Eureka, Nevada.....what a rustic little western-themed town. I was driving along the iconic - Loneliest Road In America and stopped here at the Eureka Opera House. My initial and only reason for heading inside this unique Opera House was to have my Loneliest Road "Survival Guide" booklet stamped identifying that I had passed through Eureka navigating along the 400 mile trek through Nevada.
What I didn't realize.....upon having my survival guide stamped....the owner of this Opera House....a genuinely nice and friendly woman offered me a free tour throughout the grounds of this place.
Wow....what an added bonus. I mean....I gave no thought into any of the incredible history and legacies that had been bestowed upon this site. I figured it was a small time joint. Yeah, literally it is.....but the amount of musical groups and performances that have played and passed through here was awakening. Eureka Opera House is quite famous in and of itself.
The lady here was so generous and courteous with her time....showing me around and giving me a true history lesson about this locale. And incredible.....overall, the town of Eureka is so small and located sort of in the middle of nowhere....it's impossible to think how this Opera House could ever book any musical acts. But they have. The owner deserves recognition for keeping the lights burning brightly and maintaining the integrity of this landmark.
Yeah...she gave me a private, free tour.....I walked up on stage and ventured behind the scenes. In the back, musical groups had signed their names all over the walls (think how the celebs do it on the James Corden Show). There are pictures and frames hung from all the famous bands, performers and guests that have played.
This was a real treat to wander around and explore. Before leaving, there was a small donation box near the door and of course I was happy to put a few dollars in to help support this venue.
Overall, this is not your typical "opera house". It's really an entertainment performance house for not just small up and coming acts, but from time to time legendary musicians and groups as well.
And to be situated so secluded here in Eureka.....(if anyone's ever been to Eureka) this Opera House was a great roadside stop for anyone navigating along the Loneliest Road In America. read more
