We walked in, without appointment and were able to hire a car with no deposit. Of course, they took Visa card details so that we would be charged should anything go wrong. For around £60 or so we were able to hire a car for a few days. Whilst this was excellent in a pinch, it was more expensive than some of the other local options. Our main reason for going with them was the fact no deposit was required, but since have gone with other firms so as to save a bit of money. Plus, being the bottom line cheapest car, it wasn't the greatest choice. Still, if you're suddenly in need of transportation - it is still a cheaper and easier option than other rentals, and certainly cheaper than last minute train fares!

There was a deposit of £150 plus a small admin charge, and the excess is £500 although an extra £6 brings that down a bit. The deposit takes about a week to get back to you, which isn't mentioned anywhere on the website and is a bit bizarre. They do do u-25s though I think. The van was (I think) a mk7 Ford Transit with a 2.2 Diesel, which is as civilised to drive as anything else on the market and has reams of power. The van itself was pretty dinged up but the guy did a thorough walk-around before hand and marked it all down, and there was nothing wrong with it mechanically. You get the van empty of diesel and you're meant to return it empty. The only issue we had is that it shuts at midday on Saturday and doesn't open until Monday, so if you need a van for Saturday you either pay a full day's rate for 8am-12pm or pay for 2 days. We only needed it for a half day so we did the former, and although they were half an hour late opening they said they'd stay open later for us, which was decent of them. Happy with the service. Run down looking place but they're nice guys with a bit of chat and I didn't feel like they were ripping us off. Loses a star for the strange opening times and deposit situation.

I would recommend making a reservation with them though, to ensure they will be open and have your choice of car in stock. I think that working from the airport, where there are a number of other car hire operators means that the prices are kept quite competitive. The staff are pretty helpful and can usually arrange to sort out your car if your flight is delayed.

Luckily though, Nadine at Hertz was waiting for her clients! She called a taxi for us and allowed us to contact the after-hrs desk at Enterprise so we could arrange to get our car (which was already paid for) the next morning. Kudos to Nadine and Hertz for looking out for stranded travelers!

Had a terrible experience at the Low Road (Leeds city) Europcar branch. We have recently moved to…read moreLeeds and pre-paid for a car for four days to go to Edinburgh. We walked from home to the branch with the things you would expect to need - credit card, driver's licence, etc. When they ran the credit card, for whatever reason their system couldn't confirm our address. (Why is this even a thing? Surely it's good that random store clerks can't find out your address from your credit card?) But they refused to give us the car without proof of address. They were singularly unhelpful - we had a letter from the bank with us, on letterhead, with our name and address on it, but they wouldn't accept it. We offered to email a utility bill to them that they could print out but they 'were not allowed to'. All we could do was go home, get a bill and walk all the way back there. It was infuriating and wasted about two hours. What a weird policy - I have never experienced this before, even when hiring from Europcar in continental Europe. I have no idea what you would do if you were a tourist in that situation. I told them they need to at least warn people about this policy but they seemed completely disinterested in improving their customer service. I'll be avoiding them if possible in the future. Service from Enterprise at the train station was much better.

They do open Weekends but usually only in the morning unless they have a booking from a flight later on in the day. Also, becasue cars are booked in advance by people flying in, it is better to book in advance, to make sure they will be open and have your car in stock. The staff are really frinedly and helpful and can usually arrange to come in and meet you or soty something out so you can still get your car if your flight is late.

Ironically, as it is situated on an industrial area in Hunslet you do need a car to reach the office in order to hire a vehicle - but it is a short taxi ride from the train station if you do not have one. The office is quite small, but it serves it's purpose and the staff are very helpful and polite. In order to hire a van you do need documentation - your full driver's licence, a recent utility bill (to prove your address details) and you also need to provide your debit or credit card details and place a small (ours was £50) deposit, assumingly to cover any small accidents you might have (we didn't have any problems and got ours back less than 10 minutes after returning the van). The quality of the vehicles is excellent; our van was clean, in good condition and easy to drive. At £50 for the day it was a lot cheaper way of moving house as opposed to a professional move company and of course we were responsible for our goods, which was reassuring. The small transit we took more than suited our needs and held a 2 seater sofa easily. As we had the van all day we were able to also take it to IKEA which was very handy as normally they charge for delivery for items you cannot fit in your car. Service and price I will give 5/5 for and I will be happy to use them again when I move house in a fortnight.

BAD - BAD SERVICE!!! My friend booked a taxi at 10:50 pm on…read moreFriday 22nd November, from Knaresborough to home in Harrogate. We were told that the taxi would be 5 minutes and to wait outside, which we did in freezing temperatures. In spite of three further phone calls it took a total of more than 35 minutes to arrive. We are both in our 70's and vulnerable to the extreme cold (in fact it is now snowing (morning after Saturday 23rd November) The taxi driver told us that he was dispatched from a call centre in India!! Shame on you BLUELINE. I am a Harrogate resident and have been a loyal customer for over 15 years, but will now be changing my allegiance to another Harrogate Taxi Company. Shame on you again Blueline - You need to be truthful to customers and give them true pick up times to save them almost freezing to death. Take my advice - don't use BLUELINE TAXIS because they are unreliable and give unrealistic pick up times!!!! BEWARE.

In fact they are not, they are on Coney Park estate, which is sort of across from the airport and up the road a bit (towards Harrogate). When you find Coney Park they are quite easy to locate. Also though they will often come to you and collect you or meet you with the car or van. They will meet you from your flight at Leeds Bradford Airport if you are sure to tell them all your flight details. They do both cars and vans and are fairly competitively priced.
