When she became licensed, started her own practice and moved away, I lost access so stopped going to therapy for about a decade. After a recent year long search through my insurance w/0 luck, I decided to check back in w/ Marina counseling center, and after about a week I was matched up with a therapist who I am equally happy and doing great work with. They have a stellar vetting process for who they allow to work there, and their therapists also study under more experienced and educated therapists, so you get many checks and balances for your mental health. In all honesty, the therapists going for their degrees through Marina counseling center have far surpassed a number of "licensed" therapists that I was matched up with through my insurance, who I can only assume were licensed through degree mills. I would trust any therapist working here over anyone found in the wild, any day, and they also charge on a sliding scale, which is super helpful when you're paying out of pocket/on a fixed income.

But unfortunately, I experienced a very traumatizing event caused by the clinic's director, Joshua Greene. I tried multiple times to ask for a phone conversation or face to face meeting to try to reach a resolution that wouldn't leave me utterly scarred after the situation, but Mr. Greene replied only with evasive, disingenuous language clearly meant to eradicate himself of any responsibility. I was not willing to go to the Board of Psychology with this incident because that required giving up my privacy. The experience has unfortunately left me shaken - and very uncomfortable with the realization that a mental healthcare professional could have such disregard for causing anguish to someone seeking support at his clinic.

I decided to get help with eating and food issues and just general early 20's angst and terror. I went on yelp, called her, she called me back right away and she became my first therapist! My relationship to food, my body, and myself quickly improved. She is so talented as a therapist but she's also highly skilled with guided meditation and hypnosis and I always found the sessions more and more interesting, deep, and helpful as time went on. She is incredibly sincere and loving but also a no bullshit therapist which I really appreciated! She became an invaluable guide along my path to having the life I always dreamed of having but couldn't quite pull it off. I consider myself lucky to have found her so early on in my life and will always be grateful for the heart and wisdom she added to my life every week.

Like a sherpa helping me trek the heights of my fears, anxieties, and insecurities, she's guided me to the summit where I stared my neuroses face down. She helped me to recognize that I didn't need my ex, but was transferring fears of male abandonment from my father dying when I was young. To stop bemoaning what I don't have and focus on what I do have -- which is a lot. She's given me the confidence to find a great job with more responsibility and to cut off the negative elements in my life. And she even encouraged me to go to my first DYL, which is where I met all you wonderful people. (True, DYLs have not always been the scene of my prouder moments, but I've needed to let my hair down. And when I pick it back up again, she's not there to judge, but to help me examine why.) In the New Year, I have the opportunity of a lifetime, for me to continue development, to individuate, to explore. It's like I'm standing on the edge of a cliff and I can choose to either a) be pushed off, b) let it slowly erode over time and crumble, or c) take a swan dive and soar. I couldn't have taken any of these steps without her.

However, because of the nature of the work that Dana Iscoff is privy to, it would feel really irresponsible not to warn other parents. I will simply quote a quote of another review (that's right 3 of us saying this) that really nails our experience with Dana : 'The woman has no boundaries, is arrogant, obnoxious and narcissistic'. I will add sexist and absolutely disengaged. If you have any desire to co-parent amicably, that will not happen with Dana. If you have any desire to work with someone who cares at all about the children involved, do NOT work with Dana. She is self-involved, inconsistent, and seems most concerned with collecting financial retainers. Stay away. Her reviews speak for themselves- she has the lowest reviews of an Ma/MFT in San Francisco- in SAN FRANCISCO, therapist Mecca. Im only writing this because her first impression is pretty solid but it immediately devolves and I am hoping to spare other couples/parents- otherwise Id never bother with this.

I recently had a reading with Val, where she managed to create the most meaningful and healing bridge between me and my father, who recently passed. I left our session feeling deeply connected to my dad, affirmed of his love, and very motivated to integrate his guidance into my life. She also shared visions of a potential future partner, and even more importantly, provided me with absolutely spot-on guidance in relation to how I can grow into the kind of woman capable of welcoming and receiving such a person into my life. I have been around the block when it comes to therapy and the healing arts. Val brings a rare presence, playfulness, courage and transparency into everything she does. As a psychic/intuitive reader, Val offers something much more profound than most. Because of her extensive background as a psychotherapist and her fearless love of the depths, she is able to provide the exact medicine required in each moment -- identifying patterns that need to be broken, gifts that need to be embraced, and soul priorities that need to be honored. Val has a way of meeting you exactly where you are and shining a light on exactly those places in yourself -- and in your life -- where your care and attention are most needed. I can't recommend Val more highly.

The amount of relief EMDR with Valerie has provided me is absolutely priceless. After having a baby in 2022, a lot of other things resurfaced and I reached back out to do another "round" of EMDR. This time with similar efficiency and outcomes. We discovered so many revelations that I have never once had come up in any individual or couples therapy I've been to over the years. Overall I had a wonderful (and life changing) experience with Valerie and highly recommend her. I am able to keep my depression in check (I can't take meds for it), I am less anxious and stressed, and all of my relationships (especially my marriage) are better off because of the work I've done with Valerie. Valerie is one of the best listeners, understanding, and so incredibly sharp and insightful. I've referred friends that have had great experiences as well. If you're on the fence, just do it, my only regret is not doing it sooner. If you think it's too pricey, just think to yourself how much you would pay to not be feeling X anymore, or how much months of talk therapy/divorce costs... I'm pretty sure the answer is MUCH more than what you would pay for these sessions!
