Friendly team and excellent service. Harriet is fast and my gel nails always look fab and last longer than any others I've had in the past. You also get offered a complimentary glass of bubbles which goes down a tear while getting your nails pampered. Gel nails cost £22 with removal of previous set included. I recently had my gels off which is £5 or free with any service, so I opted for a file and polish which cost £8 and lasted literally 10 days before it started to chip. Amazing! You can book online and I would highly recommend Harriet's service for nails. I can't comment on other beauticians as haven't experienced their services.

She also did a fantastic job with my highlights and colour, and got rid off all the black roots and brassy yellow on the lengths of my hair. I liked the way she packed the highlights tight and to the very root, so my pink colour came out beautifully. The staff are all very friendly, and the salon is very clean. MT is probably the best salon I have ever been too, as many salons I have been to before just never get my colour right like here. They are very popular though, so it's best book a few weeks in advance.

I really really wanted him to be good but unfortunately he wasn't, I'm not sure if it was just inexperience and he'll improve with time. He didn't listen to what I asked him to do. I have incredibly fine hair and am desperate for anything that will give it more volume. He asked me to remove my necklace (a thin chain) while he cut my hair, I'd never been asked to do that before but I soon found out why as he really dug the scissors in uncomfortably close to the back of neck. He took an incredibly long time to cut it, wandering off to consult with another junior worker who was dyeing someone's hair under his supervision. When I saw what he'd done, which was basically sculpt my hair flat to my head like a skull cap, I told him I'd asked him for volume. He shrugged and told me it was too difficult with my hair not in a dismissive way but more like there was nothing more he could do all while stood next to a poster proclaiming the numerous volume inducing products available. I'm not saying I want hairdressers to do the hard sell with me with products but was hoping there was something that could be done. I'm not proud of this but I cried when I got up to leave. Disappointment and the sheer frustration of someone just not listening to you got to me. Fortunately the manager who took my payment, saw I was upset and took me upstairs to explain the things that could be done to improve the cut in terms of styling. I don't think this was too much to ask of him. I haven't been back there since and I'm not sure I will. As much as I would like to say it's just hair, it's important and you're trusting someone to take scissors to part of you so you need to trust them. The rest of the hairdressers I've seen there have always been good so I think it's just a bad experience but unfortunately it's really turned me off there which is a shame.

Unfortunately the hairdresser my friend used was unavailable in the week that I wanted to get my hair done. I opted to use someone of equivalent level and thought that given the salons good reviews that would be just as good. At the salon I found the staff to be pleasant but uninterested in me. The hairdresser I used kept watching the door as if I was just a filler appointment in between their more important clients. I found the same with the reception staff who just left me standing there aimlessly for a while whilst they chatted. I wouldn't have minded the staff's dismissiveness so much if the cut had been good. However, once I got home I noticed that there were long pieces of hair that that the hairdresser has missed and I ended up having to cut these piece to length myself at home. I understand that it might be easy to miss small bits of hair but these were reasonable sizeable sections. Overall I was just disappointed. My friend had spoken about how much she liked the salon as they were very friendly and the cut/colours were always good. I had to sadly disagree. However, I do note that this could be a one time lapse in service and I am going back again tomorrow to the hairdresser actually recommended by my friend so if they are much better I will happily change my views and let you all know.

And thus to AJM, which was a personal recommendation from my friend Ruth. I've always had mine done by Greg, who is now in charge, and I've always come out extremely happy. No messing about, a nice brew etc, the only slight downside is you might have to put up with some crowing about how Man U won the Champions League. But I won't knock a star off for that The other exciting fact about AJM is that my friend Lucy actually married Greg after he did her hair. Is there any better endorsement?
