Okay. AMAZING. We…read morecame on a Tuesday around 9:30 pm and luckily there was no line. There's no menu and no real sign, so we double-checked it was the right place by asking someone who was already eating . The team didn't speak English, so we basically got whatever they decided to make for us. I was hoping for chicken anyway, so it worked out, but my friend and I originally planned to share and try two different proteins. I DEVOURED the chicken torta chilaquiles sandwich. It did start to get a little tough towards finish towards the end, but I powered through because it was such a flavor bomb. No way I was leaving that behind. I was expecting the chilaquiles to be crunchy, and they weren't- but they also weren't soggy in a gross way. The texture actually worked in the sandwich, and the flavor was so good. And THE CREMA. So rich. So yum. Big fan. It filled me up for the entire day. Zero regrets.

It's funny, sometimes when your super hyped for a trip,You read reviews, you watch videos, you do all…read moreyou can to prepare for all the cool things you can do on your trip. Well La Esquina Del Chilaquil was for sure one of those places. Super hyped-lots of social media videos on it and it's one of the "cheap eats" spots all the influencers say one must visit when going to Mexico City. It's so hyped that they sold out the first 2x the wife and I tried to go there. Somehow my angel of a wife agreed to try them for a third time and this time we were able to get our hands on some tortas. So basically what they are famous for is these viral breakfast type tortas that are filled with chilaquiles inside. What I didn't know until I got the sandwich in hand was that they also came with either a chicken cutlet or a pork cutlet. Because of a slight language barrier,I ended up after a short line ordering two of the tortas both with chicken cutlets. So it's basically, chicken cutlets, beans, crema, cheese and chilaquiles inside a torta sandwich roll. Pretty basic and inexpensive, only cost 50 Pesos($2.85 USD) each. Everything is to go,so we found a little park nearby to eat our sandwiches. Sadly, the tortas were just more disappointing than great. The chilaquiles lacked any crunch, the flavors were decent but maybe it was the unexpected chicken cutlet, not sure,it just wasn't a great dining experience overall. Reading other reviews,I see I'm in the minority on this one and maybe it was just an off day or maybe my expectations were too high but yeah they just didn't work out too well for me. I will say this, they sell out every single day,so if you do plan on going to try em out,try to get there before 11am to guarantee your torta. Here is to hoping your experience is better than mine-Be Safe Out There.
