Friendly atmosphere kind of like heading back to Mayberry, if you're looking for upscale gourmet experience, better head downtown to Charleston. Got take out there today. The wife had French toast and I got the Heavens to Betsy. Both were delicious. I'm picky about my sausage gravy, and their's is the best in Summerville! Such a shame we did not get a good number here. We were looking for a locals breakfast joint and I think we fond just that. I see other's reviews and thought twice about it but breakfast is one of the easiest meals out there and hard to mess up. First it was the coldest day of the year so far so we got in and every time the door opened we got a cold blast. Not sure how to fix that but what could be fixed is the door would not shut all the way. Some cute kid kept getting up and closing the door every time someone entered or departed. We ordered the Western Omelette and home fries. My wife said no peppers please! The waiter acknowledged this and off she went. So far so good(other than the cold blasts we kept getting). We waited, and waited, and waited. Weird because there was a rush of people behind us but really not many there when we arrived. Not sure why it took so long but it did. And not much attention from the waitress. Not that many people were getting their orders ahead of us. Just slow kitchen. We finally got our meal which we would have sent back due to the abundance of peppers on my wife's omelette but decided against since we had already waited a while. The home fries were possibly one of the worst batches I have had. Not good potatoes. Just kind of dry and not good form. What a great location and this place has huge potential. But it was not this day. Kind of a waste of a morning. Glad the Shopping scene was much better in that area. read more

I've been to the OLD Eva's more times than I can count, and the food was always hot, delicious, and generous portions. The service was always professional, no nonsense, with no flirting going on halfway across the restaurant. But this NEW Eva's today? The ONLY reason I'm giving a 2 star rating is because of the huge and wonderful biscuit, the likes of which I'd never tasted before. It was excellent. Other than that, the chicken and rice daily special was utterly cold and was exactly what it said... miniscule pieces of chicken with brown rice. Nothing else. No gravy, no mushrooms, no flavoring...... nothing. The beans for the Hoppin' John were only half cooked... and when reported, we were told, "You're the third or fourth person to say that today"....., the fried green tomatoes were hot, but they had nearly no coating on them. The sweet potato souffle was stringy and cold. The Buttery Squash was nothing more than a pile of mush. The whole thing was truly a disaster, and I hated that, because (1) I REALLY wanted to continue going to this restaurant, even though Miss Eva is now gone. And (2) I took someone to lunch that had NEVER BEEN to Eva's before. She had always heard such wonderful things! What a TERRIBLE disappointment... for both of us. We won't be back. read more

While I'm sure their food is great, I never had the chance to try it. We walked in at 11:45am, usually the ideal time to get brunch, and were rudely scolded at as they yelled across the restaurant, "CLOSED! WERE CLOSED!" Now, I don't mind if a restaurant closes early, especially on a Sunday but it was their tone that really got me. As they scooted us out they immediately locked the door behind us as if we were street trash kids or something. As a customer service professional I was disgusted by their service. I hope they can improve their customer service to new customers in the future, or close at the time their Yelp profile says (which is 2:00PM, by the way). read more

Was just discussing Eva's with family and friends at a dinner party - my last one here plus other Yelp reviews about them asking someone to move because a "regular" came in and the review about a woman experiencing African American prejudice and not getting good service and everyone laughed and said "no one gets good service at this place". I was NOT a fan of Eva's. We went there after the Sweet Tea Half Marathon because it was right by the finish line. I ordered biscuits and gravy with an egg on the side. The gravy was super watery (gravy needs to be moderately thick in my opinion, at least thicker than water) and the egg was so salty I almost couldn't eat it (I was half marathon famished, so I powered through it with some interesting faces). Additionally, we never received refills on water or other beverages and it wasn't overly busy in the restaurant. We had obviously ran the race (we were still wearing our medals/bibs) so refills would have been QUITE nice.... The 2 people I was with both ordered specific ingredient omelet and neither omelet came out with the correct ingredients, despite them thinking they had just accidentally switched plates with each other. Cute decor on the walls, seats and tables falling apart, walls need a paint job since they were chipping all over the place. The menu was confusing as the lunch was written in messy chalk on the walls, and the breakfast menu was simple. They didn't have any staples and as for the food it was amateur and heavy. We got French toast and it was just fried bread no sugar or cinnamon, and sausages that came with it were more than likely microwaved. Also got the sampler pancakes were very heavy but still okay with 2 scrambled eggs, that were slimy and smothered with cheese and bacon that was either over cooked or old. The plates were plastic like in elementary school and all the mugs were chipped and from different places( one said all state insurance). I went to breakfast there a couple of times and the food was good. I decided to go there for lunch at a little before noon one day and they were out of mostly everything that I wanted to pick from the lunch menu menu. I started with salmon, no salmon. Then I went to chicken with a side of green beans, no green beans. I then decided that I wanted a BLT instead. White or Wheat? I decided on wheat. The waitress came back later and told me that they were out of wheat. Will white be OK? My drinks were already there so I didn't want to just leave. I point to bad management for this. No, no no. Believe the reviews, believe me. Saturday morning around 9:30 - not that busy. Sat down, waited for service, waited. Finally got a coffee (in a dirty cup) and silverware (also dirty - a pattern starts to form). We ordered a simple egg and hash brown breakfast. Nothing fancy. Reviewers in general are prone to exaggeration, mostly unintentional. But we waited over 25 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. When it did, the hashbrowns were white and barely cooked although we have clearly and specifically ordered them well, well, well done. Eggs were runny, sliced tomatoes were mush, in general, it was a sad breakfast for such a wait. "Charming" waitress says "I put well done on the ticket". Did you seriously just blame the cook when your sorry-excuse-for-a-waitress-self walked them from the window back to the table?!?!? On the way out, Mr. Muscle pulled her aside and calmly said that it was not cool blaming the cook when SHE shouldn't have brought them to the table until they were well done. She said.. and I quote.. "Well, everyone has their opinion". WTF?? No, its not an opinion, is a FACT. They were not cooked. Life is too short for this kind of stupid. Even Bojangles can make a crisp potato cake.
