After I found them (go to the top floor of the Les Cygnes mall and follow the path), Reto was there and said he didn't have availability that morning, but told me to come back at 5 and he'd take me out on a tour. I returned at 5 and discovered he was going to take me out alone at no extra charge--great personalized customer service! And because there was a music festival occurring that made travel through Old Town difficult due to crowds, he fashioned his own tour of the lake and gardens. He was a fountain of knowledge about Geneva's history, politics, geography--anything I could throw at him he could answer. He also took a ton of candid photographs during the tour and emailed them to me promptly after the tour. If you've never ridden a Segway (I had), you ride sometimes on the streets, so it was a little scary at first, but Reto led with confidence, so it was fun. From the wineries you visit to the vistas you encounter, everything is phenomenal. The only thing that makes it even better is to enjoy an outing on the lake looking back at the shore in his Riva. Our guide was friendly, funny and incredibly knowledgeable about the area and the wine. We did the Chablais tour in a private luxury van. It was too fantastic. We had to do another so we took the Lavaux tour too. We were immediately impressed by the views of the properties. We were able to see a lot more of the vineyards this way and it was nice to have someone who knew the good restaurants to enjoy the famous filet de perche. The wines were delightful. The Chablais was shockingly fresh. Some had bright, luscious melon and papaya aromas. This wine is all about the texture. They had a great finish that lingers for a bit with good acidic structure. The Lavaux wines were lush with tastes of dried cinnamon, spices, cherries and just a slight herbaceous note. They had nice acidity and were really mouthwatering. All were wonderful on the palette, stretching out across your whole tongue and leaving you wanting more. I wish we could find more Swiss wines in California. I guess we'll just have to come back. We were here for the Tour de France and Basecamp was our go-to for the few days we vacationed in the French countryside. This cute coffee shop is located in Talloires. They are also a wonderful bike shop! The coffee is delightful but it was the scenery and ambiance that just take your breath away. The owners and workers are the nicest. We loved this cafe so much we bought shirts. :)

We used Lyon is Yours for a four-day stay in Lyon prior to a River cruise. Having never been to…read morethis part of France, and since were traveling with my mom, who's 83, we wanted someone who would take good care of us, give us good suggestions and pace the tours with mom in mind. Sebastien Girard, the owner/operator, did much more than that. A piece of our luggage was delayed, and Sebastien made several calls and helped get us the missing bag. He was our transfer from the airport to the hotel, took us on wonderful tours of Peyrouge, the Beaujolais and Annecy, gave us suggestions for our time alone in Lyon, and was the highlight of our time in Lyon. He was punctual, charming, funny, and solicitous of our needs. His large 7 seater van was spotlessly clean and spacious enough for us and out luggage. Sebastien speaks perfect English, and is himself well travelled not only in France, but around the world. When we go back to The Beaujolais region we will not consider using anyone else.

Staff gave a quick introduction and then we were on the way through the cheese making exhibition and process. The audio tour comes with the entrance fee and is very informative. Lots of background and interesting facts. The displays are very well done. The highlight of course is the room with the cheesemaking process. You can overlook it from the top. We were lucky that day because the cheesemakers were just starting the process and we were able to see every step of it that day. They're not doing that all day long here, but we got lucky to catch the moment. You also get three cheese samples. A 6, a 9 and a 12-month old Gruyere. Very nice, I liked the 12 month the most. Has the best flavours in my opinion. There's also a restaurant in the building and an attached shop with cheese, souvenirs and more. It's a really great place to visit. And they keep updating the exhibition. Located right next to the train station it's easy to find and surely a must-do if here for the first time. Surely we'll be back.
