I went here with a friend and she had booked the first appointments of the day for us. I had a facial and she had the massage. We were about 20 minutes early to our appointments. We were greeted warmly and given a tour of the facilities. We didn't have much time before our appt so we changed into robes and waited in the relaxing area. We were both called back to our rooms on time. My facialist was wonderful. She asked if I wanted a play by play or just to relax and I said a little of both. The room is dark and the bed heated so it's nice to relax but there are also so many aromas and textures being added to your skin that it's fun to know what is happening. I had the basic facial and I felt like I was well taken care of. Cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing were all included. The aromas were wonderful. I loved every minute of the service. My friend and I met up again in the relaxing room and decided to try the hot tub next. Don't forget to bring your swimsuit to enjoy the water. I also gave the steam room a go and it was, well sweaty, which is perfect. I was the first person in and it didn't take long to heat up. It was so steamy in there it was hard to find the door. They also have salt water baths but I didn't try those. I was given a list of key products used in my facial at the the end. I was also asked if 20% gratuity was acceptable to add to my service. The building and area are beautiful both inside and out. It's wonderfully decorated and emits a relaxing vibe. The music was more big band than relaxing spa which was a little odd to me but being in the morning it was a nice pick me up. Great experience. read more

I was gifted a surprise trip to Greenlake for my birthday by my husband. This was totally out of the box for both of us, but I was excited to stop at Evensong. I gave this place a 2 because I was mostly happy with my services. A facial and a massage. The staff was friendly, but clearly did not read my notes on my 'please don't massage this area' note which I won't go further into, but for a few hundred bucks you think they'd look at the memo. Overall, the rest of the experience was super blah and mediocre. The 'relaxation' room is a glorified waiting room with stained couches and a few magazines strewn about that people can sit in between appointments. The furniture in the locker room also appeared to need some replacing - gross. The facility could definitely use some updating throughout in general. We went here for a relaxing couple's getaway and were surprised to find that both locker rooms housed separate steam rooms, whirl pool etc. It would be have been nice to hang out together between appointments rather than being shunned to separate areas to sit alone. We will not be returning - this place is outrageously expensive for an okay experience. read more

DO NOT go here for a haircut. The beauticians are not able to suggest anything. Unless you come in with a picture, they are lost. I wanted someone to suggest a style that would go with my hair type and facial type. When I made the appointment, I explained what I needed and asked if they had an experienced stylist who could do what I needed. They assured me that they did. However, when I arrived, my stylist, the only one there, had graduated from beauty school the month before, and had no idea how to proceed. The manager stepped in, suggested a style that would compliment my curly hair. After the cut it was evident to her and me that the style would not work with my hair. When I asked what haircut she would suggest now, she said she didn't know, and walked away. They considered my appointment done. The spa itself is lovely, especially the relaxation room. However, the prices are insanely high, way out of line. I live in downtown Chicago and am used to high prices, but they are over the top! What really bothered me was the fact that I was charged $15.00 EXTRA to use the spa facilities. That should complimentary if you are spending $100 plus on a service. I went here to get my hair DID before a wedding I was standing-up in at the Heidel House. The building and grounds are beautiful, gorgeous! Though, it was a bit strange to sign a waiver type form before a hair-do. The glass room I got my hair done in was originally used for yoga, with a large unobstructed window overlooking the lush yard. They had set up a makeshift salon, with two office chairs, a table, and a mirror. The receptionist was a bit confusing. I asked if I could pay with cash, she said NO. I almost freaked, like if you cant take cash then what kind of business is this? Then she said, "Wait, yes, ok you can....." Confusing. Maybe she was just flustered. A bit overpriced for sitting in a hot old yoga room. But it was a nice building to spend the time in. The hairstyle was.....OK. read more

When you stay at the Heidel House Resort (across the street), you can get a general access pass to the Evensong Spa for $10 (normally $20). With the pass, you can use the whirlpool and steam room, walk around the indoor labyrinth (not as interesting as it sounds), and sit in the relaxation room (see my photo). The whirlpool and steam room are accessible via a very nice locker/shower room. You are given a robe and slippers when you arrive, but bring a swimsuit because I think it's still generally socially unacceptable to be naked in public places. Even though we didn't take advantage of any other spa services, the general access pass was totally worth the $10. I would definitely visit again especially if the spa isn't busy. read more

The services were just fine but be careful when it comes to paying. They automatically add a 20% tip without telling you but they add the tip on top of the $20 service fee for using the facility. More importantly, when I booked my facial over the phone they offered me a 30 minute neck/shoulder massage for $50 due to a January special however upon checkout they tried charging me the original $100. They argued that the special was only for weekdays and wanted to know who I spoke too. I asked them to check their computer system as that information should be listed. They said sometime the receptionists login in as other people and they couldn't adjust the pricing. Upon further conversation they said I would need to wait for 30 minutes before I could speak to a manager. After suggesting that this was the sort of thing that yelp reviews were made of the gentleman finally agreed to adjust the price to what I was quoted over the phone. In addition, my friend got a $70 (50 minute) pedicure and it took them 30 minutes to remove her 'no chip' which should have taken 5 minutes. So with the $20 'service fee' she paid big bucks for a polish change- no more. read more

I treated my wife to a spa afternoon at Evensong for her birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My satisfaction started well before our arrival, as I talked several times with Barb at the front desk to book, and understand, how spas all work (I've never booked and/or visited a spa before). She was extremely helpful prior to and during our stay. My wife and I relaxed as we waited for our couple's Inner Journey Massage, and enjoyed the massage. The interior space was calming and comfortable. I likened the 50-minute massage to a long weekend -- very relaxing, but too short (it wasn't too short, per se, but just felt that way). My wife then had a pedicure while I enjoyed the steam room, and got cleaned up for the rest of our day outside of the spa. The staff was helpful, knowledgeable, professional and pleasant. While we're not from the area, we definitely will keep Evensong Spa in our minds for any future spa days. Being our first time at a spa, I can't compare it to any others, but we certainly will judge others to Evensong Spa, which set the bar high. read more

Initially my mom and I found it very peaceful and relaxing, and enjoyed the meditation maze. But the services are just not worth the price. After my pedicure I immediately regretted having my prior polish taken off. They seem to have a lot of the same technicians doing multiple services rather than having everyone specialize in a particular service. Hot tub in the dressing room was nice. Food is pretty terrible - after the first time I figured it was just an off day, but not sure that's the case. Stale chips and really bruised/old strawberries were my main bothers but the rest of the menu and ingredients could really use an upgrade too. The front desk could have been a bit friendlier. I recieved 3 treatments, a renevator facial, an eybrow wax, and a hair conditioning treatment there, in addition to two yoga sessions over a weekend get away. It was wonderful! I especially enjoyed the yoga it was truly the highlight of my visit to the spa. The yoga instructor Nicole is fabulous and really takes the time to walk through all the yoga poses and tailored the yoga class to suit my individual needs. It was a fabulous yogatastic experience to say the least. I also ate lunch at the spa with my husband. we both ordered the turkey wrap. It was delicious and fresh dressed with a wonderful cranberry sauce. The portion sizes were larger than I would have expected! I ordered a fruit smoothie to go with my lunch that was very good and fruity delicious. My facial was super relaxing and lasted as long as the brocure said it would last. The spa attendant who rendered the service was very gentle with my face and also very knowledgable with the products she was using and she was well versed with some of the general chemistry behind some of the chemicals and natural substances that I was asking about. Very pleasent experience. My hair treatment was so-so. I dont think I will have another one if I come back there again. I dont really think it was worth it. The spa attendant who rendered this service was not very knowledgable nor was she very good at hair styling. Although she was very nice and friendly and gave good advice about things to do in the area. As for the eyebrow wax. The spa attendant who gave me the wax did an excellent job! Painless as much as an eybrow wax can be! SHe even gave me an eyebrow haircut! Overall a great relaxing experience! NIce people who are there. Very nice facillities. Clean clean! Relaxing atmosphere! A friend and I went to Evensong last weekend, I had a mixed experience. My friend booked massages and pedicures for both of us about a month prior to going, but when we called to confirm our reservations the receptionist (rudely) informed us that we both had reservations for massages at 1:30 but they only had my friend down for the 2:30 pedicure. When we arrived around 1:20 the receptionist who greeted us was rushing because "we arrived quite late" and then quickly rushed us into the locker rooms to get changed, and then rushed us off to meet our massage therapists. I was put off by this as the whole idea of a spa is to be relaxed and slow down. The building is gorgeous, my massage was wonderful, and the relaxation room was quiet and peaceful. After our massages it turns out that we did in fact only have one appointment for a pedicure due to their scheduling mistake, no one at the front desk apologized to either of us, or tried to fit one of us in somewhere else, or offer us an explanation or anything...everyone acted as though it was obviously OUR mistake which is not how I would expect to be treated at a place charging hundreds of dollars for their services. My friend graciously let me have the pedicure and Shelly did my nails, she did a wonderful job and after hearing how we were treated at the front desk finished my toenails and re-polished my friends free of charge, which honestly saved this review from being mostly negative. Went here for a little birthday getaway and thoroughly enjoyed everything the spa had to offer. The woman who did my facial as well as my pedicure was super sweet and did an amazing job..I've never felt more relaxed in my entire life! When checking out, the receptionist offered us samples of the products that had been used which was great. Prices can be a bit high, but it's also a touristy area being on Green Lake and across from the Heidel House so I wasn't bothered. Can't wait to go back for another visit! read more

I went to the Evensong Spa with a group of friends last weekend. The facility was beautiful and staff was friendly and welcoming...That is where the positive part of the review ends! A friend and I had a hand and foot deep conditioning treatment. Honestly, we chose it because it was one of the only services we did not see as EXCESSIVELY over-priced. Coming from Chicago, I am aware of how much services cost, and compared Evensong's prices to The Dana, Elizabeth Arden and Trump -they exceed those prices anywhere from $15-$25 for a manicure. The service consisted of a very short (but nice) hand and foot rub and then paraffin mitts. We were left by the massage therapists, only to have them return 20 minutes later to remove them. The REAL problem came when it came time to pay. The spa added a $15 charge as an access fee because I only purchased one service! I pointed out that this was not mentioned when booking the appointment and that it was WRONG to hit people with a fee like that. The gentleman "helping us" said sorry and he would make sure to mention it to future customers! I pointed out that if I had known about the added fee, I might have signed up for another service (who wants to just throw $ away for nothing?) or, may have opted out of getting spa services altogether! Either way, I wouldn't have spent $70 for a combined 10 minute hand and foot rub! THIS WAS VERY WRONG AND VERY INSULTING and NO attempts were made by the unapologetic man to rectify this! I was so upset and needless to say, I will not be returning to the Evensong Spa! Between me and my friends, we probably spent close to $500 that day. Instead of adjusting or waiving the fee (which should not have been added in the first place) they have now not only lost my business, but my other friends as well! read more

I had a massage here and spent the better part of a day utilizing the spa's various offerings. Unlike some other spas I have visited, other than the relaxation and dining areas, everything is divided by gender. In the women's area, there was a whirpool, shower and sauna, all of which were clean and lovely. Because so much of this was gender-divided, this may not be the best place for a romantic getaway. It may be better suited for a girls' weekend. My massage was one of the best I've ever had. My therapist was a fantastic listener and really customized my experience. I have less lovely things to say about the food service I experience. One thing to know is that no food is made on site, or least that's how it was explained to me. You order from a team member at the spa who then sends the information to a nearby hotel that then makes and sends the food to the spa. On the day I visited, it look more than an hour to have a dish delivered to me, and it was incorrect when it arrived. But, at that point, I didn't want to wait another hour to have it sent back and a correct order to arrive. On top of it, each time I acquired service, it was by me coming to the food service counter and asking for help. At no point while sitting at a table at the restaurant did a server approach me proactively. When paying this much to be a spa, I truly do expect more. 5 out of 5 stars for the spa, 1 out of 5 stars for the food service at the spa read more

Please check your bill when you check out. When I was checking out, I told them that I wanted to tip my aesthetician 18% due to 10 minutes of her sitting in the room with me doing nothing while waiting for a exfoliating mask to set in...massage my shoulders, leave the room so I can have quiet time, but please DON'T just sit there!! Ian at check out said it was fine so he told met the total and I paid. After he handed me back my itemized bill, I looked at it and noticed that he added gratuity to the USAGE fee!! So I was paying 18% for my aesthetician and then 18% on the $15 usage fee! When I brought this to Ian's attention, he couldn't figure out how to take the $2.70 off the bill so he refunded me the $15 usage fee. The only reason I am giving this experience 3 stars instead of 2 is because my aesthetician was knowledgeable about the service. For the amount of money Evensong charges for services and usage fees, it would be beneficial to them to be upfront with their customers about usage fees and other charges. When booking an appointment, any staff member booking appointments over the phone should have a checklist of information to tell the potential customer. read more

My sister and I came here for my birthday weekend and I received the bamboo massage. My therapist was nice but unfortunately did not know how to utilize the utensils. She rubbed oil all over me for basically 50 minutes. I have received many massages and this by far was one that is the lowest on the list. She asked about pressure and I said she could use more pressure but it was not adjusted. Not only was I rubbed with oil and bamboo insufficiently but the therapist breath smelled of red onions. If you are going to do a massage and you're working on head neck and shoulders make sure you do not eat anything offensive because I held my breath the whole time she was breathing. That massage left a horrible taste in my mouth being that it cost so much I was expecting the quality of the service to match what was being paid regardless of the atmosphere. When it came to the bill I was little taken back by the 20% tip they add on and facility fee? If you are receiving a service it's quite tacky to see that on a bill . It should be considered complimentary or included. When asked if you want to keep the 20% tip it really puts the person on the spot and it becomes uncomfortable. You should make it the customers choice not one that you impose. I want to make sure that you are aware of that truly makes me lose confidence in this place as a consumer and when I go back to work on Monday and everyone asks how my weekend was this is exactly what I will talk about and from what I see many other people talk about. It makes your establishment seem greedy for money and it takes away from the serene atmosphere. My sister paid for the services so I did not want to complain I wanted to leave because I was so dissatisfied by the service and then taken over the edge by the bill at the end. When you go to a spa it's normal to utilize showers and a waiting room I understand you have other things like the pool but to tack on a fee plus a 20% tip is a bad way to bring on customers that come from far away. This was my husband's first time at a spa, as well as his first massage. It is not at Heidel House, it is just down the road next to the golf course, which is across the street from Heidel. Very warm and inviting atmosphere. When you are taken to the locker rooms, you are given a robe and slip ons, and the locker rooms are gorgeous. Changing room, digitally locking lockers, saunas, whirlpool, seating area, toilets, and shower stalls. The counters and stalls are stocked with various beauty products (shaving cream, razors, pads, tampons, etc...). After changing, you are taken to the relaxation room. Gorgeous view and comfy chairs, with ice cold water to enjoy. My husband scheduled a deep therapy massage and I had a prenatal massage. Our massage therapists were great and I honestly nearly fell asleep at one point with how relaxed I was. My husband enjoyed it and even said he could see why people get massages a lot lol. After the massages, we were allowed to take our time with getting our robes and slippers back on before we were escorted back to the locker rooms. Absolutely no rush. Very enjoyable experience and relaxing, not a five star due to, for longer time and 40-50 dollars less, we could have had the same quality massages less than 10 minutes from our home, 2 hours from the spa. I really enjoyed my time at EvenSong. It's a lovely spa tucked amongst farmlands overlooking a woodsy golf course. We stayed at the Heidel House across the street. When booking our appointments, I thought this was a little pricey for the services. The staff was very attentive and atmosphere was very serene. The locker room was very relaxing. When changed into our robes and slippers are we're off to the Relaxation Room until called for our appointments. I started off with a Honey and Cream Pedicure. The treatment was good, but not fantastic. The lady I had did a very good job, but it just didn't have the wow! factor. My toes are cute. I got a day package, so I thought I was getting a mani too for the price, but it was extra. Since I was not that impressed with the pedi, I skipped it and moved onto my facial. My peptide facial was divine! The room, lighting, warmth of the table was perfect. The lady was very nice and explained all of the products that she was going to use and what they do. The foot, arm and scalp massage she gave me was worth every penny I thought I was over spending. My face looked great and my skin feels amazing. Lunch in the Cafe was yummy, my girlfriends lunch was a little cold. All the other perks of spending the day at a spa were awesome as well. Over all, this spa very very clean and well maintained. It doesn't have a pretentious feel to it. The whirlpool and steam room were awesome and I always enjoys the little treats at the end of having a very well stocked supply of shampoos, lotions and essentials for ending your day. I'm very disappointed with Evensong. Going to a spa with all of your friends should be a pleasurable experience. My experience there was nothing but unpleasant. To begin, Barb, the receptionist, and a couple of other staff members were unhelpful and rude. Once the pedicurist was ready for me at 11:30 am for my $70 service (also a 50 min service), she soaked my feet for 10 min, then took 30 minutes to remove my no chip nail polish (which costs another $15 for removal). My friends have all had no chip polish removed in 5 min. This was my first time having it removed and was shocked by the amount of time it took. It left essentially no time for anything else but a polish change. I signed up for a red velvet pedicure which was supposed to be an extensive mix of exfoliation, massaging, and basic nail shaping and scrubbing. My service ended on time. When I spoke to the manager, they wanted to charge me $85 for that red velvet pedicure and removal of no chip polish. All in all, $85 for a polish change is ludicrous! read more
