On entering the car park I saw signs saying the car park was $5 per hour (more on that in a bit). I managed to park near the entrance and entered what looks like an underground bunker. No queues and admission for one adult and one child was $13. They took my parking ticket and validated it for 4 hours free parking - result! The centre is very impressive with a large Olympic pool to the left of you with the high diving boards. On the right is another pool and the kids area. Lockers are $2 per use, each time you open and close them will cost you $2. Changing rooms were a bit bizarre. There were 4 family rooms that you could lock but they were huge and very wet! There were other changing rooms open to anyone but the showers could have done with regular inspections. There was chewing gum and toilet paper on the floor. Shame! Onto the swimming and fun! There is a huge area just right for young kids to play around in the water with plenty of fountains and little slides to play on. Every 10 minutes or so the huge bucket would tip over and drench everyone underneath it. All the kids would make sure they were positioned ready to get soaked. To the right was a lazy river which went round in a huge circle. It was really strong and my daughter loved it. Up above it was a fairly fast slide which my daughter also loved. There is a height limit of 120cm for the slide. All in all, great afternoon of fun. Changing rooms could do with an attendant to keep them nice and clean.

So yes, it can get a bit boring, seeing as it's not the most fast paced of activities - hence why it's generally played by the elder generation - but it does help if you're in a decent location to play and I don't think you can do much better than Clovelly Bowling Club when it comes to that. Basically, it's set right on the edge of the cliff, so much so that if there was a landslide in the area, I probably wouldn't be heading down there for a game the next day. The view is magnificent, which helps when the game gets a bit dull, and who doesn't like drinking with a view!? The beer selection is limited, but has the standard ones at decent bowlo prices, while there are gas BBQs next to the greens, which you're free to use. So we did. Ball rental is included in the price of the game (although to be honest, I can't remember how much that was!). So if you're planning some bowls-based party, give this place a go - although you may want to check the weather forecast first, I imagine bad weather would be rather unforgiving up there!

I won't go out of my way to come back here, but might come back if I were in the area already.

Fitting golf around work is never easy and so swinging in somewhere quite so convenient on the the way in or out is a good option. The course itself is reasonable - quite short, but hills that provide some added challenge and a notable water feature on the 6th. Some of the greens are a bit furry and the bunkers could do with some high-tide sand wash, but this is a public course and you're only paying $19 for the privilege. To reach the Clubhouse, you have to navigate a back lane off Park Avenue, and the carpark is squeezy at the best of times. The Pro-shop sells all the necessities, and lots of kids learn their fairway basics on the practice area across the ninth hole (yep, be careful here). Above the Pro-shop club rooms and a function centre are blessed with terrific views across the northern suburbs - especially beautiful at night when the lights are on.

Cammeray is the Augusta National of Sydney…read more Most of its contemporaries are scrubby courses fighting off the encroach of native bushland where any ball hit off-fairway is as lost as lost can be, yet Cammeray boasts long, hilly, beautifully trimmed fairways, silken greens and friendly trees. Some of the holes aren't so much holes as they are sylvan glades; I half expect some of the trees to start talking Ent-style on several of them. The first hole is a doozy . . . right in front of the clubhouse with everyone watching you, you tee off from an eagle's eyrie high up in the sky with the fairway stretching out below you like a magic carpet. Don't duff the tee shot else all the members will laugh at you. With that said, if you nail it and it sails straight and true up into the stratosphere, you can hold your backswing in place while a chorus of appreciative sea-lion grumbles of approval roll over you from the peanut gallery. Man that's a good feeling.

This place used to be a dumping ground in the old days and has been transformed into a gorgeous park. Sydney Park includes a series of visually prominent hills which provide panoramic views of the city skyline and Sydney Airport. There is a massive skate park, kids play areas and some of the heritage of this area has also been preserved nicely. Loved going here with our dog.

Sydney Park…read more Identifiable from the historical heritage listed brickworks chimneys from the days when the area used to be the brickworks for Sydney, it's a vast green area that is perfect for any recreational activity. Lovely open green areas perfect for walking the dog, and a large kids playground equipped with a large sandpit, climbing frames, swings and slides, it's got everything a kid needs to explore, play and wear themselves out. There's a challanging skate park, and a learn to ride bike area for the kids. There's also a sports oval where I believe a local Sydney grade cricket team plays during the summer months. Lush green grass is plentiful, and perfect for a picnic. Climb up the steep hills and you will find yourself with views stretching to the City and lower North Shore in the north, to the Aiport and Brighton le Sands region in the South, and on clear sunny days, free of smog and polloution you can glimpse the sprawling Blue Mountains and Great Dividing Range. Whether you're jogging or cycling through for a bit of quick fitness, or spending the day relaxing, it's a fantastic park with plenty of amenities. One downside is the toilets aren't the cleanest, and probably need more attention especially during weekend periods. There's a small cafe just outside the childrens play area which serves a good range of coffees and light meals. I'm sure in time that'll get a review on it's own. But with two young kids, it's going to be a regular destination for myself. And with walking distance to King St, Newtown, I'm sure there's plenty of opportunities for a cheeky beer or two in one of the many pubs and bars located along the strip. Or, if you're my wife, plenty of (window) shopping.

Then there is a huge slide complex with some very cool looking slides. There is a flying fox, and other area with activities suitable for smaller children. Highly recommend!
