The veg momo was a bit underwhelming and did not stand out compared to the other dishes. Also, the veg biryani turned out to be quite spicy even though we had specifically requested mild spice level. When you ask any local in town for curry recommendations, you'll usually be pointed to one of three places--and the person recommending it is often very loyal to their favorite. I've been to all three and regularly visit two of them, with Everest being my least favorite. There are a few reasons it ranks at the bottom for me, the main one being the food. Compared to its competitors, I find it to be subpar. The dishes tend to lack depth of flavor, and despite trying several menu items, they just haven't quite nailed the seasoning or spice levels. The service has always been friendly, with no issues there, and the restaurant itself is fine--nothing special, more of a hole-in-the-wall kind of place. We ordered takeout to eat at our hotel as we passed through town during a cross-country road trip. So, I can't comment on the location, though I can comment on the delicious food. The Chicken Korma was the highlight of the meal. Deliciously creamy and perfectly spicy. The Baigan Bharta -- an eggplant dish -- and the garlic naan were also very yummy. The Daal Makhani was well-made but needed more salt. We also ordered the kids' mango chicken for our daughter. This dish was specifically on the kid's menu and I went ahead and added a note to the online order for this dish to have "NO SPICE." Unfortunately, it was the absolute SPICIEST thing we've tasted in years, and we love spice! My daughter could not eat it at all and we were given a full serving size, which makes me think we were given someone else's mango chicken. The quality of the food and the spices and ingredients used convinced everyone in my family at first bite that the food here was in a class above the likes of the other Indian/Nepalese offerings in the area. In fact, after trying it once, we saved Everest Cuisine to be the place we went to on our last night in Rapid City so that we would have a good meal and memorable send off before leaving for home the following day and for the second time, they did not disappoint! Now, the decor is not as fancy as say a Kathmandu - its more low key, humble, and quiet, which I mostly prefer anyways. What's most important to me, though, is the food and its overall quality because I don't go to restaurants to eat ceiling tiles and chairs and neither does anybody else...I think. Also, the service is very attentive and friendly. The lady who owns or runs the restaurant waited on us mostly and was a very, very pleasant person. Main course, mixed grilled, the signature dish according to my server, was served sizzling hot and piled high with food. Wonderful presentation. But, the lamb, chicken leg, and chicken thigh (I think it was a thigh) were overcooked, dry, and not tasty. The veggies were tasty and well-cooked, but the shrimp and cut up chicken, although cooked fine, were quite plain and lacked flavor. Service? Friendly, but slow and not attentive. Hiw so? Tea served lukewarm, not hot. No refill offered. Water glass not refilled. Server got busy talking to a guest at the register as I awaited the check (which is calculated at the register, as it turns out). Reasonable prices. Oddly, the server, who checked me out at the register, closed out the tab and did not give me an opportunity to give her a tip. I thought that maybe the tip had already been included but when I looked at the receipt as I drove off, I saw that there was no tip added. I had high expectations, eat Indian cuisine regularly, and was really looking forward to this dinner. I've traveled the world and was raised in Los Angeles so finding good traditional food outside LA proves difficult most times. This was our third time here and it never disappoints! All the food was delicious and the portion sizes were actually enough to get you full! We tried the Bhutan bharta (a creamy eggplant based with peas) and were blown away by the flavor. The Nepalese chicken curry, lamb biryani and mixed grill all were amazing as well! Outstanding Indian/Nepalese restaurant in downtown Rapid City. Don't be fooled by the exterior: it is warm and inviting inside. My son and I had the Nepali Indian Curry medium spicy with a mango chutney side to add -- incredibly tasty and crave worthy! My wife had the Chicken Paleo -- also great. Mango lassies were perfect. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Ate here twice during our 10 day visit as this place deserves its #1 Tripadvisor rating in Rapid City. Food made me sick to my stomach after giving this place a second chance! Context provided below: Ate here about a year and some change ago with a disappointing outcome. The food was bland and the service was very slow. I decided to not eat here anymore after that experience. Flash forward to today I ate here again with some friends hoping the experience from last year was just a fluke only to see that the food has gotten even worse and the service was just as bad if not worse. Service took forever again, our group had to ask several times for missing items, host brought out the food with their thumb in the food, the chicken was overcooked and tasted funny, the mango chicken curry had no notes of mango or curry spices, and to make matters worse the food made me sick after only a couple bites. Ended up feeling much better after a bout of vomiting and cold sweats! This place is not worth the trouble. Truly. This is by far the worst Indian/napol food we have ever had. We skipped the Kathmandu due to the long wait and quaility has diminished as well. Well tonight we ordered from Everest for the first time before we get on the road and what a HUGE mistake. We ordered online given 30 minute pick up time got there at 31 minutes and 3 minutes down the road to the house to find the chicken-65 was soggy and cold, the rice cold, the Mango Chicken a mix of chicken with what tasted like dirt when bitting down. The mix appetizer was old and hard. Please see video below. After biting into the mango chicken and getting what felt to be dirt I gagged and stopped eaten. When you come to this charming restaurant keep your eyes peeled. It's easy to miss. Parking is a little tricky because of its location. It's like parallel parking on the freeway. That being said, once you walk inside you will be met by the most heavenly aromas and spices known to mankind. If your palate can handle spicier sauces than ketchup and mayonnaise you're in for a treat. You can have the level of spiciness tailored to your tastes. I had lamb curry on the higher end of the scale and it was awesome! Not very spicy at all and the flavors are what I expected them to be. The dining area is small and unassuming from the exterior but it is cozy and comfortable. This is one of our favorite places in town. I was actually staying in Deadwood, where vegan food is a myth. So traveling 40 minutes to an hour for nourishment became the norm during my SD stay. Luckily, Yelp led me to this place, where I was able to grab a couple of to go dishes. ALOO SAAG - They made a vegan aloo saag for me and it was pretty good. They give you a decent amount of food too for the price. GOBI MANCHURIAN - Their version of this dish, which oddly isn't on the online menu, blew me away. Tender cauli-florets covered in perfectly crisp battered coating and dressed in a most deliciously flavorful sauce. This is the poster child of what the perfect execution of Gobi Manchurian tastes like, for me anyway. The portion seemed to be more of an appetizer than an entree. I wish I had gotten two orders. The employees were nice and helpful. They are also knowledgeable when it comes to vegan cuisine. The menu says to ask your server about their "many vegan" options. I'd like to see them offer a vegan section of the menu instead, even if just online, since I understand how costly the print out would be. This place was the saving grace after our unpleasant experience at pretentious Independent Ale House in Downtown Rapid City! Extremely humble outside (wasn't even sure if they were open since the door was shut and seemed somewhat dark), but the food was phenomenal! They were open for indoor dining so we got to sit down and enjoy our meal. We ordered chicken tikka masala and lamb saag curries and both were very tasty. The chicken pieces were so soft! Curries were both seasoned well and the portions are VERY hearty. It come with rice (yay!!) and the naan was delicious - not too doughy and not too thin. This was such a good meal to sit down to after driving around all day. We had plenty of leftovers to enjoy afterwards. So glad to see a small business doing so well during these times. Originally, the five of us wanted to check out Katmandhu Bistro, however, they were closed that day (Wednesday). There is a sign on the door of Katmandhu suggesting patrons to check out their sister restaurant, Everest Cuisine. We went to Everest expecting lunch buffet, but the waiter told us they do not serve lunch buffet (although there are signs that they have lunch buffet and buffet price is also listed on the menu) - not quite sure why, and we were too hungry, so we did not really bother to ask. We ordered: - Tandoori Mix Grill ($19.99) which comes with chicken, chicken tikka, lamb and shrimp. This dish was delicious. The meat was moist and tasty. There are some meat juices on the plate. - Shrimp Biryani (Shrimp Fried Rice). This is my next favorite dish after the tandoori mix grill. They were pretty generous with the shrimps. - Chicken Tikka Masala. The plate was pretty small and they charged $5 extra for a bowl of tikka masala sauce. I think it is too expensive. - Momo Chicken (Dumpling). These ones are just okay. - Garlic Naan ($3.5). Can't really taste the garlic. Overall, pretty good for restaurant in Rapid City. I have found the best places to eat don't usually have a fancy new looking building. Traveling from So California we have had excellent Indian food at home so wanted to try it in So Dakota because it sounded good and we missed our home restaurant! So we came here to try our usual favorites Tiki Masala, Curry Goat, Saag Paneer, Lamb Korma and garlic Naan. Wow was I impressed and surprised at the fantastic quality and taste! I have had authentic home made Indian food and this place is top of the list for matching the homemade! Highly, highly recommend Everest Cuisine!
