Eureka Puzzles is a bright and colorful shop filled with puzzles of all kinds. If you are looking for games, they are located just to the left as you walk in, with more on the far side of the register. They have the classics: chess, Scrabble, Monopoly, Chinese Checkers, cards; they also had a really good selection of RPG games: Arkham Asylum, Settlers of Catan in many flavors, Battlestar Galactica, a Discworld game, and many innovative strategy games. There was a pair of all-marble chess sets complete with pieces which were gorgeous, the smaller set sells for $90 which is really reasonable. The store also has lots of kinesthetic puzzles - magnets, models, lots of metal puzzles to figure out how to take apart, and some rubiks style puzzles. They keep a bigger inventory of their puzzles online than they can fit in their store, since their basement is full of them! So check that out if you're looking for something specific. The employees were very friendly and willing to help us out, and were jovial through the checkout process. They have a rewards system that gives quarterly rewards of 5% in store credit on all purchases, free to anyone. The only thing I couldn't find was a good set of multiple sided dice, but I could have missed them. Lots of parking is available on Beacon St, and I just found out it's free on Sundays! I have a four-year-old who intellectually functions at a 5th or 6th grade level. We have consistent problems finding activities that will challenge her intellect, but are mindful of her attention span / maturity. The owner of the store came out and took the time to explain to me some logic games that would be a good fit for our daughter, and I feel like that needs to be supported. Also, they have a ton of adult board games. It's worth it to me to drive up into Brookline to avoid going to the game store in JP. These folks are very worthy of support. read more

One super cool thing about Eureka is they have some sample games that are open so you can play with them before you buy them they have a vast selection of puzzles and mind and brain games they also have classics like chess and checkers. if you are looking to test your brain and think outside of the box Eureka is the place to go. read more

This is the coolest store, and I don't even like games all that much. One of my favorite things about this place is that on nice days, there's a puzzle outside that passersby can work on (I once spent 20 minutes there and probably would have spent longer if I hadn't had perishables in my grocery bag!). Another fun feature is the riddle on the outside window--solve it and you can get a discount on one item! The staff are super friendly--it seems like it would be really fun to work here--and they're all very knowledgeable about the different games and can make really good recommendations. As I mentioned, I'm not really a game person, but I was able to find a few that I really like (some that I'd never even heard of before)--and I believe that if there's something you do want that they don't have, they can get it for you. In addition to games and puzzles, they also have books with puzzles and brainteasers and fun/educational toys. This would be a great place to get gifts for kids of any age. read more

This is my favorite game store in the Boston area. They have quite a large selection of games, really cool puzzels, and extremely helpful staff. I often ask the staff, when I come in, for new recommendations of games. On multiple occasions, they've pulled more games from the back which they think I might like which were not ones on desplay. My only complaint is that their board game nights are only two hours long. That's only enough time to really play through one decently length game. read more

There really aren't too many game stores in the Boston/Brookline/Cambridge area, which is a shame. I love going to game stores and perusing the latest board and party games. What makes Eureka really special is their customer service. I've never had a bad experience there. Just really down to earth people who love games as much as the people who frequent the place. Absolutely worth the trip, no matter where you live. I think I've been to every game-peddlng store in the greater Boston area over the past 10 years (most of which are no longer in existence, sadly), but this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. Every American and European board game I could think of, and when they didn't have one slightly obscure children's title, they knew where to get it. They also have a great selection of crossword puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, and the kinds of puzzles that aren't jigsaw puzzles. Great inventory, and a sincere, nerdly staff. Think Pandemonium Books, but actually even friendlier and even more willing to geek out with you. Then when you're done stocking up, you can wheel your barrow full of puzzles and games across the street to Party Favors and buy a box of completely awesome cupcakes drizzled in liquid awesomesauce. I feel a little lost whenever I go in there. It is packed with puzzles and games but the staff is really helpful navigate through. I am not into D&D (nothing wrong people who are) or any of those games so I mainly stick to the puzzles when I go there. They have a good selection of puzzles. Sadly, the last time I went they did not have any puzzles of local things- just cant relate to light houses of Georgia. But either way got a great puzzle of a sunflower field in upstate NY. Get on their mailing list so you can get info on gatherings, game camps, and new products. These folks are really info their games. While I can get any puzzle online I feel better supporting a small business and having them speical order something for me. Gotta keep it local! read more

Valerie and Eric were on a quest. A quest to find the perfect game for a double-date-game-off with Sarah and Jeremy. We had decided on Pictionary, I mean, come on...who doesn't like Pictionary?! After Valerie explored Barnes and Noble's with no success, we decided to look around the Brookline area as we had other errands to run as well. On the way to Trader Joe's (it was our usual 15-bottle-of-wine run...it's cheap and tasty!), we scoured the area for a small toy shop that might have the game, and EUREKA! (literally), we found one. After parking at Trader Joe's and convincing the parking attendant to let us run down the street quickly (Eric has a convincing wink ;-), we ran into Eureka Puzzles to check out the selection. Annnd selection there was! Do you remember a game you played as a child, but can't seem to find anymore? Well, you could probably find it here, along with any puzzle you'd like, or the expensive backgammon or chess set you want for your game room. There were more games than Eric could handle, and the staff seemed to be knowledgeable about each and every one. Upon being asked, the gentleman that helped us not only found the product immediately among the large display of games, but made suggestions for other games that we might not know about, and also was able to chat about a few of our childhood favorites. You could tell that the people at Eureka truly were passionate about what they were doing. The downsides to this establishment? Though not the biggest deal, when we were in here it was fairly busy...well...busier than we had expected. The ten or so people in the small store made moving around the store precarious (Eric has a tendency to knock things over); but, alas, we were able to secure our game. The second downside is simply price; however, you get what you pay for. We could've sought out a Walmart or Target and probably found the game, but had we been looking for something else, or had a question, I doubt the staff there would have been able to help us as much as the staff at Eureka. Make sure to check your accounts because you'll be spending a bit more! In short...They've found their niche,best toy store we've ever been to, just make sure to bring your wallet! read more

Lets talk about games and puzzle snobbery: The man behind the counter told me that 5000 piece puzzles are rare, and at the same time told me that I should have thought about buying in the summer, not after Christmas. I would think that "Customer Service" isn't something he cares about. Talking down to customers, I guess, is his forte. This is basically just a set of cards that comes in a box about 6"x2"x1", which is tiny compared to most of the other stuff they have. They had two copies left in the store... but they weren't sure where. So both of the people on staff at the time spent about ten minutes searching every nook and cranny for it, until we eventually found it. I went home satisfied, and I'll be more than happy to make the trip back here next time I need a little something with small wooden pieces. read more

This place is really cool. My dad was reunited with Strato-Matic-Baseball. They have this thing were they come to your parties with mechanical puzzles, giant board games, and other fun puzzle related things. They play light music and will moderate your party for you. Dave, the owner, really cares about you. He wants you to have a fantastic time with whatever game or puzzle you buy. I visited a friend in Quincy and really wanted to get my hands on some games. Did some good ol yelp research and decided to try this out. So happy I did. The store is nice and light. Small but packed with games. I didn't look around much (so can't say much about the other half of the store, but I think that part was mostly jigsaw and mechanical puzzles? Probably some chess too) but decided to just ask one of the two guys behind the counter for help by simply saying that I'd like some suggestions for small games (very limited suitcase space!) with good replay value and preferably playable with just two players. One of the guys swiftly showed me to the section with smaller games (right by the oh so tempting super packed big shelf of large board games), asked me what kind of games I liked (strategy vs luck etc) and then told me about some different ones they had. Excellent suggestions and a great variety of games (even small ones!) made it very hard to pick one. I went in to buy one particular game (Gloom) and something else, left with four different games. The two guys working that day were both really nice and chatty. I didn't want to leave! Great atmosphere, super helpful staff, decent pricing... if I lived in the Boston area this shop would be so bad for my wallet and so good for my game shelf. SUCH a cool store! My mom and I were killing time before a dinner reservation when we passed the window and saw a game based on Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth." We went in and were shocked to find SO MANY cool puzzles and games. My whole family loves jigsaw puzzles, and we spent about 15 minutes debating which one to buy. A casual window shopping adventure ultimately led to us spending $159, but it was so worth it. My mom, a teacher, bought lots of cool games to share with her class, and the helpful sales guy "matched us" to new games we would like based on our current preferences. We fessed up to being Scrabble nuts, and thus he introduced us to Bananagrams, and our lives have never been the same. Great, fun, awesome store. read more

I have stopped in here a few times to find interesting games outside from the typically popular ones. You can find things in this store for any age, small children to the adult children at heart! The staff is always friendly and able to provide insight and recommendations. The uniqueness of some of my finds has surprised my friends. In addition to just seeking products they have email groups for game nights etc providing a community of people who enjoy having fun. My experience with Eureka Puzzles has been overall positive. I've come in a few times with my boyfriend to browse and look for games. The first time we came to shop, we were looking for a specific game, and they had it. The staff were friendly and seemed knowledgeable about games, though we were there more for browsing. We were asked if we wanted to join their loyalty program. We are slowly starting to build up quite a games collection. It probably wouldn't have been as easy to do so without access to game shops like this. I also personally appreciate that it doesn't have a Dungeons&Dragons / Comic store vibe (not that I have a problem with that, there is a place for those shops) but it felt very accessible to all kinds of gamers. Normally I wouldn't buy that kind of a game here, but we were in a rush and couldn't wait for Amazon ($16). We were charged $24 for the game. Even as a Mom and Pop store it was still five dollars cheaper at Magic Beans in Coolidge Corner down the street. You're basically paying their Brookline rent. This store has a great selection of board games (much more than your typical monopoly orven imported internationally. The staff also really knew cranium), kids games and puzzles. I think some of their puzzles were even imported internationally. The staff knew everything about every game. Being right before Christmas, I was impressed with how helpful and friendly they still were even through they were very busy. read more
