I read and heard great things about Gavin so that's who we went with They are open Wednesday to Sunday I believe. I called on a Monday and left a voicemail, Gavin called me Wednesday and we made an appointment for the 12th! The day came and the shop was pretty easy to find. The Parking situation isn't ideal, but it's nothing that would keep me from coming here. When we came in to be honest it wasn't a super friendly environment, it felt like the people who were working there were almost bothered by us coming in. Aside from feeling kind of unwelcome, we got started on the paperwork while Gavin was finishing up with another client. The paperwork was easy to understand and didn't take too long to go through. Then Gavin showed us the jewelry options, there were plenty to choose from and he was very knowledgeable of all of them. I decided I'd like to go first. He prepped his station and we were ready to go. The Shen men piercing can be helpful for anxiety management because it goes on a pressure point. The specific pressure point can be slightly different for everyone. Gavin took his time to test and find just the right spot for each of us. Very thorough, respectful, and kind. He explained every step of the process which definitely helped us all feel more comfortable. He cleaned his station after each one of us and was very professional the entire time. I love my piercing! I feel like the service itself was priced fairly and Gavin made it a great experience. I would recommend Gavin to anyone and everyone! If I ever plan to get another piercing, I will be back here without a doubt.

She tailors the piercing to the shape of your anatomy, the type of jewelry you will be wearing and even the function (if the septum needed to be hidden sometimes for any reason) In talking with her, I even got the sense that she would have talked to us about options if she thought that we didn't have the correct anatomy for the piercings that we wanted. Even though this shop is a drive for me, I will go back to here for any future piercings.

I booked a day-of appointment for a tiny tattoo. It was an important anniversary and they were nice…read moreenough to squeeze me in because the tattoo was a simple line and wouldn't take more than 5 minutes. They booked me for 9 pm. It was well past 2 AM by the time we finally got back. And the tattoo artist wouldn't stop talking and so it took a full 45 minutes to do this one centimeter line (that was the whole tattoo.) The artist said she liked staying late so that she wouldn't go back to her old habits, which made it feel like she'd intentionally made us wait so she wouldn't be alone at night. We weren't done until 3 am. That's 6 hours past 9 pm when we were scheduled. The second we were back there she launched into telling us all the traumatic things she's experienced. I work in mental health- I definitely understand trauma. And there's no doubt she's had some unfair horrible things happen to her. But I was already in an emotional state (given the symbolism behind the tattoo) and it was really hard to be trauma dumped on. Especially without warning. Trauma dumping is so unfair and a lot of what she said triggered my own trauma. She deserves healing for what she went through but her clients aren't her therapist. She's talented and I think has a genuinely good heart but I felt like she didn't take my time or emotions seriously. It felt like I was being used for her own benefit. I had free touch ups so I tried to schedule one (despite my better judgement) and I've attached the photos of the conversation we had. She never even responded. TL;DR- I paid $60 for a tattoo that should have taken 5 minutes but instead took 6 hours.

Upon searching for a close local tattoo shop, I came across The Tattoo Shop, Orem. It was just a…read morefew blocks from my house. Online read they were a family friendly shop that strive to surpass the expectations of clients. I was impressed by that so I messaged them an image of what I wanted and asked for a quoted price. They were prompt to get back to me with a quote of $80 because what I wanted was small and that was the minimum. Seemed fair to me I scheduled for the following day. This was my first tattoo and I was a little nervous and did not know what to expect. When I arrived at the store there were a few people hanging out outside that greeted me and asked me to go on in and fill out the paperwork. Entering the establishment I felt it was clean and professional. After showing the artist what I wanted again and where I wanted it he quoted me $100. I was a little taken back by that. I felt he really was taking advantage of me because he know I was scared and that it was my first time. I agreed to it and waited for him to prepare for me. While waiting they turned music on in the building that was far from inviting. It was rap of some sort and every other word seemed to be the "N" word. My artist was ready for me and I agreed to the drawing and location. He prepared the area and began. I was surprised that it did not hurt whatsoever. He made me feel comfortable and it was pretty quick work. I think I was there in and out in 30 minutes. Aftercare instructions were vague but that was okay with me because I had a lot of family with tattoos that could help me out. I am happy with my tattoo but if ever I get a second, I will go somewhere a little more reputable.

He made me feel confident in his abilities and relaxed so the experience was more enjoyable than painful. He explained what and why he was doing what he was and made it clear as to what to expect there and after during the healing process. He has a fun personality which always helps. I asked him for ideas on what I could do to add color to it in the future and he gave me some great ideas as well as a suggestion on how he could do the larger more expensive ideas in steps instead of all at once so I could save along the way instead of coming up with a large sum to do it all at once. He was absolutely amazing to work with and will be my artist for future tattoos I want to get. The shop overall is nicely laid out and has a fun atmosphere.
