This massive tomb site is date back 4th century. During that time the graveyard is set next to city…read moregate. During that time tomb is not allowed in the city wall. A lot wealthy people buried here. It is consider a popular site to buried. It is a large Roman necropolis. Where necropolis is defined as city of dead. It was popular that they ship some dead from other place to here from sea. Onetime it was buried in thee layer. Since it is wealthy people graves, these grave rob and dug out for the items that buried with them. When you visited this place, you will see a lot of empty coffins due to the same reason was robed. The coffins line up like a street straight line and lead to the chapel behind. This place is part of UNESCO world heritage site. There was a bishop buried here and his relic is now removed to a church nearby. van Gogh and Paul Gauguin have come to this place to draw the graveyard side by side. It will be fun to host an event for Halloween.

The arena was build around 90 AD. It can seat 20,000 audience. It is also called the Arles Amphitheatre. After fall of Roman Empire, there was city built in the arena and removed at 18th century. Now the arena use for bull fighting.

The underground Christian living during 1st century BC. This underground structure is construct…read morewith Roman technology. It is part of UNESCO world heritage site. I was surprised that there is window to above ground. I am guessing they use it for air ventilation. The underground city has compartment that separated for each family. They did do a good tunnel with different wing. Structure is reinforced by brick. It is a bit wet and damping. Can imagine the living here without sunlight.
