    Cute little Italian restaurant in Melrose Hill on Western, finally was able to get down here. Parking, there is valet on site but try to find street parking if you can and save some $$$. We were seated outside on the patio and our drink order was taken right away. After a quick glance at the menu, our food order was placed. It did take a while to get the dishes out for some reason, both appetizers and entrees, so that was a let down. We started with the tuna crudo and the meatballs. The crudo was very good, simple yet delicious. Bluefin tuna in a calabrese sauce, it just came together well. Very nice bites. The meatballs were also tasty with ricotta and sugo. Putting a little extra sauce on each bite just enhanced the flavor profile. Entrees, we went with the Campanelle Alla Vodka and the NY strip. The Campanelle had large chunks of tiger prawns and calabrian chili. Not very spicy but you get little pops of spice here and there to make it interesting. The Campanelle could have been a little more aldente, and it felt like something was missing to bring it all together, but it was decent overall. The NY strip has a vermouth cream and we ordered a side of potatoe puree to go along with it. The potatoes were perfect, can't ask for better. The NY strip was cooked perfectly, no complaints. Overall, another Italian restaurant serving up some quality food. Though the Campanelle felt like it was missing something, everything else was great. Cute spot for a date or to just grab a cozy dinner with friends.

    Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and we were pleasantly surprised. They had a great wine selection, great pasta, and great garlic bread. The tuna crudo was chefs kiss, and that salsa macha almost made me lick my plate clean. We only wish we ordered more since portions are tinyyy (be sure to order accordingly). Unfortunately, my group and I came close to last call so we weren't able to add to our order and I left a little hungry. But I will definitely come back to make up for it! Vibes are very cozy inside, I don't think I would recommend this place for a large party since it's a bit small. Parking sucks as is expected in the area, valet only.

    Came here for dinner with my boyfriend after seeing Ètra in the Red Dining Book 2026, so yes, I walked in expecting pasta that would change my life. It's tucked behind Café Telegrama and the vibe is actually really nice dim, cozy, date night. I'd recommend valet. Service was the best part. Everyone was genuinely sweet and worked together like a real team, super smooth all night. You can tell they care. We ordered the chicories, spicy vodka pasta, roast chicken, branzino and the NY strip. And honestly... everything was good? Just not wow. The vodka pasta was kinda watery which confused me because pasta is apparently their thing. I kept taking bites like maybe this one will hit different. It did not. Chicken was chicken. Fish was... wet? Steak good. Nothing terrible, nothing that made us stop talking and rethink our lives. Overall I'd say... beautiful space, excellent service, and a really nice night. I just expected to be more obsessed with the food than I was. I'd still go back though because the vibe and service are truly stunning but maybe I'd order differently next time.

    Food was delicious but with the difficult parking situation in the neighborhood (after 3 laps around we had to just do valet to make our reservation time) and awkward service for us, I unfortunately likely won't be back. The interior was cute but small and very chilly as they keep the door open. It's a bit of a tight space but has a nice vibes. We got the speck, mortadella, and burrata to start then shared the spicy campanelle alla vodka and roast chicken. Our starter was decent but nothing outstanding. The entrees however were super flavorful and surprisingly generous - we only wish they came out closer in time. By the time the chicken came out our pasta was unfortunately already cold so we couldn't enjoy them together. Service wasn't bad - just not very welcoming or warm. Before even getting to the restaurant, I tried calling to learn more about their valet situation but was placed on hold for over 5 minutes so ended up hanging up when we pulled in to the lot and walked up to the host chatting with a coworker. Not sure if that's why I was placed on hold for so long but it definitely didn't seem busy at the time we arrived. We also felt rushed to order as soon as we sat down and our server just made us both feel a bit uncomfortable/awkward. Overall, I appreciated my friend bringing me here for my birthday celebration but we both likely won't come back unless someone else wants to visit. Food was good but doesn't make up for how we felt during our dining experience.

    LA needed a restaurant like this. I almost feel like I'm transported to New York every time I'm here. I haven't been this happy with a restaurant on the east side since Mh Zh. This restaurant checks all the boxes for me, where ambience, service, and the food exceed my expectations. There's something that this spot has that none of my favorite restaurants in LA has, and it's a layer of... Intimacy. The staff really takes pride in what they do and they're so nice. I remember the first time I had a reservation here, our waitress, who is a really sweet girl with sharp, brunette hair was so attentive, the manager is amazing. the food is delicious. It's hard for me to find a place in LA that has ambience and delicious food and this one checks all those boxes. The crowd is good. One of my favorite restaurants in town.

    Amazing food and ambiance! Ordered the Garlic Bread, Meatballs, Roasted Chicken and Spicy Campanelle Vodka Pasta which was the favorite dish. Honorable mention to the chicken because it was so tasty and juicy! Topped it off with chocolate gelato for dessert and it was the perfect ending to our meal. Went for NYE and was fortunately able to be moved to the bar- we initially booked for patio but it was raining way too hard. Service was great and everyone was very attentive despite it being a very busy night. The restaurant is a little hard to find, but it is to the right of Cafe Telegram if you're facing the buildings, and valet is also in between the cafe and Etra

    I was pleasantly surprised!! My uber driver had a hard time finding the restaurant because the signage is not too visible from Western.. when my friends and I first got there, the restaurant was pretty empty at 6:30pm on a Thursday. But by the time we left, it was completely packed and there were people waiting outside! Everything we ate was delicious! Loved their chicken dish (I think it's their signature). Nice clean bathroom, cute little restaurant, good service!

    What an awesome experience! This was our first time dining in here. Made prior reservations for a Saturday evening. This restaurant is tucked in the heart of LA downtown; street parking or valet is available. Their pasta selection are limited, but they also offer other dishes and appetizers to go along with the pasta dishes. We ordered the Spicy Campanelle Alla Vodka and their Spaghetti Al Limone. We also got their garlic bread to start. The portions of their pasta are on the smaller side; howerver, it's how an authentic Italian restaurant serves their pasta. Ingredients are minimal, but the pasta texture is al dente. To properly finish our dinner, we ordered a couple desserts. Forgot their names, but they were both tasty. Overall, we had a great time. The server was super friendly, and she was always attentive. We will definitely be coming back here again

    Nice ambiance inside very dark and romantic theme. The food was good but honestly nothing stood out like crazy. The best thing was the sticky toffee pudding for me but it was still not the best I've had. Service was great nice people and accurate wait times. Amazing service overall would definitely recommend for a nice casual dinner.

    It was busy inside so it was sort of loud. We ordered multiple dishes to share at the table. The Tuna Crudo was thick and I loved their melon combo with it to make it light and refreshing. The burrata was smooth and piped on sourdough toast with lemon on top- it's one of the best burrata on toast that I've ever had. The Bucatini alle vongole had clams and breadcrumbs & the Spicy campanelle alla vodka they can adjust the spice level. Both were delicious seafood pastas. The Whole grilled branzino was moist and flakey. The Tiramisu was a decent size with great espresso flavor and lots of chocolate shavings on top. Parking- valet $15

    Etra has been on my list to try for years now and I finally got the chance to go. It's a cozy little spot that's small but charming with great service. The servers and hosts were kind and speedy. Unfortunately, the food let me feeling whelmed. To start, we had the meatballs and garlic bread, which were pretty boring and dare I say forgettable. I did like the Lambrusco I ordered. For an entree, i I got the famous spicy Campanella alla vodka with tiger prawns. It was decent and the texture of the noodles was solid, but it was just shy of bland. The prawns were the best part because they added a punch of flavor and missing depth. I will say that my friend loved her branzino though. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding, which I honestly found to be too grainy and overpowered by the mound of ice cream on top. Honestly, Etra is a true 3.5/3.6 but, for the pricing, I expect excellent food, not just excellent service.

    It's not often that I don't enjoy the entirety of my dining experience but this was sadly one of those times. We came on a weekday at 530, the start of their evening dining hours. It slowly started to fill up with a bunch of tables bringing in their own bottles of wine. This was my first red flag. The wine list might look extensive on first glance but there are only 3 options of wine by the glass for red and white and the variety between them was dismal. I sampled a couple and they all tasted like $10 bottle wine being served for $18 a glass. It's seems like a cute tiny little spot off Western but the interior wasn't that inviting. The red and orange hues are a bit bunch and they keep the front door open, so it's freezing the entire time. The service also left a lot to be desired. I truly could not tell if our server was trying to be cool and laid back or simply didn't care as most of our questions were met with a blank face and one worded answers. We asked that one meal be coursed out with the meat and cheese accompanying the garlic bread, then the tuna crudo, followed by our entrees. E received the speck and burrata which was very disappointing. You could tell by the way the meat was cut that it not cut fresh in house, but looked more like what you would receive from a premade charcuterie board at Ralph's. Next we received the tuna crudo which could have been farther from what we were expecting. The salsa macha calabrese was so overpowering and not at all complimentary to the tuna, that I was scraping it off. After that we finally received our garlic bread, would I would have preferred to eat with the meat and cheese, as ordered. The bread itself was fine. They melt cheese on top so it reminded me more of an item you'd get for kids that would satisfy them. For our entrees we ordered the spicy vodka and the roast chicken polenta. At one point we had to flag someone down as it had been an hour and 15 minutes since we sat down and ordered and had not received our entrees. It was pretty busy in the kitchen as they had a photographer in their snapping pictures of everything which felt like it slowed down service. When our meals were brought out they offered a free side of potato puree to apologize for the wait. The spicy vodka with tiger prawn was just ok. There was barely any spice and the shrimp were sad little clumps tossed in. The roast chicken was a surprisingly large portion and probably the best thing we ordered. The mushrooms were sparse and it would have been more suited accomplices with the potato puree than the polenta. I love trying new places but this will be a new place and I will never recommend or return to.

    Went to Etra on a Saturday night for a girls' night dinner and had a wonderful experience. We had a reservation, and the space itself was just perfect -- cozy, inviting, and cute but still elevated enough to feel special. Our server was wonderful and super helpful in guiding us through the wine list. We ended up going through two bottles of dry white wines (sorry, I don't remember which ones specifically) -- both went great with the food. The dishes were thoughtfully prepared, with portions on the smaller side (as expected for this style of dining). Highlights: * Tuna Crudo with melon: Loved the balance -- the melon wasn't overly sweet, and the olive oil drizzle tied it all together beautifully. (4/5) * Grilled Cauliflower: Cooked to perfection, with a nice bite and bagna càuda, a warm, savory dip that's garlicky, with anchovies and olive oil (I think). (4/5) * Spicy Campanelle alla Vodka with tiger prawn & Calabrian chili: Rich, creamy, with just the right kick of heat. The prawns were spot on. (4.5/5) * Roast Chicken with heirloom tomato panzanella: Juicy chicken paired with bright, acidic tomatoes and bread that soaked up all the flavors. (4/5) * Toffee cake à la mode: Decadent, warm, and a perfect finish to the meal. (4.5/5) The restaurant isn't huge, but that adds to the charm -- low lighting and intimate vibes make it a great spot for a date night or small group dinner. I'd definitely come back, especially since it seems that some of their menu rotates seasonally. Overall: 4.5/5 - A lovely experience that feels both relaxed and elevated.

We also ordered a seasonal dish called Paccheri Nero Di Polpo featuring squid ink paccheri pasta cut to resemble calamari and served with cooked octopus ragù. They serve free bread as you wait and you can help yourself to olive oil, vinegar, and/or their chili oil. Can't go wrong with an order of calamari. While I can only officially claim about 12% Italian heritage, I'm 100% down for Italian food, especially homemade pasta, any day of the week. I'm spending this week in Little Tokyo for a conference, and while Japanese food is also absolutely my jam, when Maccheroni Republic slid into my Yelp feed, I knew that I had to hoof it over there immediately after we broke for the day. I saw the front of the building, and my heart sank because it looked closed, but then I noted the sign that indicated that the entrance is on the right side of the building through the courtyard. Thank goodness! I strutted through the courtyard, and observed about 15 people waiting for tables. Unbothered, I went up to the host stand and chatted with the stylish maitre'd - Dino - who indicated that he could have a table for me in 7-10 minutes. I proceeded to wait and I watched how he deftly sat the other waiting parties in order without difficulty or notes. To the untrained eye, it might have looked a little chaotic, but Dino absolutely knew what he was doing. About 15 minutes later, Dino sat me at a corner deuce in the inside dining room where I had a nice view of everything. Angel efficiently took my order and did a very good job of overseeing my table as well as about nine others. The dining room is so cute and homey, and the patio is a welcome respite from the bustle and business of downtown. Since I was "da sola" or on my own, I just tried the shrimp cakes and I ordered the Rigatoni all Norma which is one of of my go to pasta dishes since I don't eat much meat. Incidentally, this dish is named after Norma, the famous 19th-century opera composed by Catanese native Vincenzo Bellini. According to legend, a famous Sicilian playwright, Nino Martoglio, tried the pasta and was so overwhelmed by its perfection that he exclaimed, "Chista è 'na vera Norma!" ("This is a true Norma!"), comparing the culinary masterpiece to the musical one. So says Wikipedia anyway. The shrimp cakes were delivered quickly by a sweet food runner who kindly checked on me periodically during my dinner. The four shrimp cakes were accompanied by sauteed onions which paired really nicely with the crispy cakes that were brightened with a spritz from the fresh lemon wedge. She also brought a basket with four slices of Italian bread which I enjoyed with the EVOO and Balsamic that were on the table. My Watermelon Ciao was also so good. It was sweetly tart and such a nice treat on a Monday! Not long after I polished off the shrimp cakes, the rigatoni was delivered and dusted with a generous layer of parmigiana. The little fresh mozzarella pearls glistened on the top of the pasta and slowly melted and oozed into the sauce as I stirred it up. Yum! The rigatoni were al dente and delicious, and they were perfectly sauced. Of course, the eggplant was perfectly cooked as well, I only wish there had been a few more pieces of it - although by the time I ate the last noodle, I was so full! Alas, I had no room for dessert, but I intend to bring some of my conference colleagues back for a meal before the end of the week because it was THAT GOOD. I also loved that this place is NOT pretentious at all. There were all sorts of folks enjoying their food here from medical professionals in scrubs to college kids in shorts and t-shirts, and I was also very casually attired, but I was treated well and welcomed with graciousness and delicious food! My only wish -- larger serving of this (smallest pasta serving on the menu). To complete it, banana pudding tiramisu -- delicious too with a firm center and oozy outside. Atala was wonderful and very sweet. Recommendation: come with a group of at least 4 to try more on the menu -- the large plates (branzino and ribeye) looked excellent! Definitely a worthwhile visit.

Of the things we ordered, I really loved the farro salad ($22?) best. Refreshing pomegranate seeds are mixed with the farro and give the salad an added crunch. The farro sits on a bed of dill infused crème fraiche. It is a deliciously refreshing salad and the perfect complement to any meal. For pastas, the sweet corn agnolotti ($28) was so light and fun. The little pockets of agnolotti is stuffed with corn and swims in a savory broth anchored by crème fraiche. It's giving summer and I'm absolutely here for it. Cento's dining space is quaint, so make sure to make a resy.

That dinner belongs to a chapter in which I spent considerable time in California and felt energized by the contrast with New York. My friend is highly discerning, with impeccable taste in food, design, and culture. He notices details most people miss, so when a place impresses him, I pay attention. From the moment I saw his message, I knew the reservation meant something. Even before we entered, Bestia's character was evident. Faded lettering crossed the corrugated metal facade, while brick walls and old loading doors preserved the warehouse's industrial history. Inside, enormous windows and garage doors brought light into a room shaped by glass, exposed ductwork, and warm amber pendants. When I fantasize about living in a loft, many of the attributes I picture are here, especially the incredible windows and connection to the street. Inside the restaurant, the dining room achieved a combination I rarely encounter. It had the table density and collective buzz of a great New York restaurant, but within a large, design-forward space closer in scale to something found in Chicago. New York creates energy through tight rooms, while Chicago excels at ambitious spaces with strong architectural identities. Bestia captured both advantages and made its considerable footprint feel alive and unified. We sat shoulder to shoulder at a pale stone counter facing the open kitchen. Golden era hip hop was playing, and A Tribe Called Quest still rings a very specific bell. I ordered the squid ink pasta, and it was exquisite, with enough depth and precision to command attention amid everything happening around us. We also spotted an unmistakably A-list celebrity, whom I will leave unnamed, making the night feel quintessentially Los Angeles. During that period, I often stayed at the Ace Hotel downtown, and the Arts District felt vibrant, raw, and full of possibility. The proximity to Skid Row could be deeply jarring, with severe hardship existing beside ambitious development and expensive restaurants. That contrast kept the neighborhood from feeling like a neat story of urban renewal, even as Bestia seemed to anchor its evolution. The warehouses and loading docks gave the area a character that no new development could convincingly recreate. Nearby, I also remember the American Apparel complex during its demise and the rise of impossibly cool Los Angeles designer John Elliott. His Escobar sweatpants and Villain hoodie helped define the kit of that moment; loyalists will understand. Los Angeles is a fickle city, drawn toward whatever is new and shiny, which makes Bestia's longevity especially impressive. Scene without substance is plastic, and Bestia earned its electricity through exceptional cooking, assured service, and a remarkable space; if I lived in Los Angeles, this would be one of the places I'd rely on whenever I wanted to impress someone. This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in the world.

Once step inside, the decoration, the vibe totally changed. It's a dark hue with humbling yet elegant setting with a bar table and I almost felt like a dining in the cave ambiance. The menu was not complicated and only focused on pasta, but there are so many choices to my liking! The squid ink, the mentai cream, the uni sauce, and the garlic butter sauce. We ended up settling with Creamy Crab Gratin, mentai cream pasta, the Pescatore Bianca (seafood spaghetti), and Tarako Spaghetti (Cod roe and squid garlic butter sauce). -Crab Gratin is really creamy and cheesy. I just didn't quite get why there are a few pieces of penne pasta inside. But overall tasted good! -All pasta comes with bread and salad. The salad is really fresh and serve mostly lettuce and cherry tomato, which is how I like it. The dressing is not the ranch creamy kind, more cloudy vinaigrette based, also to my liking. -Seafood spaghetti came with a variety of seafood, shrimp, squid ring, mussels, clams, etc. The portion is huge. -Mentai cream pasta: delicious! I think if I order uni pasta, it'll be the same cream base sauce but with uni and $6 bucks more. I'm happy with my choice. The whole dish is consistent, creamy with a slight kick from the mentai, slices of mushrooms and shredded seaweeds on the top. Delish! -Tarako Spaghetti: I took a small bite and appreciated the strong taste of garlic butter in the sauce. -All 3 pasta are served with the thin spaghetti like angel hair. Service is ok, we asked for water refill and the response was polite. Dirty dishes were taken away timely. If I had more time, I would definitely come back for a second visit. A place like this deserves to be in a more upscale block on the street. Btw, parking inside the plaza is not free even though it's just a strip mall. Expect about $8 bucks for dinner parking. For entrees and sides, we ordered the lasagna, the eggplant tortellini, the chicken parmesan and the broccolini. I can only say they really like their parmesan here. The tortellini was the star of the show for me and I think it was partially because all the other dishes were marinera + parmesan so it gave a nice break in the flavor profile. Something to consider when ordering next time. The chicken parmesan was delicious. I found the lasagna to be okay and would pass on the broccolini next time (to be fair, I got rid of all the cheese so that probably change the flavor profile they were going for).
