The best Italian food my partner and I have had in years. Wish we lived in Lancaster instead of London - we'd be there every week.

Within a little know Italian restaurant in Lancaster called Marcos there lies fabulous Italian…read morefood! We found this place as it is a favorite with my boyfriends' mum. It is both authentic and surprisingly cheap! There is a happy hour every day between 5 and 6:30 pm which makes every starred pasta and pizza just £5.00! Yes its no michellin star restaurant but it has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere which makes you feel right at home! The staff are generally really attentive and friendly however some of the less experienced younger lads are a bit dozy sometimes.... We came here on sunday with 2 other friends seeking some hangover cures! We started with a garlic bread and cheese- you will need to share this as it is HUGE! It is basically a pizza without tomato and shed loads of garlic and cheese- dreamy! We came in happy hour so ordered a pasta and pizza to share between me and Gilly. We plumped for the 'ala Marcos' pizza which involved lots of ham, mushrooms and pepperoni- mouthwateringly good and a great crispy base which I love. For the pasta we got a vegetarian spinach and ricotta cannelloni covered in tomato sauce and oven baked. This was tasty and the sauce was amazing but the cheese inside was just slightly dry- but not enough to not finish it! To finish it off we shared a plate of profiteroles- these are amazing but a very large portion! Filled and covered with chocolate mousse and sweet cream this is not a pudding for dieters! All in all a great meal, slightly peeved that we had to wait a while for our bill as the young waiter forgot it, but still 5 stars as I always want to come back when we're in Lancaster.

The new set up makes for more room too. As a disabled customer never made to feel odd means a lot. I couldn't recommend them enough.

It would be fair to say it exceeded our expectations the tomato and basil soup was served with bread and genuinely excellent. Followed by carnivore pizza which again was excellent with really high quality ingredients Italian meats, spicy sausage, fresh chilli etc. I would have been thrilled with this quality of food doran evening out never mind lunch. Staff were very pleasant and the restaurant though small was immaculate. I strongly recommend you give it a try.

There were five of us and we chose a variety of dishes,I had red mullet, ratatouille and green (pesto?) mashed potato, whereas my son had pizza. Mine was absolutely delicious. So was the cappucino brulee that I shared with my wife. Everybody else was very pleased with their choices too. Quite a small premises with straightforward decor and ambience, but clean and well run. Definitely worth a visit. I believe you pay a premium for eating in Ambleside but we spent slightly over £20 per head and I think that this was most reasonable overall. I hope that you enjoy it too.

Contrary to my companions, I really enjoyed myself at Rossini…read more Ulverston might have around 18 pubs, but they certainly lack restaurants. Mexican, Chinese, Indian, and this Italian. On a Saturday, you need to book, even for the pubs, and we were completely caught out. Eventually, after ringing through the pubs, we managed to get a table at 8pm at Rossini. Inside, it's nicely decorated, if a bit traditional-English-Italian; various plants, wine bottles, and watercolours in shades of bue and terracotta. The main thing that hit me was the lack of noise from outside, just the noise of customers, and a slightly odd soundtrack of Westlife and Dido, though this was barely audible and, I assume, mainly for the kitchen staff. I skipped a starter but nabbed some of the other half's arancini balls - fried risotto balls - and they didn't dissapoint. Lightly flavoured and the perfect consistency, and served with a lovely rep pepper sauce. For main I tucked in to/devoured a beef, chicken, ham and cheese calzone. And it was delicious. And I finished it. The beef was nice and spicy, the same as the meatballs, and everything was heated through nicely, bound by a tomato sauce. For something like £8.95, this seemed like great value to me as I was stuffed. But, true to form, not stuffed enough, as I had a nice and simple chocolate-nut sundae for dessert. Toffee and vanilla ice-cream with whipped cream and nuts with chocolate sauce. Sounding good isn't it? We polished off the meal with a shot of limoncello each, despite the young waitress not really knowing what it was, and left feeling full and happy. A gem for Ulverston as it's not awash with this kind of eating - it's good to remember there's more than just pubs to visit. Though those are good too.
