Pets at Home

When I left home, my pets all stayed with my mum. It's their home and they're happy there so I…read morewould never dream of uprooting them and bringing them to Cardiff. Still, I miss them all like crazy and none of the places I've lived in here allow pets so there's this huge animal-shaped hole in my life. Pets at Home provides some relief from this. Firstly, and most obviously, I get to go and enjoy the cute animals they have there. My favourites are the guinea pigs and the Roborovski hamsters, and I can quite easily spend a good hour in there debating whether my landlord would notice if I bought one. I am eternally disappointed that there are no mice here, but any cute animals will amuse me well enough. Secondly, since I miss my cats and dog so much, and feel pretty bad for abandoning them, I regularly pop in to buy them treats and toys to take home with me. The range of beds is particularly good, which is handy when you have a dog as destructive as mine. This branch also has a Companion Care Vetinary Centre (02920 232 957).
I'm a sucker for pet shops, and I particularly love this chain of pet supermarkets. Although you…read morecan often pick up bits and bobs at little independent pet shops, when you need several things it's often easier to head straight to Pets at Home. My only complaint is that this branch (perhaps it's the same at all Pets at Home branches?) don't sell the dog food I buy (Harrington's), so I still have to pick that up elsewhere. For pick 'n' mix dog treats, squeaky toys, and accessories such as shampoo, bowls, leads and collars, however, Pets at Home has far more choice than most smaller pet shops. The staff all seem real animal-lovers, and if you take your dog in with you they often ask if they can give it a treat or two. Just be prepared for your dog to get into a right frenzy over all the food smells luring them from aisle to aisle - oh, and watch them if you go near the rabbit and guinea pig enclosures!
City Aquatics Cardiff

This specialist aquarium shop is located in Leckwith on Sloper Road, and specialises in supplying…read moretanks, fish and plants for aquariums as well as pond supplies. They have marine, corals, tropical, fancy cold water and oddballs, with livestock imported every week from all over the world. If you're really interested in getting a serious aquarium, these people know far more about all the kit and care than the likes of pet superstores such as Pets At Home, which sell only a limited range of aquariums and marine life. City Aquatics is a one stop shop where you can get everything in one go, along with advice from experts - whether you're shopping for aquariums, marine products, lighting, plants, medications, water treatment, fish food, air pumps or whatever else! Keeping a tropical aquarium can be quite a balancing act, if you want to keep your water clear and your fish healthy, so it's worth talking to an expert if you're a first-timer.

Personal service and good advice, plus they really do care about the Birds and small furrys they have for sale. No, I wasn't treated to a bag of hay or a chew toy, my present was the furry kind, a hamster to be precise. I was really nervous (the last hamster incident I was involved in ended in blood and being mentally scarred for life) but the owner was absolutely lovely. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, giving us a full history of his current stock of hamsters and stressing that he only uses particular breeders. As this goes for all the small animals he sells, this means that customers can rely on healthy, happy and docile animals. As well as the hamster in question, we also bought all the necessary paraphernalia that one needs to take care of it. Once again the owner gave us expert knowledge on what kind of cage we needed and once we got the hamster home I rang this shop up practically every other day for advice and he was nothing but patient. Definitely recommend this place for all your pet needs, particularly if you are looking to buy a healthy, friendly pet.

I went to meet the cat and was told by several volunteers there that I was very brave! alarm bells started to go off but I met the cat in question and he seemed good, came up to me allowed me to per him. I said to Christine that I will come back and see him again but she was very insistent I took him that day. I ended up agreeing and paying a lot more than the suggested donation. Once I got the cat home it quickly became clear why I was warned. He was hostile from day one and hissed and growled upon approach. this is normal initially but despite trying everything in my power to bond with the cat for several weeks the situation stayed the same. I contacted the Moggery only to told to try tuna... I stuck things out for almost five months before deciding to take him back for everyone's sake. I took him back and emailed the Moggery about meeting any other cats and they just stopped replying. Be cautious.

The woman who runs it is absolutely lovely, and has a lot of rules for who are and who aren't allowed to adopt a cat or kitten, so that they go to the best homes. I've volunteered here myself, and the people I worked with were all lovely, so I recommend it for all cat lovers.

They have a lot of stuff you would expect such as leads, bowls, cages and feeders. It is a pet paradise. If you need supplies for your pet then this should be your first place to come.

Tthe reason I went to Pet…read moreWorld is because I just happened to be out with my friend who was getting supplies for his Hamster. Overall the stall has large selection of stock including cages, toys, treats, food and of course animals. I had visited once before and if memory serves they had kittens for sale but sadly they weren't there this time. There was however an array of birds which were sat about chirping and my friend was able to get some nutty seedy type things for the Hamster which weren't that bad for value. This shop can be easily located on the balcony in the market so there should be no problem in finding it if you find yourself in need of straw and sawdust.
