However, my good lady wife does occasionally shuffle herself around the streets of Beverley so when it comes to presents I often take myself here. Being completely ignorant about running I put myself in the hands of the proprietor who never fails to get me exactly what my wife wants. Which makes us all very happy. OK it's pricier than the internet but once you add shipping and take into account the fact that a numpty like me would end up ordering the wrong thing, this shop is excellent value.

J D Sports is part of the large chain of the same name. This branch is quite a spacious branch, and is easily accessible for both wheelchairs and prams. The store is also quite easy to find, as it is visible from most other floors. This branch stocks all types of sports clothing, most of which are the branded sport names- Adidas, Nike, Pumaa. They also sell a lot of clothing by a brand named Mackenzie- this isn't as big a name as the others, but it is still fairly popular and good quality, although slightly overpriced as I think most sportswear tends to be. J D Sports has a decent selection of trainers in stock, again of all the higher brands. There rainers are always excellent quality, and last well, but I find that this store sometimes over prices them slightly.

Millington Wood is a mature reserve tucked away near the village of Millington in the East Riding…read moreof Yorkshire at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds. The Wood is open all year round to enjoy, there is a circular walk of about 2 miles which takes you through the ancient woodland and at the very top offers some spectacular views across the rolling hills and fields of the Yorkshire Wolds countryside. The path is very steep in places and sturdy footwear is required. The wood is home to many species fo animals, you may spot bat boxes on several of the trees as you walk round, the East Riding of Yorkshire countrysise events team organise bat box events where you can go and learn more about the types of bats living at Millington. There are also owls that can be seen and heard in the early evenings and Roe Deer at the very top of the Wood which you can sometimes spot moving around in the twilight. Millington is also home to a large charcoal kiln and the wood is actively managed to produce charcoal for use locally. Sometimes you may be lucky enough to visit when the smoke is rising from the chimneys around the kiln! There is plenty of free parking and an information board at the entrance. The wood is well signposted from Pocklington.

Allerthorpe Lakeland Park is a water sports centre with all the usual canoes, kayaks,…read morerow boats, windsurfing etc etc but there are also some lovely lakeside walks, play area and a really good cafe. Didn't know it existed until I passed it looking for a small business in Allerthorpe. I'll be travelling back here with my family for the day. There also appears to be caravan and camping site next to the lake. Wildlife at your feet too! Brilliant!!

The Centre is very well equipped for people with mobility problems and the staff are very disabilitly aware. The pool has both a slope for wheelchair users, and wide, shallow stairs with handrails as well as the usual ladder steps. The pool staff are well trained when it comes to all customers, they will do their very best to help you. The gym staff are exceptionally friendly too, knowledgeable and go the extra mile, ensuring you are on the right gym programme and that you can attend as many classes as possible. There are additional classes that are very suitable for people who are restricted to a sitting position or have problems with standing up exercises such as armchair aerobics. Hornsea Leisure Centre has a good car park and free car parking can be claimed for up to three hours for those attending the Leisure Centre. There is a bus stop just outside the Leisure Centre with hourly buses back to Beverley or Hull ect. A fantastic little gem of a Leisure Centre, that should be the flagship for East Riding of Yorkshire in my opinion, the staff are enthusiastic and have a can do attitude which makes a visit to the gym/swim much more less daunting for the nervous, those with disabilities or phobias and those with young families. Highly recommended.

There are large expanses of woodland which is lovely just to stroll through, as well as duck ponds, ornamental ponds and a deer park. In summer the minature stream train runs. There is a cafe that sells good food and snacks at good prices. Big problem is the price of entry, which is extortionate.
