Admission is completely free, and it is a great place for people to learn about the history of the local area. There is a fine collection of porcelain celebrating the cities links with Royal Crown Derby, a military gallery, wildlife displays, an archaeology gallery, and an exhibit reconstructing Bonnie Prince Charlies visit to the city on his way to claim the English thrown. The museum is also home to many of Joseph Wrights paintings. Joseph Wright was born in the city and was a celebrated 18th century artist. The gallery has the largest collection of the artist's work anywhere in the world. This museum is highly recommended.

The store looks a little small from the outside but extends some way into the back. A dedicated class/workroom is at the back of the store for classes and workshops.

They have a mixture of exhibitions from paintings, sculptures and live performances. The open day was really good, they had various workshops on including belly dancing and henna painting, it was a well attended event. The events/exhibitions are free and its open every day of the week. They've also got a cafe bar where you can grab a coffee or bite to eat (more snack type foods rather than proper meals), all of which are reasonably priced. The outside of the building looks really cosmopolitan and makes this place a delight to visit

They have a good range of paperback fiction, but particularly good are the general interest books such as gardening and cooking. Although the range is very limited (and the standard of books aren't always great, given that no-one else wanted to buy them either), you can sometimes find a great book, particularly hardback reference books- for a hugely reduced price. They do also sell art and crafts- blank canvases and paints etc, but I found that it's cheaper to buy them from somewhere like Home Bargains.

They have a reduced section at the top of the store which has mostly costume jewellery but makes fab xmas presents if you buy a new funky box which they sell too. The staff are particularly helpful if you are choosing a colour scheme , they will come up with some great ideas so make sure you ask if you are stuck. The only complaint i have is there are not enough tills, particularly at busy times like christmas and sometimes the queues are almost to the end of the shop, so beware if you are in a rush.
