Cool little brewery in Crete. Evil Horse was better than expected. It's kind of a small place but there's apparently enough room for events and things. Among these are fun stuff including live music. The beer is the main attraction of course, and this has a surprising amount of variety. As was our luck we got here when there was some kind of festival. It had a cover charge to get in and see some live music. They let you come and go as long as you had a wristband. At the bar there wasn't that bad of a line. We ordered a few beers, which is the only thing they have on the menu. It's about $5 a pint for most beers. There's a good amount of styles. I liked the Holsteiner the most of what we had. This was refreshing, and hoppy but not a lot. Best things of course is the beers. It often has events going on like music and trivia, so come back often and have fun. There's no food here, but you can get some at the restaurant called The Loft, which is upstairs. read more

I have never heard of a brewery forcing you to buy their growler in order to get one filled. Great local spot to hang with friends and drink great beer! We came with a group to watch a few bands. I tired a flight to get a taste of what they had to offer. I liked all of my choices but my favorite was the hopple IPA. Someone else in my group had the off-the-menu hazy IPA which was awesome! I would definitely order that next time. This is a pretty solid place overall for the area. It can just use a little something more. To start, there's a great selection of beers. Good flight options. And it's a really nice atmosphere to sit and drink with friends. I love that they have the old Crete Bowling Alley sign! However, the service is very meh. And I came for trivia the other night, only for it to be cancelled when I showed up. I've come before for trivia and it was packed - no one showed up the night I came for the second time unfortunately. I appreciate though that they're at least trying to bring fun events to the area. As others have mentioned, there's no food served here. You can order from upstairs - and I'd highly recommend the deep dish pizza. Takes awhile to cook but it's really tasty. Didn't get to spend that much time here since it was nearing closing time but I would definitely recommend it and would come check it out again. So, my wife and I travel a great deal and make it a point to try out brewing companies wherever we find ourselves in the country. Evil Horse (right up there with Dark Heart in Sacramento) is absolutely one of our favorites. We have sampled all of their beers from IPA to lager to Kolsch to Porter to Bock to Brown to ESB to Rye (you get the point....AMAZING selection) and there simply is not a bad beer among them...seriously. Our current favorites are the Hazy IPA and the Winterbock but you simply can't go wrong. That plus the place has a super cool and friendly groove and awesome interior. I know, who would have thought some of the best beer out there would be made by a little brewing company in Crete Illinois but man-oh-man this is a great place to check out. read more

Great spot! We tried multiple beers in order to find one to take home in a growler and trust me it was a hard choice. The decor is very welcoming with lots of rustic reclaimed wood. When we were there live music was set up in the corner. Their flight boards are very pretty and you can tell the bartenders know and appreciate their beers. read more

For what they lack in food (they don't serve food FYI) they make up in Beer. Their in-house (never keg-ed) craft brews are amazing (AND CHEAP, $5 for a Tall)! Really disappointed. We drove over half an hour to come and try the beers. Arrived at 10:45pm on a Saturday night with a party of 6 people. The advertised closing time is midnight- so plenty of time for a beer or two. A party of 3 people came in just before us, and two more after us. So all together, 11 people ready to have a drink there. The bartender said she already called last call and we couldn't get a drink. We mentioned the advertised 12pm closing, that we drove a ways to get there, and even asked if we could all just get one beer. It was a hard NO from the staff. So all 11 people left. Again, this was a Saturday night, over an hour from the advertised closing time, and we drove a long way. I don't think I will give this brewery another chance. read more

I wasn't a beer fan before stopping here but tried a Flight of 4 and now I'm a convert! They have an ever changing menu of beer "flavors", my 2 Faves were the Blueberry and Ginger flavored. They schedule special event nights.....I've been there for both the Bingo the Bunco......take some friends, drink beer & have a blast! The crowd ranges in age from 20s thru mid 30s & it is definitely more dude heavy, so Single Millennial ladies, get on over there stat! Cons: They seem to be understaffed......you might stand in a queue at the bar 8 deep and wait, and wait and wait. No one really seems to wait on the tables. #firstworldproblems NO FOOD!!!! As others have stated, you can phone orders to the Loft restaurant upstairs and they will bring it down. The food is good but the wait times can be exhaustive. UPDATE 2018 - They need to open the pocket book and have more than one bartender working on busy nights. First and foremost the staff are the laziest. They will not leave the back of the bar and wait on a table what so ever. They are pretty rude most of the time. The acoustics in there are horrible. It is so loud as soon as it gets a dozen customers. Everyone tries to talk louder than the next and you cant hear the people at your own table. The beer is pretty damn good. read more

This brewery is brand new located in downtown Crete. It's an old bowling alley but you'd never know it. Inside its beautiful. Lots of seating. Great beers. The Trot Hopple is my favorite beer so far. There's some sandwich choices available. So far so good. Let's hope it stays this way. read more

Totally unexpected in the best possible way. A friend and I were passing through the area and on a whim decided to stop for a quick beer before heading home for the evening. Inside, we discovered one of the most approachable, personable, cozy and interesting places I've been to in the last few years. First, there were dogs on the patio. That's a win. Second, they had open mic night and everyone was disarmingly friendly and welcoming. Third, their bartender Taylor was attentive, charismatic and knowledgeable. Fourth, the actual beers (came for 1, stayed for 3) were delicious and priced at a great value. Granted, on Sundays it's apparently $1 off drafts, but still, full price would have been a good value. Lastly, the decor is alot of reclaimed nostalgic items like the Crete bowling alley sign, or the bar top is an actual bowling lane. The stars really align for this place; good on them. I have dealt with her before in the past and she was still the same unpleasant person. Good atmosphere, plenty of beer selections for all taste buds. there's a restaurant called The Loft upstairs I believe you can get food brought down I did see some people that brought in some outside food from a local pizza joint. Not sure if that's supposed to mean that the pizza upstairs isn't any good. Was it pretty good crowd beer price was good three bucks for any size draft. I tried the leaping bull, which I would compare to a blue moon both of which I really enjoy be a great beer with a burger. There was some folks playing cornhole in the Brewing area, and me being from out of town I didn't feel like I could have just jumped into a game, not really sure how all that stuff worked and there was only one person working and. behind the bar. I would've like to have played a game or two while enjoying the beers. If there had been some wait staff that I could have asked it would have made the whole experience seem a little more friendly. I will definitely go back next time I'm in town and if I was a local this would be a regular watering hole for me. they've got some bars swag as well t-shirts hats stickers tin signs magnets. Bar service is great, table service is hit or miss. The beers are a bit overrated in my opinion. Out of the handful of co-workers I brought here none of them could find a beer they enjoyed. Evil Horse Brewing Company really showed themselves to be EVIL. Poor customer service and I felt a hint of racism and that didn't sit well with me. First time here with my husband and upon arrival it was not crowed so we were there to eat and drink .. we sat there a while at table before we were informed the kitchen part is closed and my husband wanted beer so she says she has to serve us at the bar which was fine but proceeds to say we won't be open too much longer.. which my husband questioned cause the sign mentioned they open 3-11 (it was about 6:30/7). So any way as soon as we make it to the bar he orders and immediately she says $7 which was odd because normally when we are our you have a open tab until you are ready for bill. So as other guest come in I'm noticing that money is not being asked nor collected from patrons and they are sitting at other places besides the bar. Why is that I wondered .. it didn't sit well so my husband had his one drink and we left. Didn't know ignorance still existed. Sad to say I hope it's just the one employee who was there Monday 7/10/17 and not the establishments philosophy. read more
