You need to bring your passport, you don't need a visa if you have an US, UK, UE passport, otherwise, check ahead. Gibraltar is UK territory, so plan accordingly. Fast check out, no issues, sure the guides who planned the trip knew to get us to Gibraltar early and get us out in early afternoon to avoid the crowds. Painless experience, so refreshing!

I was so excited to see Africa, I had to go as soon as we checked in to our hotel. Our hotelier gave us a local map and showed us how to drive along the Plaza del Miramar (on the same-named road), to see a great view! It was so cool! If you are walking through the plaza, there is a viewing platform for even better views! But driving or walking, the views are definitely worth seeking! Prior to this trip, I (and many Americans I know) thought that Gibraltar was the southernmost city in Spain, but, no way José, it is actually Tarifa. I had been through Andalucia years before, as a teen, and had glimpsed the African continent, but had never gotten as close as I did in Tarifa. Plaza del Miramar gave us a great view, even at night! So exciting!

We were staying at the northern end of this beautiful boardwalk for a few days. So walking up and…read moredown this promenade was our daily thing to do. And it's a very nice way to spend some time here. The boardwalk is in really good shape and quite wide, so there's enough space for everybody. Even when it gets darker this place is still busy and feels safe to walk around. The views are stunning and the sunsets even more so. You won't find that many international tourists here, it's mostly locals who stroll around here, which is nice. There are numerous benches integrated in the boardwalk wall in case your legs need a rest. At the northern end there's a very small beach, ideal if your dog wants a quick dip. For the humans I'd recommend the beach at the southern end, right before the port. Also a nice spot to sit and watch the sun going down. The boardwalks runs parallel to the main street, which is busy, but still not really noisy or disturbing. It's a great thing to do when in town.

The station is well organized and there are many vending machines and plenty of seats in the…read morewaiting areas. During the summer it can get very hot and it is almost impossible to breath. I recommend buying something at the bar inside the station, so that you can sit there and enjoy the air conditioning while waiting for your bus. There is also free wifi (network name: Socibus).

It's where Europe meets Africa and it has a bit of both worlds! Breathtaking! I am glad I had some time to spend here, on the way to Ronda. The railway station is in the middle of the city, I took a train to Ronda, but before I was able to walk its streets, explore the great market they have, see the people who inhabit this place, a mix of population, always nice and fascinating. I loved their market, rich in merchandise, smells and local flavors. The streets are cute and charming. Nice views! Algeciras is off the beaten path, but if you are in the area, check it out even for 2 hours, it is so worth it! Very unique!

We drove through Algericas, which is a metropolis for southern Spain, with over 118k people. This…read moreis a huge, sprawling city, famous for its port of imports. It was an amazing sight, worth seeing on our journey. I thought the cargoland in my hometown of Philadelphia was crazy, but the acres and acres of warehouses and cargo containers in Algericas is stunning! The Port of Algeciras is one of the largest in Europe and the 25th largest port in the world! Lots of oil imports! They also have passenger ferries for Morocco. The nearby English territory of Gibraltar is visible from many parts of Algericas.
