of the school to make me more comfortable. They always offer everyone snacks and candy which is a plus! I highly recommend EMSTA College. read more

The program started out 'OK.' There have been minor hiccups through out the course. The primary instructor switch to using the old version of the power point slides instead of the ones associated with the version of the book we purchased. This created some confusion as some of the stuff had changed. This is the last week before finals and we were introduced a new concept on the second day before finals after being taught something different the entire course. The staff couldn't find the item for us to practice this new concept with. Their response "oh well." So on the last day before our National Registry Exam, we are going to learn/practice this new concept because the new EMT coordinator is requiring it (the previous guy quit, yet the majority of the staff seems to be unaware of these). Although during the first couple weeks I would have recommended this course. I can't recommended this school anymore. The "TA's" need to all meet and get on the same page. My class is taking notes on all their "preferred ways" to tailor the way we do things to their style incase we get them on testing day. It should be the same regardless of "TA." read more

Emsta is the best place to be trained for EMS. The girls in the main office are always friendly and extremely helpful. Staff is always there to help and make it a great learning environment. I wouldn't think to go anywhere else for my education. read more

I was a student here taking the 16 week EMT class. I really enjoyed most of my instructors and the class was put together very well. It taught you what you need to know. It directly corresponded with the book. The only thing I would recommend would to put the extra $100 for national registry skills testing as part of the tuition it definitely caught students off guard. Other then that it was an awesome school. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the EMT program. read more

Everyday is a disorganized mess. Something has changed in the past couple months. Every instructor you have interprets the skills manual different, meaning you are told to do stuff differently every class. Majority of TA's are either rude/complete dicks or don't pay attention and play on their phones during lab days. read more

My son attended this college for his emt program and paramedic program. I would highly recommend this school to anyone, they are very professional and have a excellent program along with a dedicated staff. I was a student there, and while the class itself was great the instructors left a lot of info out. It wasn't until the last day of class that we were informed of what additional fees we would be spending to become licensed (after a $1000 class) and they were misinformed. We were told we needed certificates that we really didn't which took more money out of our pockets. Also, they have a week long workshop afterwards that is only 9-5 which does nothing to help those who were initially taking the night classes because of work. Lastly, because all these fees are so expensive it took me a while to afford the help an instructor offered, at which point I was told I did not act promptly enough to receive his help. At this point, I'd have been better off taking a regular college course for 1/3 the price. I understand the motto is time+effort= success, but when you don't have all the information or money necessary then you're screwed out of success. read more

I was a student here, the teachers were great, very helpful and the textbook was very useful. I did end up leaving the program before the end, to pursue nursing instead only because I didn't want to work saving lives for $9 an hour, but that had nothing to do with the school. I really think Emt's deserve more than almost min wage, people that get guard cards online can work at seaworld making $12 an hr with no real experience, yet Emt's have to start at a low pay and no one who does pay more than $11 will hire you unless you have at least one to two years paid experience. I really do think it was a great school, with great instructors. I really feel like the workshop class should just be included with the regular class even if the tuition goes up, it just makes more sense to group it together. I wish they had more classes close to South San Diego, I feel these instructors genuinely care about you. read more

Hands down, best learning atmosphere I've experienced in the 18 years of my education. I took Anatomy & Physiology here, currently enrolled in Paramedic Prep, and will interview for the July Paramedic Course at the end of this month. Before my current enrollment at EMSTA, I attended and graduated from a UC university and attended several vocational and EMS training colleges to pursue my EMS career. I can honestly say that EMSTA has provided me with the greatest all around educational experience thus far. First of all, the place is coated with inspirational quotes and pictures that creates a really positive vibe throughout the entire place. Even more impressive, however, is the amazing energy and enthusiasm modeled by the entire staff at EMSTA. I can almost guarantee that you will not find a greater group of instructors and staff anywhere out there. The instructors are readily available and go out of there way to make time for you, which is something I have rarely experienced. Throughout my experience, the front office staff has been amazingly helpful. Getting an actual human on the phone at any other college is literally impossible. The front office staff at EMSTA has totally helped me through any scheduling or financial issues I have encountered since I have been a student here and is always super friendly and just very helpful. If you are considering attending EMSTA for any of the courses they offer, I highly recommend it. Even if your just curious about the program just call them up and you'll see what I mean. read more
