I've been to Birmingham a few times and never explored their local food options and decided to change that. Eugene's has really good reviews so I made this my first stop. And good thing I did! I looked at the menu and honestly wanted to order everything cause it all sounds good. I don't eat much so I went with the two piece chicken tenders kids meal. The lady who took my order said they have a regular chicken tenders meal but I said I wanted the kids meal cause I don't eat a lot. She then said "It's the same amount of food." which, ok cool, but I don't think that should be said cause they can lose out on money. Just my opinion. And FYI, I very often get kids meals cause I really don't eat a lot. Not trying to save money or anything. The meal came with two chicken tenders, sauce, fries and a drink. Fries were good. Nothing to complain about. Those tenders tho.....YUM!!! So much flavor. And the ranch I got with it....yes! The young lady at the resister wasn't very personable. No smile offered. I had never been to this restaurant and had forgotten to tell them the spice level. The young lady never asked me either. I hadn't realized that I hadn't told them to add heat until my food was already being prepared. The food was fresh and delicious. The French fries are thin string shoe style. The chicken tenders were big and breaded nicely. The ranch was good. Not quite as good as Wi by Stop, but better than packet ranch. I'm back at Eugene's. Yes, 5 years later!!! What's wrong with me?! Eugene's is the BEST hot chicken experiences in Birmingham, Alabama. I love their hot tenders , which are jumbo.... Literally! I had their picked fried okra for the first time and it was amazing! Only complaint, i wanted more pieces of okra. The service was friendly. There was a bit of a wait for my to -go order but they were slightly busy at the time of my visit. Parking can be an issue depending on your time of visit. I located street parking pretty easily around 7:30 pm ish on a Thursday. There's not much to the ambiance.... It's fried smelling! It's not a large space but it's comfortable. Just as good or better than the more famous Nashville/hot chicken places. Having tried all the big hot chicken places I was surprised to learn about Eugene's right in Birmingham. It's a nice traditional quick service sit down place. They have a cooler with beer and their signature lemonade which I highly suggest.
