As this is a new restaurant there is a promotional period and we are fortunate to tap into it. Nevertheless the waitress and the owner are happy to treat us to their best. This is not just the food but the service and the little touches that encourage people to come back. The starters is quite large, share between two or even more. The main meals are huge and we had to ask for a doggy bag as they were so good and we couldn't just leave them. We had coffee at the end of the meal...ok it was lunchtime...a glass of wine or a Mexican beer would have been nice...but we were driving and the weather was terrible. Let's be safe this time! There will be another time..especially as this little gem is open of a night. Well, out came our coffees and so did two chocolate churros! Wow! Complimentary. So yummy!!! The place is small, there is no parking other than the back streets but it is a place to go to again.

My final review from my Australia trip last year is for Lüneburger German Bakery. I believe that…read moreadventure begets adventure, so I think that my visit to this German bakery played a part in my decision this year to visit Germany. It was pouring rain in Sydney on a Saturday morning. Wanting to get brekkie, I left my hotel and manuevered through the rain to get over to the train station to go to Queen Victoria Building. I had walked by this bakery previously on another visit to QVB, so when I came across it on this morning I decided to opt to get some baked goods here rather than a sit down meal somewhere. Lüneburger offers a selection of fresh breads (loaves and rolls), pastries and sandwiches. Decided to order a salted pretzel ($3.50) and a marizpan cinnamon pastry ($4). After paying, I sat down at one of the tables in front of the bakery counter to munch on my purchases. The pretzel was soft and still warm. It was salty, but not extremely so to make you scour for some water. The only thing that would have made the pretzel better is if it had some sort of dipping sauce like mustard. Looking forward to trying the pretzels in Munich to see how they compare to the one here. As for the marzipan cinnamon pastry, it also was still slightly warm which was a surprise. The pastry is made with croissant dough and filled with a sweet almond filling that was superb. I am looking forward to my visit to Germany. If the baked goods there are as good as the ones at Lüneburger, I will be satisfied.

However the little things like the decor and shop appearance could do with some work which is why they lose a star. Don't let this dark and poor exterior fool you! The beautifully crispy wood fired pizza is to die for. With an abundance of choice in toppings, everyone can be pleased at this place. If pizza isn't your thing then try the pastas. Start with the lasagne. A bit rich which is great for someone of my stature but a bit too oily for some. But the smell of tomato just envelops the stacks of pasta sheets and beef bolognese. Simply intoxicating. If that's not enough to entice you, finish with their tiramisu. Tiramisu done by Italians, nothing can be better. An added bonus is that they do take away and delivery. A nice treat for home if you can't be bothered cooking and making a mess. Although delivery times can be long so if you're hungry, I would definitely recommend picking it up yourself.

I found it a bit frustrating that whoever opened this French-inspired café and patisserie couldn't properly name it, which instantly makes me question its authenticity. It bothers me even more that they never changed it. Nonetheless, that didn't stop me from tasting the goods. This is actually a really cozy place to have a cheap coffee and a pastry, as it has an old European feel to it. I enjoyed a cappuccino that was adequate in strength and perfectly velvety. Le Petit Tarte (ah!) serves food all day. Their breakfast selections are simple, but well-executed, especially the eggs benedict. They also serve great salads and sandwiches, among other savory treats, that can be enjoyed until the café closes at 6PM. But as the name suggests, the homemade tarts and cakes are what people come here for. So screw that diet you're on, you must have a least one sampling of their cakes pastries. They're average, but the prices are very attractive.
