Five stars for a cake shop, so you know it's going to be good.
I stumbled across the Ettalong Cake Shop by accident while looking for a swift pre-wedding snack, and I'm glad I did. It was so good, I went back the next morning for a post-wedding mid-hangover breakfast.
However, to be honest, when I entered, I thought I may have erred badly. The slightly gruff service and clipped interaction did not bode well I thought, but to my surprise, the pie and cake I purchased on my first visit were among the best I have ever had. Not the best, not going to go close, but still deserving of a five star rating.
And cheap for tings so good and so big! I got a pie, cake and drink for somewhere between $10 and $12, but not sure exactly. I wish my local pie purveyor in Melbourne was so inclined.....
Pro tip: get your pies and drinks, and then walk to the beach or one of the seats along the promenade so you can watch the world go by. The Central Coast of NSW is without a doubt God's country, and the view will enhance the experience.
The hangover pie was tactical mastery on my part, and I believe the only thing that prevented me from dieing on the train back to Sydney.
