I decided to give Pure Hair Design a try, by stopping at their business location after finishing my work to get a haircut. I was given an appointment for the next day, which greatly impressed and pleased me. Only an hour before my expected appointment, a female employee of Pure Hair Design phoned me to outright cancel my haircut. When I asked why their female employee simply stated, "You should never have been given an appointment!" I politely asked, "You have many hair stylists there, can't one of them fit me in between appointments to cut my hair?" The female said, "The earliest I can book an appointment is two weeks from now. If you can't wait this long go to another salon. I don't care if we lose a customer over this situation!" I have never felt this let down and/or deflated, by a beauty salon, until my hair appointment was cancelled on such short notice. While I will never know exactly what occurred, possibly my appointment was arbitrarily cancelled and given to one of their regular customers. This would have been my first haircut at Pure Hair Design. I will never go there again. Given my upsetting experience; I can't recommend Pure Hair Design to anyone. I would have given 0 stars, but this isn't possible when leaving a review.

The inside is decorated nicely and I love the layout of the salon itself. When you are getting colour added to your hair, you sit at a glass table in the centre of the salon and there are several magazines laid out to choose from in case you're interested. They even bring you your choice of latte, coffee or tea while you wait for the colour to set. I love that they add toner to my hair unlike many salons I've been to where they skip the toner. As someone who is EXTREMELY picky about how my hair looks, I've never once been disappointed with the final product after I go here. Shannon does a fabulous job cutting my hair and she even styles it to give it a little extra volume. If you're not sure exactly what sort of cut or colour you're looking for, the staff are great at figuring out what sorts of styles will work for your face. They will tell you if they feel that something is ill-suited which is very important if you are wavering between styles. It isn't significantly more expensive than many other salons, and the price is well worth the amazing service you receive here. I will not go anywhere else and everyone I know goes here too. I was that girl in high school with 4 or 5 different kinds of shampoo, body wash and bubble bath in the shower. I've managed to take it down a notch since then, but I still get a bit giddy when I wind up in the vicinity of a Trade Secrets, and this one might be my favourite. Instead of being tucked into a mall like most of their locations, this one has it's own storefront. It's got plenty of room to sashay up and down the aisles admiring bulk shampoo (Bed Head! 30$!), OPI nail polish and hair appliances. This is always the first place I stop when I need to make a new beauty investment like a quality flat iron or if I'm looking for a salon-exclusive hair product (ha! salon exclusive no more!). I've had some hair stylists tell me that the products sold here aren't the same mixtures that the salons sell, but I don't really believe it. I mean, isn't that fraud of some sort? I've always found the products I buy here are exactly the same quality and they are much, much cheaper. This place also has a waxing station should those pesky caterpillars get out of control. I had the service done once here and it was decent. A little more plucking than normal, but they did get rid of everything eventually. I know they do threading as well, but I'm pretty sure the staff aren't in every day, so it's probably a good idea to call ahead. If you're a beauty junkie or just looking to try a new product, check this location out. The staff are sweet as pie and super helpful. Note - parking is not on the main street (where you get into Spuds and Pizza Pizza), but at the back where you enter Payless.

However I went in to get my lashes tinted here since it was only $20 and the location was convenient but let me tel you why I won't be going back. First of all, the lady in the back who does tinting had put the tint all over my eyes so I looked like a raccoon after. Good thing I didn't have any plans after having the tint. Also she put it on and pretty much forgot about me until she finished with all of her other clients so my eyes burnt from the amount of time she left the tint on. Finally and most surprisingly, she literally says "next time pay in cash not credit so you can tip me" since you can't give tips on the credit machine. Honestly I was shocked. Some people tip, and some people are working minimum wage and have university expenses to tend to.

The place is clean and welcoming. The staff are very nice. Though I'll never again accept to have my hair done by other than Shokhan known by Sho now. Her skill is amazing. You can tell by the way she holds her brush. As for dying my hair, she immediatly new what colour I should go for. My recent visit to the salon was last week when I had my hairlight done. Foot massage (2/5) I'm basing this on deep foot massages I have had in the past. The deeper the better. I'd give their approach to a foot massage a 5 if you're just expecting light application of massive amounts of fragrant creams and ever so gentle, light rubbing in a pleasant setting. I sat beside a good friend and we chatted while she had a pedi and the staff allowed me to stay longer because her procedure was longer and the room wasn't needed. I felt that was kind. Where things went off the rails and why my review plummets was due to the communication I received from this place after my review. I had expressed 2 levels of disappointment with their foot massage . First is wasn't 'deep' despite the description of 'deep rhythmic massage' on their website and second because the esthetician maintained a very light pressure after I twice told her should could go much deeper. The 'deep, rhythmic massage' never happened. They sent me an email asking me to change the review, blaming my disappointment on my misinterpretation of 'deep rhythmic foot massage' and explaining that of course it meant was 'deeply relaxing'. They said a lot of other stuff, but the result is that I feel gaslit and feel they were trying to shame me for giving an honest review. They have now updated the website to eliminate the wording of 'deep rhythmic' from their foot massage description. I have a screenshot of that earlier version. So, I have in fact changed my review from a 3 to a one and would give them a zero for customer service if I could. No customer should be made to feel this way.
