Located close to the home of Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616), this statue in Plaza de las Cortes was placed in 1833. The statue pictures the writer in shorts, buttoned jacket and a sword that references his military career. In his right hand, he holds a roll of papers. A cape covers his left arm, which was injured during the battle of Lapanto.
At the base, "To Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Prince of the Spanish Wits, year of MDCCCXXXV" in Spanish and Latin. On the sides are scenes from Don Quixote in relief.
If you're a fan of Don Quixote or perhaps you just like tilting at windmills, stop by and visit.
