Grand Central Station of Buenos Aires! This train station…read moreis huge- if you're coming or going from BA by train, chances are you're going through here. This huge station is a beautiful old building with some really neat tile work, grand huge lobbies, meticulously crafted gates and other neat architectural details. This is the most beautiful train station in the entire country. When I went, this was the only place in town that you could get a Sube Card, to ride the subway or the bus. None of the kiosks had them, and the only place that was guaranteed to have it was a dark ticket window without a sign. It took a bunch of asking to figure out how to get one. It's like they don't want you to have one. Getting other tickets on the trains was easy, they have a ticket machine that accepts cards. The platforms were clean, and the trains coming and going were modern and safe. The place was well lit and they had more than ample signage about the trains, and the platform information. Outside of the train station, find all kinds of cool news stands selling neat souvenirs.

Retiro has cleaned itself up in the past couple of years. Buenos Aires overall has become a clean…read morecity. Just a few years ago it was common to see people just throw trash down where they were standing even when a trashcan was three feet away. Not anymore. As for train service, the network of trains in Argentina is limited and from Retiro you can only really get to the surrounding areas, nothing long-distance. The electronic tickets sales speed things up and are easy to use. Security is present and keeps things mostly in order just use common sense because... Argentina.
