With a very limited selection and sky-high prices, don't even bother looking; you won't be able to afford anything but the disdainful stares of the owner. The second is the antique store garbage dump store. It smells, things are piled every which way, and everything is filthy dirty. It's cheap but you are pretty sure that something may have died in there and you feel a little dirty just looking. So having said all of this, I come now to Father Time Antiques. This store falls into neither of the aforementioned categories. Father Time is spacious, well-lit and without a pungent odor. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The store's offerings, via many different vendor booths, displays and cases, are diverse and reasonable-prized. A great place for vintage and antique furniture, lighting, jewelry, glassware, knickknacks and just about everything in-between. Also, every purchase is impeccably packaged to make sure it makes it home with you in the same condition you bought it in.

Duluth Antique Marketplace just opened...all of the local antique stores said we should check them out and see what they're all about. No one we talked to had actually been there yet. I'd say that only one in 20 items in this store is actually an antique or something vintage. (But there seems to be more antiques in the basement.) DAM seems to mostly be a store with "up-cycled" merchandise, home-made crafts, reproduction antiques, and a few vintage items. I didn't see any hardcore high-end antiques. I saw a lot of things made out of painted wood, corrugated tin, pottery, and galvanized metal...you get the picture. Despite not really being a traditional antique store, I like what they're trying to do here. The store is large, bright, and everything is displayed nicely. There are a lot of bright, modern looking grays and whites. Everything still smells like new paint. There were two women scrambling around (The owners? Managers?) that we talked to quite a bit. Room to room, there is always something interesting to see. And the entire old basement is full of vintage furniture! It's just an amazing assortment they have here, and the owner was super kind and helpful as well. This is such a fun place to shop! I wish more people in Duluth knew about it.
