I've been dining in and taking food to go from this location a lot lately, the portions are insane! They definitely justify the price. I don't think anywhere in Oakland gives you even close to half a plate here for the same cost or even sometimes more! I've been to several locations that charge $25 for a shrimp plate and only give 6 to 8 shrimp I easily get 12+ on every plate I've ordered from here. My current obsessions are the breakfast burrito and Camarones a la Diabla extra spicy. Neverrrrr disappoints! I'm also super excited that they're now available on DoorDash it saves me a trip on busy days! Service is always a 10 out of 10 ! I got back to work and started eating my super steak burrito for lunch, and half way through the burrito I found something that I thought was probably a black piece of cilantro, but when I pulled it out and started examining it, it appeared to be some sort of bug or something. I really can't distinguish what it is, BUT, one thing for sure, it shouldn't have been in my darn burrito. I'm utterly disgusted, and had to throw the rest of my food away. They are DEFINITELY not skimpy with their portions of meat, which is so moist and flavorful. Maybe it was just the fact that I'm really picky bout certain dishes and i always try to stay away from the rice and beans. I should of just gone with some tacos or a lengua burrito. I did have a michelada which i hardly ever order because i'm not much of a beer drinker, me my self i prefer a bloody mary. The service was decent the girl really didnt know the menu. The bathroom was clean actually that was pretty surprising. We wanted to grab a bite nearby and Estrellas pretty much won by default, being the only restaurant we could find in reasonable walking distance from Oracle. It's not a very pretty walk, but it's decently quick and I'm glad we made it. The restaurant has a pretty extensive menu and reasonable prices. We had two chicken tortas and ended up spending around $16. The tortas were big. Like, would have probably been a meal and a half had we not been so hungry. Although a tad bit salty, I definitely enjoyed mine and left feeling satisfied. Service was quick and attentive. I was sad to see we were the only post-game traffic this friendly family business got. THE BEST TORTA I HAVE EVER HAD! I highly recommend their Hawaiian torta. It is sooooo good! I just came back from a deployment and I literally craved this torta for months. Going anywhere else will only disappoint because no other place can top this one. In addition to that, their juice drinks are made on the spot with real fruits/vegetables. I ordered a ceviche and 1 taco and price for 1 tostada is $8.95 on menu posted on glass right in front of the register. She then rings me up $15.95 for 1 tostada de ceviche. BRO what? So, I ask okay where are the correct prices? waiter couldn't tell me, so she asks the cook, he doesn't know, well who does know? I sure as hell don't. A lady I'm assuming an owner comes up and tells me that the menus are 5 years old, and they haven't gotten new ones. My thing is you can type and print a menu in 5 minutes, advertising prices and charging something different is against the law. Located next to a truck/semi stop is small restaurant which is very easy to miss. Estrella De Sinaloa is a hidden jewel to a few of us that's serves good authentic Mexican food. I've actually never eaten inside. I always order take out. My favorite on the menu are the chicken tortas/sandwich which include lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, mayonnaise and jalapeños. The burritos and the Campechana which is a platter of rice, refried beans, tortillas and 7 different kinds of seafood that I can't remember off the top my head lol The restaurant itself may not look fancy or elegant like we're accustomed to but you'll get your money's worth. It's out of the way, but it's worth it. My friend and I went here yesterday (6/15/17) to catch dinner before the J Cole concert at Oracle Arena. We got off at the Coliseum BART, asked people for food recommendations (most didn't know what to say), consulted Yelp, and then made the 10-minute walk from the BART over to Estrellas de Sinaloa around 6:30pm. We were greeted by a friendly lady (who I assume) is the owner. She saw us struggling with the menu and so came around the counter to give us suggestions and explanations. I went with the regular Shrimp burrito, my friend got the steak/chicken/shrimp fajita plate. The food took around half an hour to come out, despite being relatively uncrowded. But IT WAS SO GOOD. My shrimp burrito (inside was shrimp, rice, and refried pinto beans) was delicious and filling. My friend's fajita plate was MASSIVE. It easily could have fed a family of 4, but my poor friend was stuck (but happily stuck, mind you) attempting to eat the whole thing. He couldn't finish it and so we took the rest to go. We were unsure whether or not the food would have been allowed in Oracle, and so we ended up trading the food for a reduced price on J Cole t-shirts on the bridge from the Coliseum to Oracle. We got a 2 for $25 for the shirts which the street seller was originally priced $20 each (and also, my friend is ridiculously personable and a great bargainer). So the shirt seller got the food, we got hella dope sentimental J Cole concert baseball tees, and all was well in the world. Within my first week here I ordered a big orders to feed our entire staff, and the team at Estrella is totally killed it. Everything was ready to go. Everything was delicious. IF YOU LIKE SALSA, DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I am appalled at their customer service. Each meal comes with chips and salsa and I am a big salsa lover and needed more salsa for my food. Rather than calling over the waitress I went up to the counter and patiently waited til she saw me and asked for more. She gave me a dirty look. Each time I went up (the containers are really small!) she looked at me worse. It was so uncomfortable that I asked for less than I actually needed and at one point told her coworker in front of me in Spanish that I had 5 and she was clearly trashing me and thought I didn't understand Spanish, which I do. She shamed me for enjoying salsa and my meal was not what it could have been due to her nasty attitude. If it really were such a huge issue, she could have told me it cost money, but she didn't. And honestly, salsa is a staple at Mexican restaurants and damn near every place is very generous about giving it. Clearly not the case here. Also note, I tipped as I ordered, which is not necessarily required when you pay at the counter. But that clearly did not affect her poor service and shaming of me. This was not the first time it happened, I keep giving this restaurant a chance because the food is decent and it's close to my work but this was the final straw. No one should feel guilty for wanting a lot of salsa and trust me, 5 tiny containers is not a lot when you have a huge plate and lots of chips. But when it came to paying the waitress told me (only after I asked why it was was more than I expected) that the menu she had given us didn't have the correct price but THIS menu that had my order at $2 more was the correct one.
