5 Stars - Buen Camino, Gran Hotel!…read more From the moment I stepped into the grand, voluminous lobby after my long journey on El Camino, the Parador de Santiago de Compostela felt like a sanctuary. The welcome was warm, the atmosphere majestic, and every detail of this historic hotel radiated elegance. My room was spacious and serene--just what I needed for rest and reflection. The staff were exceptional, offering impeccable service with kindness and grace. Bravo to everyone at the Parador de los Reis Católicos--what a truly heavenly experience!

We were here for our Honeymoon in 2010 and this time, we walked here at the end of the Camino Ingles. One big change since our last visit was that our Superior room was upgraded to a Junior Suite, and with a view of the Cathedral Plaza! As this is one of the best Paradors in the system, everything her remained first class. Our breakfasts were fantastic, the historical walk arounds within the Parador were informative, the architecture was fascinating, the common areas were comfortable and relaxing, and the outdoor patio restaurant was a fun place to hang out. I had one little incident when a waiter accidently spilled sangria on me. I took it all with good humor, especially since the waiter was highly apologetic. Parador staff also offered to have the affected clothes washed, which were back in our room (with another apology and a few treats) within a couple hours. Being treated like royalty (especially when we're not) made our day. Gayle and I are already talking about another Camino, maybe the Portuguese Coastal Way. If we do, we have no doubt where we'll be staying again at the end of our Pilgrimage.

When they came and poured the gin there was barely anything in my cup . To give you a background, most places charge you 5 euros for a drink like this and this place charges 8.50 which is fine if they served it correctly . I have attached pictures of the amount which is 1/4 of what any other place would give you. I asked the waiter to put a little more and he stated he had to ask his boss. He came back and said he would charge me again. I am disgusted and disappointed at the lack of service and the fact that they think people are not smart enough to see what they are doing . I used to refer people to this place all the time, no more . Just because you have a beautiful atmosphere doesn't mean you can rob people, awful!

Bathrooms have luxurious rain head showers. At check-in, we received a book by the hotel on where to eat, drink and what to see in town. Very thoughtful! The courtyard is fantastic. We loved having our wine, breakfast and afternoon coffee outside among the apple & lemon trees while listening to the tranquil fountain. By far, this is the best hospitality I've ever received when traveling. Javier & Roberto went above and beyond during the booking process. Once there, Javier helped us make dinner reservations, answered all our questions, and provided some laughs. I loved their Tarta de Santiago so much, Javier even ordered one for me upon request. You can tell that the employees here are very passionate about the hotel. The hotel is in walking distance to all the main sites. Discounted parking is nearby. Definitely stay here!

The check in was quick and they inform us the two elevator go to two different flood. There a between floor, and where the breakfast is at. I also love that because of my disability, they actually have a really good shower chair in our room. If you have a chance to stay here, do it, do be scared of potential paranormal in this hotel. The pool is big and there is a hot tub. The breakfast is very delicious and the room is a but unsettling with a big Jesse statue watching you eat. The room we had was sufficient and since we finished Walk the Camino de Santiago, they lost a bottle of wine in our room. I would stay here again as there was so more of the hotel I do not see.

Quick Review To me,…read morehotels while traveling abroad are just places to sleep. I don't need a lot of amenities. I'm spending most of my time exploring and collecting life experiences anyway, so all I really need is a clean/secure room with a bathroom and comfy bed. Bonus points for location, WiFi, and courteous staff. Casa de la Troya not only checked-off those boxes, but went above and beyond with me! -Service: My room came with complimentary breakfast starting at either 0700 or 0800. Either way, I would miss it as my flight to Madrid was at 0640. I wasn't even upset as I could just swing by a bakery the evening before and pick up some awesome Galician bread and some other things for breakfast. But no. The helpful staff at Casa de la Troya were nice enough to pack me a "picnic" to be ready before my taxi arrived at 0400! This box included bread, chocolate croissants, fruit, ham sandwiches, juice, water, and several other items. And if I wanted hot coffee, I just had to notify them 1 hour prior to my scheduled taxi. Excellent service! -Location: It doesn't get much better than this in Santiago! I was not only within a couple blocks of the entrance to the cathedral/square, but also directly above a multitude of restaurants and souvenir shops. I could see everything from my balcony. It was incredibly convenient! -Rooms: It's great when even the basic rooms are nice. Mine was clean, modern, and comfy. There was a tv (why bother though) and a desk along with a balcony overlooking the street where you can watch the other pilgrims as they make their way to the cathedral. The bathroom and was also clean and quite spacious with hot water and fantastic water pressure. ___BONUS MATERIAL___ -Bottles of wine available for sale in the lobby. -Staff speaks excellent English.

I took a chance on this hotel, having walked past it every day on my way home and it turned out to be a great little find. The hotel itself is in a lovely old building which either overlooks the market (the Mercado de Abastos) or the Belvís Park and is furnished according to its antique interior. The room itself was spacious, clean and cool and very well furnished, with the ever prerequisite free smellies and afforded a lovely view of a lush green park. It was one of the rooms which opened onto a courtyard shared by other guests in which there was a little terrace garden, perfect for relaxing. The staff here were great and spoke English and the price, which was around £100 for 2 nights in a double room, was great and extremely reasonable given the quality.
