After misgauging ferry times from the Isle of Skye area to Fort William, I returned through Kyle…read morebefore heading east and south to Fort William. Since I was now going to be driving the bulk of the distance (this was Monday 15 July 2019) I looked for a gas station as I was passing through Kyle. The Central Filling Station was easy to spot and tucked up close to the road with a slight dip into and out of the pumping stalls area. It was a busy place, so I made sure not to linger. Fueling up was straightforward, prices good, and station tidy.

This petrol station here is very conveniently located. It's in Broadford - the biggest town on Skye…read morenext to Portree. And it's right by the main road A87. Impossible to miss it. A big Co-Op is also right next to. The station is pretty big. Even though quite busy, it's moving all fast and the wait was short even at peak times. Prices were fair. Pump, pay inside at the counter and on your way you are. Also a good spot to fill up before leaving Syke, since chances are big that you'll pass by this petrol station.

This is a good rural petrol station, located on the main road into Portree. It has a small shop…read moreattached which stocks a extremely good range of foodstuffs for the size of the shop. It has sweets and crisps (seems to stock every falvour imaginable), tinned goods, fresh sandwiches, newspapers and magazines Although it's primarily just a filling station (no garage attached) a lot of people go there for their daily papers too. And the schoolkids go there for lunch! It's very handy for tourists and people living at that side of Portree, as it saves a walk into the village to get the papers. And it's even open on a Sunday - which not everything in this area is.

The fee was only a few pounds, very fair priced. From here it's only a short 5-10min walk to the famous circles, the castle Ewen and all the sights and views. Since motorhomes do not really fit here (some did anyways, causing a bit of a mess), many visitors just do some roadside parking. Cars as well. But if you can fit in here, it would be for the best, because roadside parking on this narrow road just makes the traffic worse.

When visiting Portree this is definitely the best place to park your car. There are other parking…read morespaces throughout the town, but traffic is high and most spaces are taken. Why waste time and nerves when you just can park here? It's a big lot, several spaces for motorhomes as well. Also charging stations. There were plenty of spots still empty when we arrived just before lunchtime. Parking fee is very fair for a hotspot like this. There are no toilets here, but only a 2-3min walk there are some. On Bridge Road. From here it's only a small stroll until you hit the towns center and of course the harbour area. Portree isn't that big, so it won't take long to see the town. But it's a pretty little spot and had some good Fish'n'Chips here.

This time around on Skye we came to Neist Point for a bit of a walk and to enjoy the views. The way…read moreleading here might be a challenge. Depending on your skills, on your temper and on the time visiting. Because it's a one-lane road...for about 10 miles! But it has loads of passing points. And we arrived at around 4pm and met only little traffic. But I could image on a weekend at peak times that it's a bit more challenging. The parking lot is huge, there was plenty of space left when we arrived. If full, many park roadside and just walk the rest of the distance. It's an unpaved lot and unmarked, so it's easy to park. No fees as well. Note: Google Maps showed the last 3 miles as closed when we came here. But it was wide open until the very end. Not sure how accurate these warnings are then...

If you visit the Dunvegan Castle, then this is the place to park your car. There are plenty of…read morespots. Even on a busy day it wasn't a problem to park the car. Some close to the treeline provide some shade. Spots are big enough for SUVs as well. RV parking also available. Toilets on site as well. It's a free spot and just across the entrance to the Castle. Easy, safe and convenient.
