Do NOT go with this company. Update from my last review 3 months ago: he was "shocked" at how poorly done everything was and told me he would come out and fix everything in one day. Guess what? Complete Nightmare of An Experience! We hired Matt Matusek from Expanded Living Contracting LLC in October of 2020 to renovate our hallway bathroom, replace the tile floor of our upstairs shower and assist with a few other home improvements. Little did we know at that time what a horrific experience we were in store for and what a terrible mistake hiring this company would be. What we were promised to be a few week renovation turned into a 6 month incomplete nightmare filled with damages and tons of unnecessary stress and displacement. Matt assured us he was skilled in installing tile. It became clear quickly that was not the case. We selected a white tile to be installed in a beautiful herringbone pattern in the shower and a patterned tile to be installed on the floor and wall of our hallway bathroom. A variety of glaringly obvious, inconsistent grout thicknesses were used to install all if the tile. The herringbone pattern was extremely sloppy. There was nothing professional about the install, especially the fact that is was never completed. Broken and chipped tiles were installed and the shower grout was so sloppy and unfinished that the tiles easily fell right off the wall when touched. We decided to move the location of our tub and Matt told us that a standard size tub would not fit in the new location. Come to find out after the fact, when having the bathroom repaired from all the mistakes Expanded Living Contracts, LLC made that there was room to fit a standard size tub and we were convinced to unnecessarily build out a wall and purchase a tub we did not want or need. The tub Matt installed was destroyed during his terrible shower tile install as he dropped the tiles in the unprotected tub and scratched it all up. Toilet was installed 15" away from the wall behind it leaving a large, awkward gap. A new vanity was installed which we had to go purchase on our own because the one we purchased through Matt came in painted the wrong color and was unable to be corrected. When he and his plumber installed the new vanity they were sloppy with the grout and plumbing material they used and stained the vanity shelves and left them that way without cleaning them up. In fact many days we had to mop and clean up our home after Matt and his crew were finished working. Great care was not taken in protecting our home while working with them. We were initially told the hallway bathroom reno would take approximately 2 weeks. 6 months later it was left still not finished and full of unresolved issues yet Matt still demanded he receive his final payment without even completing the work. And as if all of that insanity wasn't stressful enough we had another major issue occur from the poor repair job Matt did on our upstairs shower pan. He never installed the proper banding on the shower pan which resulted in water leaking from the shower down through the ceiling into our living room. The ceiling had to be cut out and the entire shower had to then be addressed and repaired by a true professional. This entire disappointing experience was nothing short of a nightmare. We lost a ton of money, time and peace by hiring this incompitent company. We are sharing this information in an effort to prevent anyone else from experiencing the same. Last August, we were given a referral for this company to rebuild our deck as part of a bigger landscaping job. While the cost of the deck work seemed high, we had trouble finding someone else to give us a bid. The original referral came from the landscaping company who referred them. This landscaping designer has an excellent reputation so we ended up hiring Matt M..... . He demolished our deck last October and said we should have a deck before Thanksgiving. We did have some issues with our township in getting approval for the replacement deck and also made some design changes due to issues with the township. During this process we found out that he was not truthful about handing in the required paperwork, according to a trusted friend that works for the township. This probably caused a 1-2 month delay. We were finally issued the permit. He said the deck would be finished in 2 weeks from the permit. It has now been 8 months since the original demo and the deck is not finished. He has been given multiple chances to finish the work. We found out, from a relative who both works in construction and is a a carpenter, that he put no blocking under the end boards of the decking. This is very important with trex decking as it is partly plastic and more bendy when it gets warm. They had to pull up all of the deck and put in the blocking. They also installed the decking so that it was not flush to the elevated portion of our deck and tried multiple hacks to make it work but it still looked bad. This was not a particularly complicated deck plan. He charged us, roughly, $86,000 for shoddy work which still has not been completed. One of the last things he had to complete was a doorway, for access to our propane tanks under the deck. He did not order enough lattice to cover the door. He came out this week and put up the wrong type of lattice. When he put in the deck railings, he left a hole in the wall of our house and a gap you could put your leg through with an 8 food drop to our driveway. I could go on but this yelp is already quite long! Bottom line, stay away from this contractor. He talks a good game but does not deliver on any of his promises. He would come out to house for one day every 1-2 weeks to actually work. He lied to us over and over again. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. We have ended up having to purchase supplies to finish the final work ourselves. It has been almost 8 months of hell. read more

he took a deposit and told me it was refundable and would not give it back I had to take him to court and court found me in favor and I still had to get the constable to go out to get my money he still won't pay me . The constable finally got me my money, and through the experience found out my caregiver had him do work for her and the steps that he built came apart right away and he would not honor his job read more

Nothing but problems from the very beginning with Matt Matusek at Expanded Living. Projects were supposed to take 7 days and 4 months later still not finished. Shoddy work with many mistakes. Would never show up for days after saying he would. On the rare occasions that he did show up to work he would stay for maybe an hour or two at most. We eventually had to fire him and now we're out of thousands of our hard earned money and need to fix his errors ourselves. We have since found out that he has many lawsuits against him and changes his company name a lot. Wish we knew this from the beginning. read more

Do not use this Contractor. Your initial estimate will balloon but you will be too far in to get out. Workmanship/craft is non-existent.
