My group and I loved the variety of baked goods and coffee here! We even came back a 2nd time during our short stay in town after deciding it was our favorite of all the coffee shops we tried. It was definitely worth it to order ahead online due to how busy it can get in the morning. Could not recommend that enough. I just stumbled upon this place by accident and it was such a lovely surprise. It's tucked away by giant industrial buildings but it is truly a diamond in the rough. I got the Kouign-Amann by recommendation, not knowing what to expect and it was absolutely delicious! The staff was also very nice and welcoming. This is my go to spot when I'm in Tempe now. Holy cow, the flavors and combinations are perfect. I had a goat cheese and fig pastry. It was literal perfection. I also got a lavender latte, which is just a classic option for me, and it was spectacular. The coffee is smooth and not overheated. Plan to take it to go, it's very small. Amazing local gem! This was my first time to this smallish establishment along with my wife daughter and grandson. To start off, the service was wonderful. We were greeted with a smile and subsequently put in our orders. I had the medium roast coffee which was phenomenal. My wife had the hibiscus iced tea which was full bodied. My wife and I both had the ham and Gruyère croissant while my daughter chose the breakfast sandwich. My grandson opted for the cinnamon roll. All were simply extraordinary. Glad I stopped here after picking up a friend at the airport. Other reviews said it was THE #1 BEST pastry shop in Tempe. I & my friend agree! Please NOTE: It's in an industrial are and there was no sign on the outside, except on the front door. There's no seats inside but there are 2 tables a few chairs outsiders. They do say they'll be expanding. BUT don't let that stop you from coming here. Best croissants I've had since moving to AZ! TLDR; Solid baked goods I didn't get a chance to try their coffee because I was already running a bit late, but I enjoyed some of their pastries. The place itself is quite small, but they manage to make it feel comfy. Their croissants are very buttery and soft, and the lady at the counter warmed them up for us. The espresso one has a pleasant fragrance and a lovely glaze with a soft dough and pleasantly creamy filling. The sweetness level was ideal for me as someone who doesn't love sweet things, but I do wish there was some more espresso flavor. The Ham and Cheese croissant was also quite good as the buttery croissant paired well with the generously given ham and melty cheese. I didn't enjoy the berry coffeecake as much as their croissants. The flavor was okay and the berries were a nice addition, but I wish there were more of a textural difference in the cake and the crumble topping. In addition, the cake itself had a pretty meh texture. I think a lot of my issues with it could have been fixed if I had warmed it up in the oven. The pear gorgonzola tart was also pretty solid. The addition of red onion helped cut through the buttery dough, while the pear and gorgonzola paired nicely as well. All in all, it was a pretty successful find. read more

I will start off by saying this is just for to go orders and the parking can get a bit hinky. I do love their drink options. My go to is espresso based and their drinks in my opinion are strong but still well balanced on the flavor. Outside of matcha (not a fan) I am sure I have tried all their specials for drinks and they are so yummy. The pastries are amazing, haven't tried one that I did not like. Some maybe different than what you get from the typical commercial place, but I appreciate their take on them. In my opinion these are also priced very well for the quality and size of the product. This also means they will sell out the later it is in the day. It is typically a one man crew at anybgiven time, so I do suggest pickup. That being said, even when they are slammed the staff I have encountered have always been welcoming and helpful. I am glad I discovered this little place and decided to give them a g! I rave about them to everyone I know and will keep coming back as my I now have my family hooked. read more

I haven't come across a bakery and coffee (walk-in) place that I've liked this much in years. The quality of their baked goods (good lord, those croissants) is out of this world and as good as anything I've had in Europe. It is a counter inside to order and two tables outside. As others have mentioned, amidst a lot of office/warehouse buildings and it has its own parking but you could easily bike here if you live near ASU - only open on weekdays but so worth a visit. I haven't had pastries this good since Essence Bakery closed up shop a few years ago. One of the co-owners is Brandy and she has worked the front counter both times I've been there, so polite and friendly. If you are a foodie, this is so a place to go check out. read more

When you really want to just break the chain of fast food breakfast sandwiches and you don't want to do the brunch thing cos it's a workweek, the Experiment, located improbably in a Tempe industrial park, is just the thing. Here at this impossibly small cafe, with no seating inside, and a cafe table out front, they turn out viennoiseries like a delicious ham and gruyère croissant, a pear and gorgonzola one, eyerollingly good kouign amann, and there are even light lunches available between 11AM and 130PM. They have the most amazing pastries! It was an online foodcritic's review of the Kouign-Amann that triggered my first visit. OMG, so glad I went and got my first ever KA - it so utterly delicious! First of all, I'd never heard of a Kouign-Amann and had no idea what it would really taste like. The critic called it a sort of croissant with a lacquered crust. It is kinda that - but 10 times better than it sounds. Service is quick and efficient while still being very friendly. The space is quite small with no inside seating. There are a couple of high tops outside, and that's it. It is also located in an industrial park that you'll need a GPS to find. This is not a neighborhood drop in spot; you gotta be deliberately going there. Having said all this, the drive is absolutely worth it! The pear & Gorgonzola breakfast pastry is divine as well.
