We engaged Ethan Chin for assistance with my 87-year-old mother-in-law's U.S. citizenship application, specifically regarding the N-648 Medical Certification for Disability Exceptions. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing and led to significant setbacks in our application process. The primary issue was the submission of an outdated N-648 form (expired 12/31/2021) for our USCIS interview, which resulted in an immediate rejection. Moreover, the USCIS officer informed us that the content of the form, even if up-to-date, was insufficient and lacking in several areas. This oversight not only delayed our process but also necessitated hiring a new attorney to correct these mistakes. We had initially chosen Ethan Chin for his professed expertise in handling such complex cases. However, the lack of attention to crucial details, such as the validity of forms and the thoroughness of the medical rationale, was highly concerning and counterproductive. After this experience, we felt compelled to discontinue their services. Furthermore, we were only informed of a subsequent request for documents from the government by the Ethan Chin after we sought a new lawyer, putting us under a tight deadline. This added to the already stressful situation. In the end, we were able to successfully navigate the process with the help of a new attorney, who provided the detailed attention and expertise required for such a sensitive and important matter. I felt it necessary to share our experience to inform potential clients. The process of obtaining U.S. citizenship, especially under special circumstances such as medical exceptions, requires meticulous attention to detail and up-to-date knowledge of USCIS procedures. It was straightforward and on the day of the hearing, everything went smoothly unlike other cases that were on the same day from other attorneys. If you pick an attorney and they don't have their ducks in a row, they will likely extend your hearing due to missing information or it being submitted late by the attorney which I imagine is a headache specially when it's not your fault! Eventually, the EEOC gave me a date--three months out. Then, out of nowhere, the firm called and said they were no longer considering representing me. Seriously? This entire experience gave me false hope and wasted a lot of my time. I followed their instructions, trusted their guidance, and ended up right back at square one--without representation and stuck dealing with the EEOC, which already has a reputation for being slow and unhelpful. Extremely unprofessional and disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this firm to anyone.
